InactiveFor what it’s worth I emailed Humax:
“My HDR 1100S reboots at random times, daily. I have been following this isue on myhumax.org forum and it is obvious I am not alone in suffering from this. Is it true you have planned an update to fix this? When will it be available?”
I received this reply, yesterday, 3rd January 2017:
“Thank you for contacting Humax. Both Humax and Freesat are working towards resolving this issue currently and a software release is planned. We have not yet set a date for it. If the problem becomes more frequent do get back in touch please”.

InactiveSuggests that the Surge Suppressor may not resolve the problem.
Either way, mine should arrive today so I will give it a try and see what happens

ParticipantIt’s a very odd issue. Some of us only get the very rare re-boot (me included), others get repeated re-boots every day. We all have the same software so what’s causing the issue. Do some boxes have slightly different hardware. Mine is a very early HDR1000S, purchased as soon as they became available. We already know a few boxes have a faulty component on the motherboard that renders the hard drive unusable. Could it be a small change in hardware that requires some changes to the firmware ?
Hard to imagine the box problems arises from mains surges. The box has a external switch mode power supply that delivers smooth 12V DC. These are capable of producing smooth DC over a wide range of input voltages and frequencies.

InactiveJust a thought.
Does anyone else with this issue also use a ProVision Wireless HD Sender Kit with Receiver and Transmitter?
I can’t really see how this would make any difference as the pass-through is between the Humax box and the TV, so should not affect the power supply of the Humax box.
I now have a surge protector, so I will fit that tonight and see if it makes any difference.

Coincidentally, I believe that the problems started about the same time that I had a smart electricity meter installed.
Seeing the word ‘smart meter’ always makes me smile. They may be ‘smart’ for the utility company but they are anything but for the consumer. The reason I say this is because they are only ‘smart’ for the particular provider you are with when it’s installed. If you move to another provider for a ‘better deal’ they then revert to being a ‘dumb meter’.

Living on an island with one provider allows little choice
(still no reboot)

A bit puzzled, everyone only has one company responsible for the transformers and cables that feed your property. It has no bearing on which company you contract with to provide your energy. Afaik no one in the UK should be in a monopoly position as to who they choose to pay their bills too.

Located in Jersey, and we still live within the large monopoly system. Freeview just a hand full of channels, no Sky cable etc.
Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are part of the British Isles. England, Scotland and Wales make up Great Britain, while the United Kingdom includes Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Jersey is a British Crown Dependency.

Many years ago when I worked for National Grid I knew the General Manager of your company. One steam powered power station in St Helier, a few diesels and a single interconnector to France. I guess you have more infrastructure these days.

Is Hull still a special case?

(still no reboot)I live in France, does not the distributor provide the smart meters to be used by all providers? If so why not.
That is the case in France, but I have to 2wait another 18 months before it reaches me.
It also enables new peak times tariffs that will penalise peak demand times.

Have a read of THIS You can rely on UK business to skew the game in their favour rather than the consumers.

InactiveThe Surge Protector did not work as the device seems to have rebooted again yesterday whilst recording. The recording was truncated.

Not surprised by this. I have six products protected by a surge protector including two Humax PVRs one being the 1000s. I don’t think our box has experienced a reboot since around October or early November.
