InactiveI currently own a Humax Foxsat HDR. I use an app called Roomie for control of all my devices. The Foxsat has the ability for IP control via the custom firmware.
Is it possible for direct IP control of the 1100s? I understand there is an app for setting recordings and also for control. This would suggest that IP control is possible but has anyone successfully controlled their unit with IP commands?
Thanks for any replies.

InactiveWhy not just use the app?

InactiveA network monitor can provide the information you need.
I suspect it involves using the units ID code and is much more complicated than that provided by the custom firmware.

The point is to use one app rather than switch back and forth. Having direct IP control means I can integrate the Humax into the Roomie app and not have to faff about with another app.
I’m not sure I’ll be able to discover the IP control protocol myself. However it does look like it’s possible.

InactiveSort of a homegrown version of this kind of gadget?

Sounds interesting. I wonder if certain commands – search/record commands for instance – may turn out to be locked down by Freesat.

InactiveAnother option: https://www.anymote.io/
It should not be difficult to see exactly what the freesat app does, install it, then install the Microsoft Message Analyzer (free)
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44226
then just watch the traffic between the unit and phone ip’s

InactiveThanks for the replies. Both those offerings do similar to Roomie but Roomie has been around for a long time, is well established and has integration with many devices already. You can use IR control with Roomie but it requires a Globalcache add on. I’ve managed to source most of my devices with direct IP control for ease of integration and control.
I’ll have a look at the MS Message analyser when I get the new box and see if it’s obvious which controls are being sent.
With regards to commands being locked down, I would very much doubt this as all commands work with the Foxsat. Basically any command that will work via IR should work via IP as well. Discovering all the commands might be a challenge though.

InactiveThe Foxsat does not actually have any form IP control of its own. The custom firmware receives the commands and interacts with the IR hardware.

InactiveYes sorry I didn’t make that very clear. Yes it’s the custom firmware which enables a lot of functionality on the Foxsat. However I’m hoping that as the 1100S has an app it must have IP control between that app and the unit but it’s not certain. Although some devices are network equipped it doesn’t necessarily translate into direct IP control.

InactiveI don’t see how it could possibly work otherwise.
When you play with the Message Analyzer make sure you limit the traffic display to the two devices and it should be easy to see exactly what it is up to.

InactiveThanks for the advice. Will see what I can come up with.

InactiveOK I received my new Humax HDR-1000S and have had a play with Wireshark on my MAC. I haven’t dug out my old PC to run the MS Message Analyzer.
I started the Freesat app on my iPhone and then filtered only that in Wireshark. Have attached what I think is the relevant capture. Not really sure if this is any use at present but it appears to send the http request over the WAN interface rather than using the LAN. The IP address of the Humax is 192.168.1.13.
Any pointers on what to try next?

InactiveI would look at the messages entering on the LAN and not just WiFi. Also I would look first at what happens after the app startup when basic remote keys are pressed which is likely to be simpler. Then move on to startup.
239.255.255.250:1900 is a multicast address see https://wiki.wireshark.org/SSDP it is trying to establish if a freetime PVR is present in the network.
Have you paired the HDR-1000S to enable remote record or not (so just a RC).

InactiveThanks for the reply.
Yes the box is paired for remote record.
I had another look at traffic over the LAN as well as wifi. I’ve managed to identify that the Humax is controlled by the app working solely over the WAN and it sends no traffic on the LAN. I confirmed this by disconnecting the internet connection to the router but leaving the LAN active. The app immediately loses connection and you cannot control the Humax by selecting a channel via the app. It appears the control protocol is routed over the WAN via IP 239.255.255.250 on port 1900. If either the box or the app doesn’t have an active internet connection then control fails. The app also won’t open if there’s no internet connection.
However one twist is that if the app is already open and you disconnect the internet then you can control the box by touching the TV icon at the top of the app and swiping up and down to change channel. This must be using the LAN but I haven’t investigated this further as yet. It seems the box control is mostly via the WAN but certain commands do get sent over the LAN if an internet connection becomes unavailable.
I’m a complete novice at this, which I’m sure is obvious!, but I’ll keep investigating.

InactiveWith the internet disconnected here's the capture when sending a change channel signal from the app.
