So the question is should I be able to record to that device?

I am afraid the answer is no; you can only record to the internal hard drive.

Gerrymac sent me his full post code and I think he should be able to receive the channels carried by the COM7 HD multiplex satisfactorily. My only thought is that the next highest broadcast channel number carried by Divis is 30. I wonder if it is possible that your aerial isn’t a wideband type and is a Group A, B or K which will have reduced performance when receiving channel 55; perhaps talk to an aerial installer for his thoughts. Keep in mind that COM7 HD mux isn’t likely to be around forever. At one time it was possible it would close in 2020 which it didn’t; 2022 in another possible closure date but in a quick search I couldn’t find anything authoritative; anybody have more information?

Have been doing that but to no avail. TV is

How is the TV connected to the Humax? You need both an HDMI cable and an aerial lead from the output socket on the Humax to the TV.

It’s less than 18-months old, Martin.

Once i’ve deleted the programme, it’s gone, then I look the next day and the file appears back in the index.

Is it a specific single recording that keeps reappearing?

I need to pass it on and was trying to do a factory reset including a format of the hard drive but it just sits in a “Processing”[/i] state.

In the end I had to do a hard restart. Strangely all the recordings previously not visible under Media/Videos now appear but will not play. I have therefore tried deleting them and they disappear off the list but the box still says “*Deleting”.

My guess is that the file system has become corrupted. The actual hard drive may be OK or may need replacing. If you can take the hard drive out of the Humax and connect it to a PC, I can tell you how to tell if the drive is OK.

I have read on these forums that the HDR-Fox T2 does this and there is a custom firmware to try and resolve it. Is there a custom firmware for the 1800T?

    No unfortunately not.

I’m getting this message flash up as the box starts:

    Quote:
The programme cannot be viewed via HDMI connection as your TV does not support digital content protection (HDCP)

The Aura was tuned to BBC 101. The actual output does seem to be in HDMI however.

    Yes, there’s no HDCP on the TV – it’s a 2010 era Samsung LE40C530.

I agree with MickO that it is an HDMI handshake problem. If you search the internet you will find lots of problems concerning HDMI handshake for all sorts of devices. Providing it is merely a glitch when starting up then my advice would be to simply ignore it (unless you were looking for an excuse to get a new TV).

I guess nobody else is seeing this. It’s very odd.

It sounds to me as though there may be some corruption of the file system on the hard drive. How old is your box?

(USB 3.0 Spec. is supposed to be good for up to 625 MB/s read speed!)

Any suggestions how to increase Transfer speed?

The speeds you have quoted are significantly faster than earlier Humax boxes. I have always thought the speed was limited by the CPU performance; the CPU in your PC is almost certainly many times more powerful than the CPU in the Aura so it may be difficult to get big increases in copying performance.

I have to confess in all the years I have been building computers I have never come across an Ethernet fault like the Aura exhibited.

I have come across lots of strange network faults but they are usually software issues. I am currently battling a Windows 10 computer that when it tries to connect to my Asus router by DHCP fails but also kills the DHCP server on the router, which I have never seen before.

What makes you think that the problem has anything to do with IPv6?

It was a speculation based on the notion that IPv6 isn’t that common yet (hence not many problem reports) and maybe there was an issue with the network stack that Humax have fixed in the latest software update. I just don’t think the symptoms Faust was experiencing sound like a hardware problem but switching box fixed the issue. Happy to hear what you think the problem was?

Signal Quality is 100% on all channels. The ones that have picture break up are 46/48% Strength (Ch55,746000KHz,8MHz,32K,1/16(DVB-T2))

Ok. I understand your problem now. Could you send me a Private Message (link at near top right of Forum) with your full postcode please?

I have tried a few things, and one of them was to plug my USB to serial converter directly into the PVR – and not using the null modem cable (..maybe when you have a usb to male serial converter the null modem cable isn’t necessary?)

Well done; I hadn’t realised you had a USB to serial with a male connector. They are quite rare in my experience as most are designed to have the same connector as an IBM PC. I think you have very clearly demonstrated that the cable isn’t necessary in this case.

On running Flash9200 something happened very quickly and the PVR said ‘MENU’.

It will happen very quickly as the amount of data to be uploaded is tiny.

I guessed that I should try the upgrade again using the ‘slow’ option and more seems to have happened this time.

No need but no harm done.

I am quite encouraged actually and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to try using humaxrw to troubleshoot the endless reboot cycle (I saw somewhere that one of the options to try is ‘humaxrw 1: -z’. I am happy to be guided by you as to the next thing to do though!

With the aerial out, see if you can get to the Menu and do a reset to default settings would be the first thing I would try.

I thought you said earlier you had already tried humaxrw -Z if not then try again? I doubt it will help but you could try reinstalling the firmware now you have a working flash9200. You can download the software from http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/freeview-sd

It is a long time since I have used one of these boxes; is there anybody else who has suggestions as to what else to try (Luke, xyz321)?

No close loop to TV when FVP5000t turned off

Press Red Freeview Button > select Settings> System Settings> Power Management then set Power Saving Mode to Off.

So I think the cable is ok for what we are tying to do here.

My original answer to the question appears to have got lost. I agree the cable should be fine although my test cable only has pins 2,3 and 5 connected.

Are there some more things I can try?

I take it that you have flash9200 running and counting down and then you are switching on the mains power to the 9300T? Flash9200 has been very widely used so I am struggling to understand your problem.

Is there something more basic I have missed?

Really hard to say; can you describe in excruciating detail what you are doing please?

Really, interesting. Why are they being shown as it’s caused me total confusion as I’m thinking this new replacement is also faulty despite all indications to the contrary.

Ah! now on further interrogation of the router I have found that the first part of the string does indeed correspond to “Link Local Address” with the following Info – IPv6 is the most recent version of the protocol used to identify all the different devices on the internet.

If IPv6 is enabled, you’ll see some extra information.

If it bothers you, turn off IPv6 at the router but IPv6 is the future and at some point we are all going to have to embrace it. I wonder if the problem you were having with the original box was linked to the fact that your network is IPv6 enabled?
