Occasionally when turning on I get this message, soundis working but picture is frozen. Only fix is to reboot.
Please tell us what make and model of TV (or monitor) is connected to the Aura?

It’s a new box – the signal strength on tuners 1 and 2 are 71% and 75%, and the quality is 100% on both. Nothing listed for tuner 3 (I guess because it’s not in use at the moment).
I would say the signal strength should be fine and you are correct that tuners are shut down when not in use. Maybe a silly question but have you got the HDMI cable as well separated from the aerial lead as possible? We started suffering a lot of glitches on an HDR-2000T at our holiday home; it took me a while to investigate, but when I did I found that carpet fitters had managed to tangle together all my carefully separated leads and separating them again fixed the problem. Failing that talk to Humax support or whoever you purchased the box from.

I’m wondering if the box is having a problem buffering the HD video for rewind purposes. Has anyone else seen this?
Is this a new box or second-hand? What is the signal strength and quality (as reported by the Humax) when tuned to the HD channels?

The drive was formatted (Assuming the command was carried out) bythe machine I told it to format and it took no time at all to come up as done and I mean one second or so,s so I have my doubts it did anything.
I think all the format command does is setup the filesystem (it doesn’t do any sector by sector checks) but one second does sound a bit too quick.
The model number is Seagate ST31000524A P/N -521 F/W JC4A9YP194S
I think there should be an additional 6 characters between “P/N” and “-521”?

Could it be anything to with the jumpers being in the wrong place?
Without knowing the exact drive model it is hard to be sure; the only jumper that is documented for the Barracuda 7200.12 Serial ATA limits the SATA speed to 1.5 Gb/s so if there is a jumper fitted it might be worth trying it without a jumper.

Sorry. until now I missed your question asking which drive it was “Seagate Barracuda 7200” is the answer I do not know if a 7200 drive is suitable
I would have expected it to work although it isn’t optimised for PVR usage which might result in stuttering on playback if there are any marginal sectors. Can you give the exact full model number please (should be on the label on the hard drive) just so that I can check it isn’t some unusual variant that isn’t compatible with the Humax?

I have 95% signal strength with 100% signal quality. But does that fit with the picture only freezing on some ads and trailers? Maybe the sound format issue only affects the Aura when the signal strength is too high? What do people think?
On other Humax models I would certainly suggest trying an attenuator; I am less convinced that it is helpful for the Aura, particularly for the symptoms you are experiencing. On the other hand an attenuator is cheap and at least having tried it, you could go back to them and say “your suggestion didn’t work, what other ideas do you have?”.

I have repeated the channel search several times over the last 2 days.
Can anyone let me know if the above may be caused by:
– a problem with my recorder
– a problem with my aerial etc.
– a problem with Freeview reception etc.
It could be any of the above. Are you doing an Automatic Channel Search? If so are you selecting the ‘Smart’ search option? If the answer is Yes then try without the Smart option because although it will preserve the schedule of future recordings, it is poorly implemented and often causes problems (perhaps photograph the recording schedule before starting). The signal strength and quality should be perfectly adequate but you might want to check the aerial cabling looking for kinks or poorly made joints that can cause a notch filter that removes a single multiplex.

It also proves that the Aura is at least capable (if placed into the right mode) of perfect reception which is why I am still suspecting firmware
Another possibility is a design error in the chipset that can’t be fixed by firmware. We have seen a couple of instances of that over the years on other Humax PVRs.

Yes, it will handle encrypted HD programs – just done one now.
Impressive; will the ability to decrypt HD recordings work on all models of Humax PVRs? When do you expect to release the software?

Same subject but a variation, I have just installed a Seagate 2TB in a FVP 4000.
What model of Seagate drive please?
the machine powered up and when I tried some test recordings and they were accepted and seemed to be recording, but when I tried playback It would not play and I got a message stating the files can not be played as they are the wrong format. I assume the hard drive is not formatted with the correct one FAT32 or NTFS But I don’t get an answer as to which when I google it.
The format will certainly not be FAT32 nor NTFS. I think it will probably be ext4. Try formatting it via the menus on the Humax (Freeview button> Settings> Storage). If that fails I would send the drive back to the vendor as not fit for purpose.
can confirm that the schedule shows all the programs I have recorded as series but I suppose they will not play either till the correct format is used, Am I right?
Not sure where you are looking; the schedule of future recordings is held in NVRAM so remains in place when the hard drive is changed. Th list of recordings made will show what might be playable.

Help please…. we have a Humax FVP-5000T which can be working ok and then certain channels show the message that there’s no signal or the signal is too weak. Does anyone know why this would be and what I can do to fix it please?
Please start by telling us the channel number, signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax when working OK and when when not working OK?

I am not familiar with this box, but do you maybe have to make a selection of “DVB-T2” somewhere in the menus when tuning the HD channels?
I have never owned a Humax Youview box but I have a recollection that you can’t manually tune, so it either works or doesn’t. My advice to the OP would be look carefully at the aerial lead all the way from the splitter or amplifier to the Humax. A kink in the cable or a poorly made joint can create a notch filter that removes a single channel. Also make sure the HDMI cable is well separated from the aerial cable.

Thanks. I only have HDMI input on my new TV. Could I use a SCART – HDMI converter?
You could but the picture quality might suffer.
