I was only re-formatting the drive, to make it as “original” as possible after a factory re-set.

As far as I know it records and plays back OK.

My question is do I need to worry about the format error, if it’s working OK?

I think it is a concern if it won’t format properly. How much testing have you done to convince yourself it is working OK?

I can now confirm that – the Humax sees the 1TB disk now I have changed it from GPT to MBR.

    Thanks for confirming this.

jacklx – 19 hours ago <a href=”https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/dropouts-in-sound-and-video-on-live-or-This situation occurred last Saturday and all the recordings exhibited video and sound drop-outs. Of course as all the stuff was in HD it was from my local HD Mux and I can’t help but wonder if this might be the problem. Is my recorder capable of recording three separate programmes simultaneously?

Yes it should be capable of recording three HD programmes simultaneously but it will be causing the box to run hotter than normal and given the current ambient temperatures that could be an issue. Is your box in a well ventilated position (ie not in a cabinet or in the middle of a stack of other boxes)?

Not sure what a disk check does, I’m guessing at a read only test looking for checksum and address errors as I used to run when having to work for a living. .

At a guess it will run a short S.M.A.R.T. self test. One source on the web suggests this includes:

“Electrical Properties: The controller tests its own electronics, and since this is specific to each manufacturer, it cannot be explained exactly what is being tested. It is conceivable, for example, to test the internal RAM, the read/write circuits or the head electronics.

Mechanical Properties: The exact sequence of the servos and the positioning mechanism to be tested is also specific to each manufacturer.

Read/Verify: It will read a certain area of the disk and verify certain data, the size and position of the region that is read is also specific to each manufacturer.”

    BTW signal test shows 100%.

Could you provide both the signal strength figure and the signal quality figure please?

Guessing it’s down to the current high pressure conditions. This makes UHF travel further so transmitters you normally can’t see become receivable. If one of these uses the same UHF carrier as your local transmitter uses they interfere with each other. Tune to a channel with issues. Check the signal info. FVP button – settings (the cog icon) – channel and Broadcast Signal test. If the quality is varying then you have the likely reason.

But the OP said in his original post that rewinding and replaying didn’t show blips in the same place?

Seperate your HDMI cable as possible from the aerial connections. Do not run them in parallel.

Make up aerial connections using double screened WF100 sat grade cable. Terminate with screw on F connectors using F to Belling Lee adaptors where needed.

Good advice particularly about keeping HDMI and aerial cabling well separted.

Thanks – the USB disk is GPT – I used AOEMI Partition Assistant to find out. Should I change it to MBR which AOEMI can do.

Up to you; MBR will work with the Humax, GPT will not (so far as I am aware).

I am trying to archive about 1TB from my FVP-4000T to disk but it is very slow. I am following How to archive recordings to USB HDD in the FAQ.

I have to copy to a USB memory stick as it doesn’t recognise a 1TB SATA disk plugged into the USB socket via a SATA to USB Adapter.

What style of partition table does the 1TB drive use (MBR or GPT)?

    Is there a faster way?

If you have a Windows 8 or later PC you can use the method described in this FAQ https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/file-transfer NB It starts off talking about Samba but the Network Server is a DLNA server. It takes a bit of practice to get it right but is much, much quicker than copying via USB. If you don’t have a suitable PC then you can use a similar method using VLC to capture the DLNA stream to a file.

Can I take the disk out of the FVP-4000T and copy directly from it?

Yes BUT this won’t remove the encryption applied to all recordings.

I don’t think this is a signal probelm as by replaying the recorded material the dropout doesn’t occur in the same place.

The connection to the TV is via top-spec HDMI, and both ends of the cable are firmly in place.

It might be helpful to say what make and model of TV you have? In the past their with other Humax models there have been issues with sound dropouts on certain models of TV.

Martin, Thanks for the idea but I don’t use rechargeables. They are brand name Alkaline.

And I have a battery tester which indicates they should be OK, and new batteries didn’t help either.

Fair enough but we have had users in the past who haven’t understood the implications of using rechargeable batteries. I assume the send area on the remote and the receiver area on the box are clean? I recently had to drive a fair way to assist a family member whose TV no longer responded to the remote to find the sender on the remote coated in a thick layer of black gunge (he has a heavy smoking habit). Cleaning the sender produced a miraculous restoration of functionality.

Anyway, any ideas regarding the remote control problem?

What type of batteries are you using in the remote controls? Not rechargeables by any chance?

It’s been either JAG or Walker: Texas Rsanger on CBS justice during the night, last night it was walker with JAG recording fine, yesterday it was JAG that failed and Walker was fine. In the past couple of weeks it’s been 3 or each that failed but on diffeent days.

    Walker is 02:55-03:50

    JAG is 04:35-05:20

Thanks. Not channels I record I am afraid; anybody else record these and either having success or failure?

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed an increase in failed recordings usually ones during the night, I’ve also noticed an increase in sound dropouts with both recordings and live TV.

As always when people report this sort of thing, the first question is please try and give us a few examples of failed recordings (Channel, Time, Date, Name of programme)?

I’ve just been to the Humax support page for the FVP-4000T and was pleased to see that the latest Software Build date is 13 JAN 2021

Seems like Humax are still giving it their full support.

I am afraid that is an overstatement; the FVP-4000T and FVP-5000T have never had the software polishing that has gone into the Aura since its release. The software release you mention is a generic fix for a Youtube search issue that affected a number of different Humax models so would have involved relatively little effort by Humax. I could probably fill a page or two with a list of the things that I would like to see fixed but I carry on using my FVP-5000T because it is just about good enough for its many quirks to be tolerated.

Is it a Humax problem or an ITV4 problem? And any solutions?

It is an ITV4 problem. You could schedule a manually set timer recording for the showing you want to record but if you want to set the recording direct from the guide then I don’t think there is anything else you can do.

I keep getting the following message when I try to watch a programme I have tried to record The message is.

Recording Failed: Unable to Track Programme.

Can someone tell me what the problem is and how I stop it.

    My model is a HDR-1800T

It might help if you give the time, date, channel and programmes concerned. It may be a failure due to the schedules being moved around at the last minute because of Football and Tennis or some other reason.

No date as to when the question was asked.

The OP said “I have recently purchased the Humax Aura” so I assume he asked the question recently.

Anyone reading the the public beta threads should be aware the enhanced feature search was added,

The OP is a new user who didn’t post his question in the beta thread.
