InactiveDamian… Yes it’s a freesat box with the main function being to watch and record freesat TV but has also been sold to us with extra functions like On Demand TV which I expect to work properly.
My smartphone has a camera built into it but it’s main function is to make and receive phone calls, if the camera stopped working then I would be pretty annoyed because it was sold to me with the knowledge that it has a quality 8mp camera function.
If I wanted a freesat box that just showed freesat TV then I would have purchased a cheap £50 box. I wanted a high end freesat box with lots of extras like HD capability, USB media capability and on demand TV including YouTube as advertised on the side of the box and was willing to pay £280 for the privilege.

InactiveHi tonegee,
I appreciate the frustration; however humax haven’t changed anything, youtube has.
With your smartphone, the camera hasn’t stopped working, it isn’t broken, but if what you’re pointing at has changed then there’s a problem and it’s not a problem with the smartphone it’s what is seen in the viewfinder.
youtube have changed their software and are arrogant enough to expect everybody else to fall into place, just like microsoft wouldn’t touch java and then later when they did they wanted to change it to their version of java and expect everybody else to fall in line.
Going back to the car analogy, government builds roads, manufacturers build cars to drive on them, and then government changes width of roads so that cars no longer fit – who’s to blame?.
Youtube changed their software and the humax app no longer works, who’s to blame?
I doubt very much that youtube gave all the manufacturers and software houses 6 months notice about the changes that they were going to implement and we all know that in time humax will be forced and have to spend time and money changing their software to accommodate youtube’s changes.
I’m quite happy to have a pop at humax when they get things wrong, however this time it’s youtube that have moved the goalposts, I know it’s frustrating, but your annoyance should be towards youtube as they’re the only ones to have changed anything and broken it as a result.

InactiveIt could be argued…has Youtube broken on all devices that access it? I’ve no idea, but if the answer is no then what is it about the Humax code that is lacking, versus other devices? In that respect Humax have a case to answer.

InactiveRegardless we all understand that Youtube is the main Root of all this but if “HUMAX” has any “Respect” for its customers and future customers they should contact Youtube to try and solve the matter on our behalf.
As some members stated it may be upto Humax to provide a new update to be installed into our Humax freesat sets, so in theory Humax has to be involved to try and help solve the problem…

InactiveAs far as I know no other devises are effected by YouTubes changes. My PC, tablet and smartphone all work fine with YouTube and none of them need constant updating to keep it working.
The ONLY way this will be fixed is for HUMAX to fix their software so that YouTube can function properly.
YouTube may have built the road, but HUMAX is constantly breaking down on it.

Humax Towers are aware as are youtube and freesat, investigations continue as to where the problem lies.

The ONLY way for this to be fixed is for YouTube to actually fix it and stop breaking its functionality so often as they’re the one that have full control over how it works.
You only have to read through this link to see many people have YouTube issues with their devices everyday so it not just the Humax box that has issues.

youtube failed on my android tablet very recently, youtube are pushing out version 5.0.21 at the moment via google store and this is the version I manually downloaded to get youtube to work properly on my cheap no-name tablet.
Most people will have auto update switched on, as default, so will not notice the constant updating that goes on behind the scenes. Every time I switch on the tablet there will be at least one app wanting to update itself, most people simply aren’t aware of this constant updating. The same goes for phones and flash on my pc always seems to need updating or fixing to work with firefox.
At no point did the cheap no-name manufaturer of the tablet upgrade their software or rewrite code and neither did I feel the need to contact them about youtube failing, it was all done from youtube via google apps store.
I must be missing something here though. I can get youtube, as far as I know, on my pc, netbook, tablet, smart tv, bluray player, mobile phone, raspberry pi, humax (debatable) and I’m sure if I could be bothered to boot up and check the ps3 on that as well and I’m sure there are other devices here that don’t immediately spring to mind.
Contrast that with watching, recording and playback of freesat and I only have one device here that can do that and it does it well, it’s actually what I bought it for.
My partner was spending over £600 a year on sky and she got rid of it last year, got herself a humax and has never looked back or missed it, the only person that moaned was her daughter who spends 98% of her time at Uni anyway, although she probably would moan about youtube not working for the 2% of the time she’s home (not really relevant here, but another chance to remind sky users what it is that humax does well).
It seems to me that some people are only interested in nit-picking and stirring. We should be a community supporting each other and most of the time, I’m glad to say, we are. So, we should all ask ourselves before posting, how can I postively contribute here, and clearly I can’t fix youtube, however if my life depended on having youtube, which it doesn’t, I’d use raspberry pi as my first choice before any other of the at least half dozen devices here as the Pi is a fantastic bit of kit.
So my advice, until youtube gets fixed, either use the multitude of other devices or get a Pi

Yes, I very rarely use Youtube and only occasionally the OD services, and the onboard media player does not work for me. So I see a very real market for a stripped down PVR, without all those other functions, which handles the watching, recording and playback of Freesat very well, 100% of the time, completely reliable, no quirks, glitches or other annoyances, a proper one-button-press Favourites facility, non-Freesat channels in the EPG, and at a reasonable price. A modern equivalent of the VHS recorder. Give me that and I will buy 4 of them. My HDR1000S then goes to eBay.

Inactiveof course i am very very pleased with the excellent Freesat+ facilities, but the YouTube functinality was the reason i spent the extra £100 (or so) on the model that i purchased.
i don’t mean to cast Humax in a poor light – for all i know this could be YouTube’s fault entirely.
personally, i see On Demand and YouTube as the future of broadcasting, and i am excited to be a part of it; i am simply eager for the YouTube element to function!

InactiveIt seems this issue is not only affecting the <free time> boxes as Sony users are having the same problem with the same style of app.
