InactiveI have been running my HDR 1000S/500g on a connection to my router through two TP link connectors and the house main electric circuit. I want to connect it now to a good WiFi system I have in the house and wondered if it is possible and how to do it as there is no reference to WiFi in the handbook.

ParticipantHopefully member repassac will respond shortly.
Basically you need to turn off your router DHCP server and disconnect the wired connection . This should give you the manual setup options to enter the logon parmameters required.

InactiveThe 1000S does not have built-in Wifi capability so I’m not sure how that will work.

InactiveA network access point might also work but little advantage over the current connection. A suitable dongle would be an alterative subject to match with the supported chipset. (Which I do not recall)

InactiveYou can get the appropriate dongle from Amazon for about £12.

InactiveCan DaveE or anyone link to the ‘appropriate dongle please?
It is a good idea to test your WiFi reception at the Humax location with a phone app to ensure reasonable reception.

InactiveThat’s where I plugged mine in, sorry couldn’t upload more details, the dongle worked fine with my 1000hdr.

InactiveGreat success, have managed to convert my HDR 1000s to WiFi quite easily and operation is greatly improved. Purchased the dongle from Amazon for £11-70 it arrived today .Removed cable connection.Switched Humax on. Plugged dongle into USB socket on front of unit behind plastic cover on right of Humax. Tv screen then, after a short delay, displayed all the WiFi signals available. Selected one I wished to use and input password, Signal immediately received and a great improvement on previous cable signal. All this in spite of not a mention of this facility in the original handbook and with the encouragement and assistance of some Humax Forum members, Thank you.

InactiveI have never heard of ‘a great improvement’ of a WiFi connection over a cable connection. There must of have been something wrong with the cable connection.

It wasn’t a hardwired cable connection; the first post in the thread says it was using Homeplugs which will usually work well in a domestic environment but not always.

InactiveI’ve had my HDR 1000s connected to my BT wifi for several years using a Humax 150N dongle. It’s been ok until the last few months when I’m getting a lot of buffering on iplayer/ITV Hub or when a programme has been paused for a while. When watching live TV, a screen message saying the dongle has been removed followed shortly by a further message saying it’s been reconnected also appears regularly. These messages don’t affect the programme on the screen.
I’ve tried a factory reset of the box which made no difference. I’ve now removed the dongle and am using an ethernet cable to connect to the router (not popular with wifey) to see how that works. The router is about 10m away from the box with one block wall in between.
If the problem is fixed I guess I need new dongle but am a little confused by the range on offer and would appreciate any advice – many thanks – John

You do need to be careful about choice of dongle as the Humax boxes usually support only one or two chipsets. This looks to me to be a suitable dongle https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Compatible-Wireless-HDR-1000S-HDR-FOX-HB-1000S/dp/B01B4YQQK8/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?
