Must quickly say I’m SO SORRY, Martin for not replying! I was only saying yesterday that I was surprised you’d never replied! I didn’t get an email to say you had done so!

    No worries.

Checked signal again….saw the bits you mentioned…I’d not even noticed them, sigh. Results are

    Bbc1 ch27

    ITV. Ch24

    Sky arts. Ch45

    Yesterday….ch39

    Bbc1 hd…….ch21

As for quest….I don’t have it! Not on the list….should be on ch12 but isn’t, that’s Dave! Dave has been v odd in that, despite numerous retunes, it refused to move!

I agree you are tuned to Sheffield although one multiplex (SDN) is missing. Can I again ask you to PM me your full post code so I can check all the possible transmitter options.

I have mesh WiFi which connects directly into the BT Homehub and effectively replaces the HH as the router for all WiFi traffic. The HH then simply becomes a gateway device for DCHP and Ethernet connected traffic. The technician suggested disconnecting the Mesh disk to see if it had any effect on the Ethernet connection. As soon as I disconnected the mesh disk the Aura connected by Ethernet and would stay connected even with repeated shutdowns into low power standby. As soon as I reconnected the mesh disk the Aura dropped the Ethernet connection again. As I need the Mesh WiFi I’m now using the Aura on WiFi via the Mesh and the connection is rock solid.

Can I check I understand the topology of your network: you have a BT Home Hub which is the modem and the router for the WiFi; you then have a separate router supplying ethernet. Is that correct? What advantage does the separate router give you?

I sent instructions via PM on how to reset unit using hidden android recovery menu.

Barry, I suspect it is the sort of problem that will crop up multiple times; is it something that can be added to the FAQ or is the hidden Android recovery menu only for technical support?

Just got my Aura yesterday and its up and working. Yesterday, I installed an app from the Play Store (Notifications for Android TV) which basically made my Aura unusable and unwatchable for almost 24 hours.

How did you recover from that problem please?

Although I have now found out why the Aura will not stay connected via an Ethernet connection thanks to a long shot suggestion by a Humax technician, the problem isn’t solvable for my setup.

What was the long shot suggestion?

Why this issue has gone on for so long with different Humax boxes without it being addressed is a mystery as surely there own testing of their products should demonstrate an ongoing issue.

I would guess that part of the problem is that for every customer complaining because the box doesn’t work properly with a low signal, there is another customer complaining that the box doesn’t work properly with a high signal level.

    Hi,

Our Foxsat HDR in a regular basis fails to record a program this has been going on for years but has more so in recent months. I have checked all I can, re-tuned ect but all I’ve done makes no difference. We live in the Medway area of kent. I have had Humax recorders for at least ten years and this problem has always been there. Is there any solution out there?

You aren’t giving us much to go on; please can you give some examples of failed recordings (channel, programme name, date and time, whether it was a one off recording or a series recording)?

I’ve got the humax connected to my laptop with an ethernet cable. On the Humax I’ve got configure IP on DHCP. On the Windows laptop I’ve got Internet Protocol v 4 highlighted and obtain IP and DNS server address automatically selected. So it connects and I can choose maint which apparently puts the Humax in to maintenance mode but then I can’t reconnect.

OK this getting too complicated to discuss here. I suggest you have two options: start a thread over at hummy.tv where the real experts on the custom firmware are to be found or post the box to me and I will sort it out free of charge if the hard drive can be repaired or for the cost of a new hard drive if the hard drive is beyond repair.

OK, all round joy, the Instant Record now keeps going, problem over, it must have been something to do with the NVRAM being slightly corrupted perhaps, although for the machine to perform as well as it did under such circumstances felt wrong.

However, long story short, my joy was short lived, I soon discovered that it actually only keeps on recording if the internet is not reconnected (via LAN or WLAN). Once the internet is re-established, the recording stops after approx 60 secs, even when its been happily recording for 30 or more mins up to that point. The behaviour is perfectly reproduceable 100% of the time and once connected to the internet, the original faulty behaviour remains until it is once again removed.

That is a very interesting discovery but I don’t understand what is happening. For what little it is worth my Internet is permanently connected.

I sadly don’t have any current experience of the protocols but assume once again that the Jan 21 update must have a bug but then again how do you explain that so few people seem to have it? Perhaps a NVRAM flush is needed or an earlier Software Version to see if the issue goes away?

I just don’t know. It isn’t unknown for one person to have a very reproducible problem with their Humax that nobody else can replicate; often the problem eventually goes away after a while.

I’ve clicked on the Telnet Menu is there something in the menu I should try like diag or is fixdisk available?

Sorry I can’t remember what the Telnet menu looks like for a box that hasn’t got the full version of the custom firmware; is their an option to enter maintenance mode? If so that is the way to run fix-disk (you may need a PIN which unless you have changed it will be 0000). If not come back here and I will do some research.

The faulty behaviour occurs in all situations the Instant Record is used and 100% of the time. In the situation you describe, I would have ended up with approx a 46 min recording, 45 from buffer plus about another 1 min. I have uploaded two JPEGs, one of my reported SMART values and one of the partitioning on the disk (Disk 1).

Certainly to my eyes the hard drive SMART data looks absolutely fine and you have now reformatted the file system so that should also be fine so my initial theory wasn’t correct.

Humax also made me aware of the nature of the update, however I do not share their belief that it couldn't have effected other elements of the software. I accept that it may not have done but such coding changes often have unexpected consequences or accidentally inject errors. It's a 5000T.

I am still doubtful about your software theory (why does my box do perfect instant records and your box doesn’t; why aren’t there more than two reports of this problem) but to test it have you considered disconnecting the box from the Internet and installing a previous version of the firmware? If that works it would be strong evidence to present to Humax. I have a copy of a previous version of the software if you need it. I am running out of other ideas about this but my one other thought is that it just might be a problem with the file system on the NVRAM; you could ask Humax if they have system flush update file for the FVP-5000T; they exist for some Humax boxes and are designed to clean up issues with the NVRAM (usually most useful for problems with boxes not booting properly but have been known to fix other obscure problems).

Sorry Martin just meant after unpacking it and connecting it therefore using it in some small way then wanting to return it even though there’s no fault with it.

I believe that is allowed by the distance selling regulations.

For good or ill I appear to have installed the custom firmware but have no idea how to get the laptop talking to the Humax over an ethernet cable…

I take it that we have is an ethernet cable from your laptop direct to the Humax; is that correct? If so first use the normal user interface on the Humax to find the IP address of the box and write it down. If your box is running Windows 10 then follow the instructions at https://www.samsung.com/ie/support/computing/connecting-to-a-wired-lan-with-windows-10/ for setting a fixed IP address for the laptop. The IP address you should enter is the one shown by the Humax but with the last group of numbers one smaller (eg if you wrote down 10.11.12.13 for the Humax IP address you would enter 10.11.12.12). Then follow the instructions at https://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Install_Full_Web_Interface (the IP address you want is the one you wrote down earlier).

Sorry Martin but I meant could I return a drive after opening it

Forgive me but I don’t understand what you mean by “Return a drive after opening it”?

and connecting it it to the Humax only to discover that it didn’t fix the problem:.

Did you follow the procedure at https://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Install_Modified_Firmware ?

I’m a bit of a novice at this I’ve tried downloading the ones ending in 1.03.12_mod_3.13 on the page at hummy.tv which seemed to be the latest versions

That is the version you want. Your right there is something odd about the download. What works for me using Chrome on Windows 10 is to right click on the link and select open in New tab when it the brings up the dialog asking where to save it.

I have reported the problem over at Hummy.tv.
