Broadcom chipset in this right? Broadcom provide reference ports to their OEMs so this should not be crazy hard for Humax!

I still believe there is a hardware issue with this box which is impossible to fix without an (expensive) redesign and product recall.

So please tell us specifically which problems you think are hardware related? My personal view is that the majority of issues I experience are software related.

I believe a lot of issues are hardware related as issues (e.g. oversensitive tuners) cannot seem to be fixed via software or firmware updates..,. seemingly related to Humax’s silence and lack of updates. That’s my opinion!

My experience suggests the tuners are less sensitive than previous models and if the signal strength is too high it can be reduced by using an attenuator.

seemingly related to Humax’s silence and lack of updates.

My opinion is that Humax have lost interest in the PVR market and hence halted the software development too early in an attempt to save money.

Still no sign of any updates, almost two and a half years after the last one. Damn box is buggy as hell but Humax think there is no need to update (their words, last time I contacted support in the summer).

I’ll never be buying a Humax again, the only reason I’ve persisted with it is because our TV doesn’t have freeview and I’m loathe to have a seperate freeview box.

One thing that really bugs me is that it takes a good minute or so to wake up every time we go to use it, even though we never use the power button to turn it off/put it to sleep.

My Nvidia Shield TV (from 2015) wakes in seconds and is way more responsive on all apps, I’m finding I keep reverting to that as I’m getting fed up with the Aura.

I wouldn’t recommend this box to anyone. 🙄

It sounds as though it might be going into deep standby. Try checking in Settings> Freeview Play Preferences> Deep standby is set to Never.

Thanks Martin, I just checked and it was already set to Deep Standby never. Saw your comment and thought that might be it, disappointed it was already set! Oh well, thanks anyway!

I have mine set to come out of deep standby at 3PM and going back into deep standby at 11:30PM, that way it is always ready for my evening viewing and comes on within seconds.

Ironic isn’t it that they still sell this box and their website says they’ll support it for 7 years until Nov 2027 :?

What Hi-Fi listed it as the best PVR in its 2024 awards 😯

“The Humax Aura continues its run as the best PVR money can buy”

    https://www.whathifi.com/awards/best-set-top-boxes-2024

    What a joke.

Based on this experience if I ever end up with an EV I certainly WON’T be using a Humax charger to charge it

Yeah, I keep seeing that in What Hi-Fi, really irritating to see them still rate it so highly.

Another year, still no updates. I’m finding mine struggles more with playback of some files in Plex and Emby, but switching to my original Shield TV and they play back with no issues (and Nvidia are still releasing updates for that).

I’ll certainly not be buying Humax again.

The problem is they are right, it currently is the best PVR. At the time of testing it could also have been given the WORST PVR award as it was the only one available, for Freeview.

Next year maybe a little more interesting if the Manhatton, which is currently (IMO) in beta testing in the wild, sorts out the issues it currently has and they don’t put too much importance on it only having two tuners.

Personally the two tuners is a deal breaker for me, the wife ran out of tuners the other day on the Aura and wasn’t happy so no chance she would live with two.

We have other things for streaming and only use the Aura as a PVR so its stable and we have learned to live with its issues that will never be fixed.

If it broke tomorrow would I buy another? Sadly yes but only as I have no other choice.
