InactiveOK, thank you.
Does “automatic” work the same as on the fvp’s, that is to say, only when initiated will it do a full search?
Because Clem clearly believes that his Aura is going to be operating autonomously (possibly overnight) and searching for and potentially losing/duplicating channels.

Not sure My transmitter hasn’t changed in months (perhaps no changes since DSO) . It’s a relay so very few changes. It does not have the temporary COM HD muxes.
I can’t get Sutton Coldfield due to a wood with high trees a few yards from my Northern border. Lark Stoke is weaker but due south with line of sight so a log36 in the loft gets a good signal.

InactiveI think people are mixing up two different meanings of automatic tuning:
1) When asking the box to scan across all MUXes and tune in those for the nearest / strongest / preferred transmitter. This is an occasional event when first setting up the box and when there has been a major change with the transmitter changing the MUX frequencies it uses.
2) When the box does an overnight automatic check for channels added, removed or which have changed MUX.
(there is a third case when the only changes are to a channel name and LCN and which do not need any retuning to be done to continue to view them – rebranding *is* just for Christmas and can be safely ignored)

Exactly my point.
The fvp’s use option 1.
Clems tv’s use option 2.
What does the Aura do?

ParticipantIf anyone wants to check a 5.1 recording (set box to surround). There is a 10 episode series of Father Brown starting today on BBC1-HD at 13:45. All Father Brown episodes have DD 5.1 audio.

No way of telling until the transmitter you use actually changes. That will generally only be main power ones involved in clearing the high frequency mux for comms use.

Does the Aura not offer “smart” option when retuning?
Not with the current latest firmware. Automatic or Manual
Thank heavens for that. The Smart tune option on the FVP-5000T is not well implemented and it causes endless problems. The idea is sound in principle as demonstrated by the capability of the similar functionality in the custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2.

InactiveCould you test by deliberately deleting a couple of channels from each mux and leaving the box overnight?

There is currently No option to delete channels on the aura.

ParticipantJust Set Traces BBC1-HD 21:00 today as a series. The aura correctly schedules this for today and tomorrow and 7 days time. Epg is flagged for all 3 episodes with the epg reach to Monday next week.

It gets more appealing every day

There is an edit channels option but it has no delete. You can though skip channels which I guess means they will not appear in the epg. The other option is lock. Not played with either option.

InactiveAnother observation, whilst looking at the manual: where’s the option to update firmware via USB, or to control when the box does firmware updates? I like to control when new firmware is installed, waiting a bit before updating. From what I can make out the box handles updates without any option for the end user to exercise control. Or am I missing something obvious here?

If it is like other recent Humax boxes then there will be no option to control updates if the box is connected to the Internet other than disconnecting it from the Internet which would instantly remove a significant chunk of functionality.

InactiveIs the FreeviewPlay functionality running inside the Android TV software structure (effectively as an app), or is Android TV running ontop of the boxes foundational operating system?
If it is all Android based, there are numerous apps available that can be installed that, when run, will reveal a lot of the system settings pages that are currently hidden by Humax because they don’t want users tinkering.
Normal Android has options to turn on/off automatic software/firmware updates, perhaps this can be achieved by installing one of the apps to open up the settings menus?
