ParticipantAs subtitles are fine on other channels I would surmise that they are not being transmitted, whether because they are not available for that particular programme or some other reason.

Participantyou will need to remove the HDD from the 9300 and connect to a PC either using a USB-SATA adapter or an external SATA cradle. DO NOT allow the PC to initialise the drive, but use humaxrw (available here (link))in recovery mode to retrieve your files.
Note: as you probably now realise the 9300 should be off when connecting an aerial amp taking power from it.

ParticipantHave you imported the files to your ‘media library’ on the PC?

ParticipantTo save trying to read the whole thread for anyone coming to this fresh I have added a couple of links to the first post to relevant posts from Barry and myself with links to DTG and Humax pages. see post #1.

ParticipantI know Barry has posted about this in another thread but Please do not use all capitals.
You may not be aware of this, and for the benefit of others, in online forums, emails and other online communications, using all capital letters is considered shouting and also makes the text more difficult to read.

ParticipantHi Ben, I see no-one has responded to this thread yet though I see you’ve already posted a couple of queries. I hope our knowledgable members have been able to help you out, and that you may be able to reciprocate, given your background.
Welcome to the forum.

many thanks for all your help. Now back up and working.
Great – if only they would give it the functionality of the original Tivo !! Mine still works alongside the Humax and is better for some things.
Still, at least it is all back up and running, thanks to you
The new Tivos aren’t bad either, though you do need a VM cable to get one.

Just to repost a few links for those who can’t or won’t read through a long thread.

Humax digital download page for files and instructions on updating.
Humax UK Facebook page for news on updates etc.

ParticipantHi Rowan and welcome to the forum

Some broadcasters are better than others in transmitting the correct EIT info – the info that triggers the start and stop of recordings. If you want to ensure that a particular programme records in its entirety then you can edit the start and stop times of that programme only without sacrificing the ‘accurate recording’ for the rest of the schedule. Just go into the schedule select the relevant programme and ‘edit’ it.

To conclude this thread, my problem is fixed. It appears to be an issue with the College network where the Humax is scanning every PC on the network before finding my own.
Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.
I am not sure the college would be happy about the humax scanning its network, hence suggesting using a router where the humax is then on your private network behind the router but you can still access the network from your PC or internet (iPlayer etc) from the humax.
Edit: see this one for a cheap router. I use one of these at work (though I paid much more for it).

ParticipantI would be inclined to suggest that on a college network you get a cheap router (ones designed for cable NOT ADSL) whose External IP address should be set to the assigned address (DHCP will pick one up automatically if not static from the college) and leave the router to assign internal addresses via DHCP. They normally include a switch but you could alternatively use the existing one.
If you have statically set an IP on the humax based on an assigned from the college IP on your PC then there may be IP conflicts on the college network.

Participantjust a thought that if the ‘ghosting’ is on the analogue TV channels rather than the 9150 then see this FAQ (link).
If it is from the 9150 then you may need to change the scart lead to a fully screened one as the ghosting could be coming from the output on the scart from the TV interfering with the input signal from the 9150 – quite a common problem which may be alleviated temporarily by tuning the TV to a channel with no video signal. (TVs often output the currently tuned channel to enable descrambling {- not relevant in the UK} or recording from the internal tuner.)

ParticipantIf you are not using a router and therefore not using DHCP you will need to set static IP addresses on both the PC and Fox T2. They should both be in the range 192.168.x.y where x can be 0 to 255 and should be the same for both units and y can be between 1 and 253 but should be different for each.
Should you connect to a router just use DHCP for both.

ParticipantThat should work fine for you, you may find the wifi dongle you have will be ok with the access point on the plug in the room.

ParticipantHi and welcome to the forum.

You have a few alternatives.
Homeplugs aka powerline adapters – you need at least 2 of the AV or 200Mb variety and since you have an unreliable (I assume wifi) dongle you may want to look at the multi-output versions. Humax sell them on their site under ‘accessories’ or you can get them at Maplin or PC world or Amazon amongst others. ‘Plug through’ types will not use up an extra socket. note that you will need a Cat 5e or Cat 6 lead with each piece of connected equipment but if you buy a set of 2 they normally come with 2 cables.
Hardwire back to the router with Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable from the Fox HD/ and or the Xbox.
Hardwire Fox HD and Xbox to a network switch and either hardwire or use homeplugs to connect back to the router. Note a multi-output homeplug is essentially a homeplug and network switch combined. Solwise actually make a 3 LAN 6 mains extension which I have used in a friends case where wifi would not penetrate internal walls.
Edit: I see martin and Barry got in there before me with recommended wifi dongles. If you have poor wifi you can always improve it using reflectors. google wifi reflectors for simple designs.
