Can I just check, is the connection to the router via a single cable or are there Homeplug/Powerline adapters involved?

Humax Towers have been reading this thread and asked me to post the following:

It is good to see Humax engaging with this Forum Barry. I am thinking that if Humax continue to fix bugs for a while longer, then the Aura may well turn out to be the best box they have produced since the HDR-FOX T2.

I ask because what you describe seems to point to a router problem, perhaps defaulting to factory defaults using a the 192.0.2 network which is strange as nearly always the network commences with 192.168. except for some using the ranges commencing with 10. However it is a reserved non routable address so it could be OK.

The 192.0.2.100 is the default address that several models of Humax recorder will use if DHCP fails; the information comes from work on the custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2.

I don’t even know if it is actually doing anything other than looking for the hard drive.

Can I. just turn the box off and hope that I can still use all other capabilities of the PVR.

I don’t know anything about the 7500T but if I saw a format taking many hours on the Humax boxes I am familiar with, then I would be quite certain it wasn’t going to do anything. My advice is turn the box off, try the format again and if that doesn’t work then consider changing the hard drive.

I don’t think there is any Humax box in the UK that will support all three of those apps currently.

Just need to reset the box. Just won’t to know how to do it using box buttons. Know it can be done that way

Please could you explain how you know that? It isn’t something I can recollect being discussed previously. The only way I think it might be possible is if Humax have a system reset file available which you apply in the same way as a firmware update via a USB stick. Sadly I haven’t got one but It might be worth contacting Humax support to see if they have one.

Was speaking with my local TV Engineer and he has told me that these 3 channels are transmitted on a higher frequency (HD) and the diplexer won’t let them through.

Have to watch these in SD.

    Thanks for the input.

Yes that makes sense (not that I know anything about the frequency limitations of diplexers); thanks for coming back with that extra information.

We never use had channels so not bothered about those ….I just know some were removed in the last year or so along with some +1’s

OK but you could receive the main HD channels if you wanted.

We’re defo on Sheffield transmitter……aerial bloke confirmed it& said defo best for us.

    Can’t beat local knowledge.

As for the multiplex numbers…I have no idea how I’d find those! To find signal strength I went to ‘signal test’ on the humax & it just showed the 3 tuners and quality/strength.

On my box Signal Test shows additional text immediately to the right of the Tuner number which start with “CHxx” where xx is a number between 21 and 55; that is the number I need for each of the broadcast channels I posted earlier (BBC One, …).

Also no idea how to send you a pm!

Scroll up towards the top of the Forum page and you will see three lines below your user name, a link called “Private Messages”.

Just checked them all….though only found quest red, not quest! We don’t have most HD channels as they were removed recently cos of 5G, I think. We lost quite a few channels.

You definitely ought to be able to receive the HD channels on the BBC B multiplex. The HD ones on COM7 multiplex are the ones you will struggle to get.

All the ones you mention show as approx 47/48 strength. Some stayed at 47 and some fluctuated between 47 & 48.

You haven’t given me the Multiplex channel numbers shown on the tuner test page as CH xx where xx will be a number between 21 and 55; these are important to check how your box is tuned.

No bbc4 hd…..did check it anyway….assume it was zero as there was only one tuner showing signal and that was recording.

    Postcode is S8.

You aren’t that far from me in Chesterfield. Knowing how hilly this part of the world is could you send me a Private Message with your full post code so I can look at the coverage predictor properly. Using an arbitrary S8 postcode it seems you might have a choice of Transmitter (Emley Moor, Sheffield, Chesterfield, maybe Waltham and Belmont). Any idea which one you are actually using?

But the -39dBm is in a bedroom where wifi is not used. It is about -70dBm anywhere else. Could the Virgin Equipment be faulty?

I don’t think it indicates that the Virgin equipment is faulty but it is likely that different equipment could work better.

Is -39dBm in the same small room a normal strength?

How close is the small room to the router?

Sometimes i get the warning that the channel is going to change to start a recording, but this is when I am watching a video recording, & not using any channel. Either I click NO & the recording doesn’t take place, or the recording is started & my program stops playback.

That is very odd, it obviously thinks it doesn’t have a tuner available. Next time it happens go to Signal Test and see how many tuners are reporting a signal.

Faust, I only get -39dBm in the small bedroom where the Virgin equipment is.

Do you think that Virgin could help with this signal?

In my experience -39dBm should be just fine.

Do they need to be separated all along their length? Looking at the back of the box, they’re not crossed at all & seem quite separated all along actually. BBC still ‘stuttering’ though.

If they are reasonably well separated then cable separation isn’t the issue but unfortunately there are various other causes. Select BBC1 SD and go to signal test and report the multiplex channel number, the signal strength and signal quality. Repeat for ITV SD, Sky Arts, Quest, Yesterday, BBC One HD and if you can receive it BBC Four HD. Also give us the first part of your postcode.

Signal strength is 47 on tuner one…& 27 on tuner 2 which is taping Dave….successfully, it seems! How far away should the cables be from each other?

Signal strength of 27% is definitely getting marginal. The main thing is not to have the cables wrapped around each other but several inches separation is better.
