ParticipantTo install the full web interface without a direct internet connection to your HDR you must use some other indirect means to download the nine required packages from the online repository and place these in the folder /opt/tmp.
You can access the repository by pointing a browser at http://www.hummypkg.org.uk/foxsat/
Download packages by clicking on the [Package] link alongside the package name.
Then telnet into the box and execute the following commands in the exact order given.
cd /opt/tmp
opkg install busybox_1.18.4-1_mips.opk
opkg install jim-tcl_0.7.1-1_mips.opk
opkg install hmt_2.3_mips.opk
opkg install sysclock_1.1_mips.opk
opkg install service-manager_2.0_mips.opk
opkg install epg_1.5_mips.opk
opkg install webif_2.75_mips.opk –force-depends
opkg install webif-docs_1.03_mips.opk
opkg install channel-icons_1.07_mips.opk
reboot
Ignore the dependency errors generated when installing webif_2.75_mips.opk as it will install anyway because of the –force-depends option.
You should then be able to access the full web interface.
Don’t forget to refresh your browser cache (Ctrl/F5).

Not so much a premium product, but an inferiorly coded and tested, sloppily released, badly supported product IMO.
Which doesn’t count for much IMO.

See the package documentation (http: to the web interface and choose the documentation icon)- I don’t have access to my unit until tomorrow but I am sure it is covered.
Anyway, basically you issue a disk-fix command (Think it has a hyphen) and the box will start in maintenance mode
Yes, it does have a hyphen, but it’s fix-disk, not disk-fix.

I have upgraded to the latest version of CFW (v4.1.1.) but still cannot stream content to PC. When I click on the “Play” button it opens new screen with a small square with what looks like 4 colours (in the top left hand corner) Is something missing on my PC? (Windows 7 Professional 64Bit)
Jim
If you are using the VLC Player plug-in from the web interface then you also need VLC, including the ActiveX component, installed on your PC. See the VLC Plug-in documentation in the Web Interface about the use and pre-requisites for this plug-in.
Alternatively you can install XBMC client on your PC (sorry Graham, but there is no XBMC package for the Foxsat)
For XBMC client to work on your PC you must have first installed and configured either TwonkyMedia or MediaTomb server on the Foxsat.

Power saving off, correct time is displayed,,,
echo $TZ…returns ,,,nothing !
I did this…TZ=GMT+0BST,M3.5.0/1,M10.5.0/2
and rebooted, echo $TZ still returns nothing…
I suspect that you may have flashed with a version of CFW that I released as a quick-fix when the cause of the time problem had still not been determined to be caused by the nowster patch. This quick-fix version had the timezone setting removed. I took down the link the next day and advised everyone who installed it to reflash with the original v4.1.1. I suggest you download it again from one of the links contained in the post here and reflash your box.

Hi Graham,
can you help here, I thought I would be able to play my recorded pvr files on my PC. VLC media player is installed
but not playing!
You need to install the VLC Player plug-in from the web interface. Be sure to read about the pre-requisites in the help information pages that gets installed with it as you need VLC on your PC also.
Once installed use the Web Interface’s own media browser to select an unencrypted recording title. The Media Details window that pops up will contain a ‘Play’ button.
BTW noted from your earlier post that the CFW you installed is v4.0.8. Latest is v4.1.1 and so you should really update to this one.

So why did it only affect some people running the custom firmware?
It only affected users who had previously installed the settop patch.

Literally just press the OPT+ button, hit Rename then Close in the web interface is it?
Not quite, Hit Rename then Update, not Close .

I’m using the expansion to Raydon’s 4.1.1 firmware which allows you to set mount points for SMB shares on a Windows PC, which show up on the Foxsat HDR UI as USB1.
My question is, how do I configure AV2HDR in such a way that it allows the output files the right path so I can play Humax formatted videos from the SMB shares. I’ve tried a couple of different things and so far nothing… my guess is the HMT file is at fault.
Hi Zeke, you don’t have to do anything special to get your AV2HDR converted video to play on the HDR using a NASMount share. Any three file set comprising of of ts,nts, and hmt placed into the shared folder on the PC will be listed in the HDR’s media list and be playable. This is regardless of the original filepath written to the hmt file since this is ignored by the HDR when reading from a USB drive. When you open a source video in AV2HDR for conversion just leave the HDR destination folder at its default of USB (/media/sda1). Then using the dropdown menu select ‘File/Select Output Folder’ and browse and select your NASmount share folder on the PC. Hit the ‘GO’ button and your done. Simples

ParticipantHow is the USB hard disk formatted ? If it is FAT32 then the T2 will only copy 4GB max. regardless of actual disk space. You need to format the disk using ext3.

