InactiveWhat’s a CI slot, will I use it?

I beg your pardon but my 1000S does indeed have a CI slot. It’s on the right of the box?

Afaik it’s just a hole, the case will be used for different models.
I can’t imagine what you would use it for.
I know that the slot on a Foxsat-hdr works. In the early days a dragon cam worked with a sky smart card, though you had to periodically refresh in a working sky box.
The Foxsat-hdr can be used with a motorised dish (no idea if you can use a hdr1000S, but I doubt it).

ParticipantConditional interface slot, it’s designed to hold a cam (conditional access module) this enables paid for encrypted service viewing using a smart card. A Sky box has a built in cam purely designed for a Sky smart card.
Generic free to air advanced boxes have a CI slot you can use a cam in for paid for services from satellites you have access to. Usually via a motorised dish.
Lots more info here

InactiveThanks Graham I thought I was going mad.
The interface is present inside, whether it's active in any shape or form is beyond me but I seem to remember something about possible usage for payTV in the early sales reviews but -anyway I'm waffling

You’re right. Freesat at one time considered offering Sky Sports.

I guess in the unlikely event it ever gets a future use it will require a specific cam and firmware support. Netflix may be (though that seems unlikely for IP paid for content)?
The freeview+ boxes afaik do have a use for paid content (not that I have ever used it).

Netflix has its own subscription setup – similar to Curzon. No CI required. And I believe the pay channels in the Freeview EPG also operate by subscription. VuTV definitely does.

InactiveWell so much for looking at the 1000S, the few outlets that have it are asking silly money, Amazon want £270 for the 500GB yet only £249 for the 1TB!! Might have to look at another brand.

If you want Freesat+ freetime and the 4 main free VOD services. The only current choice for a proper pvr is the Humax boxes.

InactiveA brief review from Pocket-lint, plus some photos including the remote.

InactiveWell I’ve had my white 1100S for the best part of a week now and am “over the moon” with it. PQ is superb, and it really is a doddle to navigate. Boot up time is not too bad and it is a big step up from my old FoxSat box..
The only “problem” I have encountered so far is when I go to the “help and info” tab on the home screen, the box kinda freezes and won’t accept any inputs from the remote.
If I switch it off and back on again this cures it.
I emailed Humax support about the issue and have been advised to carry out a reset to factory defaults to see if this cures it.
If not, they will look into it further for me.
The installed software is UKSFAA 2.02.34 and a quick check for updates shows that I am running the latest version.
Have got a local guy coming out this morning to replace my ageing dish and wiring as they are both past their sell by date.
But as I say, so far I’m well impressed and even my wife can use it!

Have you seen this happen with “On Demand” or “Showcase” options? Did you do the Factory Reset as per Humax?

InactiveI note rather disappointingly the new box is still only a DNLA client – not a SERVER, or am I wrong?
Given the Freeview version 2000T can act as client and server I am not sure why the Sat version still has the omission.
