@Flutty This sounds precisely the same problem I have plus I have no sound on internet content so basically I have a £250 brick.
Why aren’t you sending it back then? Have you contacted Humax?
Yes I did contact Humax support. They said it was a hardware problem and to send it back.
I was about to send it back when it briefly started working. Will have to wait until after the Xmas holiday now obviously.

Additionally the old BT/Humax YouView box gives perfect live picture and that is after the Aura in the coaxial feed chain. Unfortunately the YouView box has lost its settings page so I cant retune it etc for channel changes. The Aura Live TV button shows images of each channel but if you click on those the screen is just blank. Yes it will stream the channels but that dosnt help recording.
How has your YouView box lost its settings page? Have you tried pressing the YouView button on your remote, then pressing the up navigation button, this should now have highlighted the gearwheel icon near the top right of your screen. This takes you to your settings page.

Yes but it would be handy to be able to control the volume on the TV from one control which is pretty much how all previous humax boxes work
Only when viewing SD content. I take it you are going back to a pvr not Freeview-HD capable. Like say a 8000T.
Freeview-HD on HD channels uses a newer AAC audio codec that means you cannot control the volume at source. It only works if you only use SD channels, which kind of makes it a waste of time buying a HD capable unit.
You can set a newer box to recode aac to the same audio used on SD channels which is the best option if you do not have the capability to use 5.1 surround sound.
This will make it work just like the older boxes.
Just change the audio out option on a Aura from surround to stereo.
I don’t understand. My last PVR was a Humax Youview PVR box (not BT or TalkTalk). It had HD channels. I was able to switch the remote control between TV and PVR box so when I pressed the TV button on the remote control the volume controls turned up and down the volume on the TV. The Aura remote doesn’t have a TV button, just tv standby and AV select which means that the volume buttons only turn up and down the volume on the Aura box. I would prefer to leave the Aura box at 100% volume and have the volumn buttons affect the volume on my TV instead.
Yes, there should be three options. Control TV volume, control reciever volume and control Humax box volume. This is implemented on Google Chromecast TV so no reason why it couldn’t be coded to aura from Android TV. They just need to add the options.

If you look at the aura manual there are codes for TV’s that should allow the AV button to allow the aura remote to control basic TV functions like control the volume and select different HDMI input sockets.

You must have HDMI CEC turned on, as my small power button only works my TV.
Page 7 of the user guide contains the following,
“Universal Remote Control
Your remote control is compatible with many popular TV’s. If you have a HDMI CEC enabled TV, you can control the volume of your TV universally at the same time.”
Have you tried this to see if it works? I haven’t, as I can’t see why anyone would want to do this. I prefer the way that the volume control works the box volume output. I have a volume control for my TV on its own remote control, and this works well for me.

How does the Aura handle channel/mux update. It’s not clear to me after reading the user guide.
On my current Panasonic PVR and also my LG and Panasonic TVs, I have auto-channel update (or its equivalent) disabled. The relevant facility, if enabled, must do some sort of auto-tune during the early hours of the morning. Generally, it doesn’t pose a problem, but if there’s any engineering works scheduled overnight, which results in a temporary loss of channels/muxes, when the device auto-tunes it then stores a reduced set of channels. My LG TV is the worst for this — I’ve lost count of the number of times I found that the TV only had details for a few channels/muxes. By disabling the facility, the issue goes away.
I looked at the Aura’s user guide and I couldn’t see any option to disable automatic channel updates, so I wanted to understand how the box would handle situations where say, for example, engineering works on my local transmitter temporarily took out several muxes which might otherwise be there normally, and the device then auto-tuned.
The Manhattan T3R has an elegant solution, and their support team sent me an MP4 showing how it’s handled. It’s too big at ~3MB to upload, but I can email it to anyone interested. In essence, the T3R prompts the user to re-tune, but that can be ignored. It will continue to prompt until a re-tune is completed, and puts a flag on the settings menu to signify that a re-tune, be it smart or full, is required. It’s an elegant solution to my mind. Most re-tunes are for ‘noise’ channels. As I only ever tend to record the HD channels, which seldom move, I’m unlikely to miss anything if I didn’t re-tune. My Panasonic kit nags with the auto-tune option enabled. Ideally, I don’t want to be nagged at all.
I have to say that at face value, the Manhattan box does look like a good foil for the Aura. Sure, it only has two tuners and a less extensive apps. selection, but the support offered seems to be first class compared to Humax. Take a look at the T3R’s support page to get an idea. I’m torn between the two. The support looks better from Manhattan, and with the latest firmware the box looks very stable. The Aura has the third tuner, of course, but the continued absence of the Netflix app. and non-resolution of the NowTV app. working are issues for me. I can get those services from elsewhere, I know, but the Aura’s [potential] appeal is a one-stop shop for both streaming and linear TV recording. But it’s not there yet, and it still seems a bit flaky, if the 50-odd pages of posts here are anything to go by.

Well I must be in the minority I bought this box 4 weeks ago plugged it all up ,set up harmony remote to pair
Every button works fine,volume works great with sound bar have even recorded 4 things on Xmas day at once no problem
I am really pleased with it,the big disappointment I have is still no app

I have been trying to get my LG remote work with the aura but no success so far
I switched the box to stereo. Didn’t make any difference. Remote still only controls the aura box

Yep. Aura doesn’t have CEC support yet so it’s like a pre 2010 device with remotes. Hopefully they fix it. Once they do your remote will work with Aura. It’s not just a you problem.
I have one remote that controls 4 devices, but the Aura it does not because of CEC.
