He’s not talking about broadband just usb 3.0 transfer speeds. Firewire has the fastest sustained speed.
I don’t have any video files with a bitrate anywhere near as fast as a USB3.0 port can copy data. BBC-HD recordings have an average bitrate of around 7000Kbps
To quote he said “Also I have noticed that the gigabit ethernet port does not run at high speed”. Do you really think that is referring to USB 3.0 transfers?
I think he is referring to the speeds he gets from a Nvidia shield.
Agreed. He is doing a comparison between the ethernet speeds of the two devices isn’t he? Both devices have gigabit ethernet ports and he is comparing the observed speeds.
The Aura usb speeds are cpu limited by the level of interrupts used to service the usb ports. They have to steal clock cycles when the cpu allows it.
Where does USB come into this?

I’m reluctant to send it away for repairs as there is every chance the recordings will be lost. I rang Humax TS and they were no use at all, saying the HDD might work in another machine or might not, depending on age of machine, F/W etc.
It will work in another machine but the recordings definitely won’t be playable. If the recordings are really important then sending it away is your best chance but there will be no guarantee that the recordings will be preserved because the fault might require changing the motherboard or hard drive.
I’m now considering buying a second hand unit and putting my HDD in it and hope for the best. Or I could also put the drive into a USB caddy and see if the new unit picks it up.
Neither of those suggestions will help with playing the recordings.

I do get BBC4 HD 0806.
As you have a channel over 800 auto tune is tuning more than 1 transmitter.
We need to know which is your best transmitter and then manual tune the box to just the one transmitter.
Or he is one more victim of Smart tune.

If I remember rightly I think one of the buttons lights up when I hold it. The button that you try to turn it on with.
I think it will either be the TV or the PVR light that turns on; if it is the TV light then press the PVR button. If that isn’t the problem then try resetting the remote by removing the batteries and holding down the 0 button for 10 seconds; then put the batteries back and see if it works. If that doesn’t work then turn off the mains power to the Humax; wait for a minute and then turn the power on and see if you see anything on the TV as it boots; if it does boot it will put in itself back into standby so press the standby button on the remote.
My neighbour said the batteries are only a couple of days old.
OK that is good.
I assumed that if the box wasnt on you would not get the programmes on the tele but what do I know
If the setting “Power saving in standby” is off then the Humax will pass through the TV signal whether it is active or in standby.

I am 74 years old trying to help a neighbour of the same age. She has a Toshiba tv and Humax HDR 1800T/2000T.
Does anything light up on the remote when you press a button?

Basically the aerial has a booster and a filter (I think 4G) in the loft,
Have you considered temporarily bypassing the booster to see if a lower signal level helps?

I’ve tried a standard auto retune but that doesn’t correct the channel issue. I’ll locate ‘smart tune’ and try again with it switched off in due course.
When you do an automatic tune, the first option you are presented with is to select either Smart or Default. For a non Smart Tune you want Default. The Smart Tune is a good idea but I don’t think it is implemented very well and it is not uncommon it often leaves the tuning in a strange state. Being old school, I always do a manual tune which is quicker (once you have done it a few times) and you know exactly what you have done.

We receive our Freeview signals from a rather distant Mendip transmitter. On our TV we get Film 4 on channel 14 and More 4 on Channel 18 which I believe is what should be there. However on the PVR Channel 14 is More 4 and Channel 18 says Four music though we don’t get a usable signal. Film 4 doesn’t appear to be anywhere.
Does anyone else have this issue and is there a solution please?
I would suggest doing an automatic retune but with the ‘Smart tune’ option deactivated. This will delete the schedule of future recordings but will not delete recordings that you have stored on the hard drive.
One other issue (for now) is that when replaying most recordings the first thing to come up is a dialogue at the top of the screen saying “recording failed”.
I quite commonly see this only on BBC4 programmes; is it happening for you on all programmes? If not, which channels are likely to generate this message?

If you suspect a DNS issues causing this problem, you should change your DNS server to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 and see if this still occurs.
Surely if ping is giving a response it can’t be DNS? I wonder if traceroute (or tracert as Microsoft call it) shows anything interesting when Chrome is failing.

My box FVP-500T switches from a channel that I am on after a few minutes and I get a black screen with a message to say the signal is scambled. I then change to another channel, get a signal and then change back to the orignal channel and it is OK for a few minutes until the whole process is repeated.
When you can receive a picture, what is the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax please?

It would be very helpful to get the firmware version if possible.
Sorry, which Firmware version?

the make and model of the switch is TP-LINK TL-SG108S and other equipment connected works fine via the switch.
I would suggest giving TP-Link technical support a call and see if they have any ideas.

OK. Thank you.
Q1 – Are these reports on this forum (I didn’t find any) or other forums?
See https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/on-demand-not-working-on-hdr1100s (read the whole thread).

I connect my Humax FVP 5000T BOX to my router using a 8 port Gigabit Desktop Switch when I plug the cable from the Humax box into one of the ports the Humax box says no internet connection and when I try to run the LAN Setup on the box its says connection failed, but when I plug the cable from the Humax box straight into the back of my router the internet works straight way.
That’s an odd one; what make and model is the switch? I take it other equipment works properly when connected via the switch?
