Signal Detection shows Channel 23 as 60% Strength, 40% Quality.

The signal strength is fine; the problems are down to the low quality figure. Start by checking the aerial feed cable to the box looking for kinks or badly made joints.

Any idea whether/how I might be able to get reception for these channels?

Tell us what the signal strength and quality is as reported by the Humax please (Menu Button>Settings>System>Signal detection)?

I do not have Linux, though it was to be project in lockdown. But I’ll do a chkdsk externally then and lock out any errors hopefully. Many thanks

The HDR-2000T uses a Linux filesystem (probably ext3) and I don’t think chkdsk will cope with that which is why you need a Linux OS to run fsck (the Linux equivalent of chkdsk).

On size of recording a whole multiplex; is my maths wrong here?

40Mbit/sec is the bitrate of the HD multiplex.

40/8 = 5megabytes per second of data. x 60 sec x 60 min x 24 hours = 423Gigabytes of data. So say half a terrabyte disk, or 25% of the 2Tb models. Its a lot of usage but for a fabulously useful service. It’s a real shame no-one has replicated that functionality.

That seems about right but the recordings are much smaller thanks to stat muxing.

The actual hdd capacity is actually less due to the same rounding using 1000. 4236/1024 TB

Where is 4326 coming from? the calculation shown above says 423GB and my calculation says 432GB.

I have had a root around the threads and apologies if this has come up before. My HDD is causing problems usually around the 70% used; failed recordings. I was wondering if there’s a chkdsk option for this model? If not, can I removed the HDD and do an external error check?

You can certainly remove the hard drive and do an external check. At the same time you should take the opportunity to look at the SMART data which can reveal a lot about the physical health of the drive. You will need a computer running Linux to do the check but if you have a PC of some this can be achieved by booting the PC from a live CD or pen drive of a Linux distribution.

Hello again – you were all really helpful last time and I’m hoping you’ll be able to help again.

My parents have a 2000T and they have suddenly stopped receiving BBC1 and BBC2. They have another 2000T in another room which is receiving them fine, so I don’t think it’s a signal issue.

Are both the TVs fed from the same aerial? If they are is there an amplifier with multiple outputs or a passive splitter? I would start by looking at the cabling for the TV that is not receiving the BBC multiplex. You are looking for kinks in the cable or badly made joints or loose plugs; they can create a notch filter that wipes out a particular frequency.

It took me a little while to find an app that :D worked.

For future reference, which app are you using?

I want to copy recorded programs from my FVP-5000T recorder to my Moto E7 Plus phone.

At present I can only do this by copying the programs to a USB device and then copying from there to my phone. This is a time-consuming procedure; I would like to copy directly to the phone.

You need to find a DLNA client app for the phone that will allow the content that is received to be saved.

Are specifications of this detail published by Humax?

I am fairly sure they have been for some previous models.

If refering to the specifications published on the Humax website then no I cannot see any mention of DTCP-IP protocol. But looking on the Humax website the specifications they publish for the FVP-4000T & FVP-5000T don’t mention DTCP-IP protocol and there are comments on this forum that those boxes can play each others HD recordings in full HD.

I am as certain as I can be that the FVP-4000T and FVP-5000T are using DTCP-IP to protect playing of HD recordings. The earlier HDR-FOX T2 also used DTCP-IP (but an earlier version) hence HD recordings on an HDR-FOX T2 can be played on an FVP-5000T but HD recordings on the FVP-5000T will not play on the HDR-FOX T2.

The potential attraction of using a second Aura to view the recordings streamed from the first Aura would be if the second Aura could play the first Auras HD recordings in full HD.

To get full HD then the Aura would need to support the DTCP-IP protocol; is that listed anywhere in the specifications?

Im sorry but she could not explain clearly what it was. He checked the box number and then the remote number. She had to go into different things pressing keys and one of them was HDMI.

Thanks; I think SSThing is right that the problem was probably with the TV not looking at the correct port for the connection from the Humax. I should probably have asked you a few more questions; glad your neighbour got it working.

My neighbour phoned Humax and they were able to talk her through what to do. It took a while as at our age things take a while to sink in. All ok now.

Good; for future reference what was the problem and solution please?

When I set up programme recordings for 2 channels, which will actually be transmitted at the same time, I am able to watch a third channel without problem. However, if I have switched off the television and subsequently returned at a later time, if the Humax is still recording the two programmes I am unable to get the sound on the third channel although I can receive the picture.

What software version is the Humax running please (Menu Button> Settings> System> System information)?

It looks like the aura box has some sort of cap as it will only allow like 230meg ish. Nvidia shield on same cable gives 800 meg

Humax have always tended to specify the performance of the chipsets in their boxes to be enough to handle the maximum workload with only a small safety margin. I am not surprised that the Humax network performance is slower than the Nvidia.

I am afraid that nothing worked. My friends is going to phone Humax tomorrow to see what they can do.

Final thought, have you tried using the power button on the Humax itself (front panel on the left on a 2000T, not sure about 1800T).