Is it possible that I was locked out previously because I’d set up a password under settings and basically locked myself out? I’m curious to understand why it all of a sudden stopped allowing me access.
Hi Charlie, you didn’t say what the initial state of the mongoose service was, when you first telnet’ed in. If Auto was ‘Off’ then you must have turned off ‘Auto Startup’ for mongoose via the Service Management page in the Web interface. In that case you would get no response at all when trying to access the HDR via a web browser. If you had just set a user name and password for Web Interface access then you would have still have been prompted for this username and password by the mongoose web server. If you forgot the password the you can use another little utility to reset it. Details on this utility can be found here.

Apologies one and all especially you Raydon. I come from a past that included technical support and whilst your comments towards me are valid, you cannot expect your audience to be as gen’ed up as your good self.
Hi Charlie, I don’t expect my audience to be as ‘gen’ed up’ as me. And I don’t expect that my audience should expect me to teach them what they don’t know. AV2HDR can use FTP to transfer files, so if you want to use this function then get “gen’ed up” on FTP client/server. It’s a subject on its own and beyond the remit of AV2HDR.
Thank you’s do go a long way and please take this reply as a massive thank you. Hopefully you can now help me as I seem to have lost the ability to reconnect via keying in my ip address to view the HDD. However the AV2HDR still works and am able to put TS files onto the Humax but am not able to browse it via IP address. It all went pear shaped after installing vsFTPd. Thank you again.
Just installing vsFTPd should not have stopped the web interface from working. However, to check what’s wrong you are going to have to learn about another network utility called telnet. If you have not already installed telnet via the web interface the you will need to install it via USB. The installer package is in the same rar archive as the custom firmware. Just copy the file ‘telnet_1.0_mips.opk’ to a USB stick. (Advice on USB installs are in the readme.txt).
If you are using Windows XP then the telnet client is enabled by default. If your using Windows 7 the you need to enable it. See directions here on how to do this. Then open a command line window and type telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx replacing x’s with your HDR’s IP address. You should be rewarded with a prompt like this Foxsat-HDR~#. Then enter service to list the running sevices. It should look like this.
Code:Foxsat-HDR~# serviceName Installed Autostart Running
—- ——— ——— ——-
telnet Yes Yes Yes
dropbear Yes Yes Yes
tinyftp Yes No No
vsftpd Yes Yes Yes
samba Yes Yes Yes
mediatomb Yes No No
twonkymedia Yes No No
mongoose Yes Yes Yes
inadyn No No NoSyntax:
service start <service>
service stop <service>
service toggle <service> (toggles service state)
service auto <service> (toggles autostart)Foxsat-HDR~#
You should have three Yes’s for mongoose web server.
If autostart says ‘No’ then enter service auto mongoose
If running says ‘No’ the enter service start mongoose
Then enter service on its own again to recheck status. If mongoose fails to start for any reason then you will at least see an error message. In that case let me know and we’ll take it from there.

May I suggest that Raydons AV2HDR has a more comprehensive help menu which should include and idiots guide for numbnuts like me.
Sorry Charlie, but if I had to write a help file to cover every possible eventuality, including the provision of a basic networking tutorial, I would need to write an encyclopaedia. Basic skills like networking need to be learned. You don’t buy a car then expect the salesman to teach you to drive. And in the case of AV2HDR you don’t even have to pay for it. May I suggest that a thank you always helps, before criticising something simply because you don’t understand it.

….when I select play there is no video/audio, Ali get is the controls for the file, play ff rw etc and ‘plugin required’ displayed.
I have installed vlc player through package Managment ut it does not work.
Hi Mike,
It’s not enough just to install the VLC player plug-in on your HDR. A pre-requisite is that you must first have installed VLC on your client PC. This is all explained in the VLC Player Plug-in guide available under the Documentation tab in the Web Interface.
Not sure if VLC player is available for iPad or MAC as I don’t own either.
regards
