    Thanks.

I’m wondering if the problem is too many files. It’s a 1TB disk and is probably 75% full.

I think that is unlikely. It would have reported a long time ago if there was an inherent problem.

I’m going to try one other thing, and that’s to copy/move the files from the internal drive to an external device to see if the problem is resolved by emptying the internal drive.

    Good idea.

I will restore fewer recordings and see if the problem goes away.

How are you going to restore them?

I’ll try the retune…..it always worries me though as I’m never convinced I’ll get all the other channels back!

Make sure Smart retune is off. If you don’t get a full range of channels then come back here and tell us what is missing and we can explain how to manually tune to get them.

No, not any specific recording index. There is no apparent pattern to it.

It isn’t a commonly reported problem as far as I know. Try talking to Humax technical support.

    Is there anybody out there?!

I always hesitate when people say they want a simple answer.

Just checked some of the channels and quite a few have no/poo signal. It’s 11, 12, 21 (Dave, sky arts, puck, 5usa) plus others!

Assume this may be part of the problem….but doesn’t cover problems 1&2!

I suggest you start off by doing an automatic retune with the Smart option off. Note that you will have to re-enter your schedule of future recordings so it might help to take photos of the current recording schedule.

Just tried to update my 5000T but getting “no new software detected”

It is a phased rollout, presumably to minimise the load on the Humax servers, so it won’t immediately be available to everybody but you will get it in due course.

Thanks Martin – do you know if it uses the same format for the disc recordings? – i.e. could I copy recorded programs from the old 9300 disc onto a disc being used in a 2000-T?

The HDR-2000T will play the .ts files. The other files associated with a recording are not the same on the HDR-2000T so you will lose some functionality on playback but they will play.

I presume you can’t convert the content on the 5000 to SD.

    Yes you can

    https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/file-transfer

Please can you explain how the file transfer FAQ for the FVP-5000T provides a method of converting HD recordings to SD?

I tried putting in a spare disc as you advised. It offered to format it and worked perfectly. Watching TV, recording programs, playing them back, all perfect.

I guessed that if the box was suddenly feeling well, that I could copy the programs off the original disc onto the new disc and everything would be ok.

Unfortunately on powering off and on, the Flash RAM has forgotten everything and I am back in standby.

I think that is pretty conclusive, pity.

From here I am thinking I could see if anyone has an old 9300 with at least a working Flash that they would like to donate, and I could then proceed with figuring out how to copy the programs onto a spare disc and get that going.

Have you considered a refurbished HDR-2000T from Humax Direct for £89 with a years warranty? My technophobic partner found the step from a 9200T (very similar user interface to a 9300T) to and HDR-2000T pretty straightforward and the HDR-2000T is a more competent PVR thatn the 9300T.

Is it likely ever to get Netflix do we know?

I suspect the issue with Netflix is commercial rather than technical so while I don’t think anything will change in the short term, I think there is a chance it might happen in the future.

I used a brand new Samsung 256 GB SSD as I had just bought it and thought it should be OK. However, with you asking the question I suspect it wasn’t a good idea.

No I was just checking that you hadn’t fitted a drive greater than 2TB.

I wrongly assumed that a disk was a disk and that its capacity shouldn’t be a problem as I had read people put in larger disks.

Disk designed for PVRs do have some optimisations in the firmware but non PVR disks should work.

I am an ex techie and was hoping to resolve the problem and I don’t really think its worth spending money just to be disappointed after a year.

A number of people have sent boxes to Digirepair and I have seen only one report of a subsequent failure but I thought it worth mentioning.

My plan, if the SSD worked, was to buy a new 512gb disk and use the SSD in my desktop.

Perfectly sensible. I am a big fan of SSDs in PCs.

That is National COM 7 and as already been stated is on low power. I can lose these channels every time we get a high pressure inversion. The Humax tuners do return a lower power value than the TV and it tends to be the Humax that drops the channels.

True but the Freeview coverage checker thinks he should be able to get a good signal (S 99% M100%). What does it say for your location?

In the screenshot below where do I find this folder on my pc or do I have to create a path to it or something ?

I don’t know if you can drag and drop as you are trying to do. To me, page 24 of the User Manual is saying you need to turn on the FTP server on the Humax and use an FTP client such as Filezilla to upload files to the Humax.

Martin, I have used CSK ans SMART and other than a bad sector there doesn’t seem to be a problem with the disk. So I tried a new disk and the Humax won’t format either of them.

What size hard drive did you use?

The new disk eventually had three partitions put on it but without formatting them. I put ext3 formats on each partition and the humax recognised the disk and the space. I tried to record to it and hey presto the hum,ax didn’t recognise the disk and said it required formatting….which it doesn’t do at all now.

I installed the latest s/w and it still does nothing.

So is there anything else I could do as I really would like to have this box working.

It doesn’t sound good. It sounds rather like the HDR-1000S problem where the box is unable to access the hard drive; it is believed it is a hardware problem but nobody knows exactly what component is involved. A company called Digirepair in Northern Ireland can repair them but it isn’t cheap and somebody here posted recently that the problem returned after a year. Sorry I don’t have anything more positive to offer; maybe somebody else has an idea?

Further to this, I uploaded the new firmware, but it didn’t seem to help. I uploaded the other .hdf and that managed to reset things so it could retune could retune, view TV channels, etc. I kept the disc disconnected and this worked fine until I powered it off and on again.

So near and yet so far.

It seems to have forgotten the new .hdf and again just goes to standby rather than showing TV channels. Do the .hdf files get loaded to part of the hardware that is kept alive by battery power?

No battery needed, it is flash RAM.

This is such an old box that such a battery would long ago have expired? If there is such a thing, is there a replacement part for it?

Alternatively, I am wondering if this PVR is past it and is ready for the bin?!

I am beginning to think the Flash RAM is end of life. There have been several reports of problems with 9300T (and not for other models) which I have long suspected are flash RAM failures. In my view if the flash RAM has failed then the box is scrap. But if you have a spare drive try with that first before scrapping. Sorry if I have wasted your time.

I took the disc out again but now for some reason it is showing as ‘not initialized’ so I can’t see it in explorer or run Humaxrw against it.

You do not want it initialised and you will never be able to see it using Windows Explorer. The file system used by the 9200/9300 models is proprietary to Humax and you need to use Humaxrw to see what is on the drive.

I am just running windows update on my Windows laptop just in case that helps. I may also see if I can use a utility like disk drill that may help. In the mean time I’m feeling rather stuck!

    It won’t help.

I could try rerunning Flash9200 but I am not sure how long it will be before my machine forgets and goes back to either continually rebooting or goes back to just going straight into standby.

Have you used humaxrw to delete epgsave.dat ?

    I could reinstall the firmware.

    No point.

Regarding the disc, if it is corrupted somehow, I suppose I could forget the recordings and see if I can revive the machine this time with just an empty/reformatted disc to record to?

If you have a spare drive lying around it is worth trying.
