SD and HD. Or put it another way, everything on the old Humax.

It is easy to remove the encryption from the SD recordings either by copying to a USB attached hard drive or streaming them via the DLNA server (called “Content share” in the Internet section of Settings on the HDR-FOX T2) to a client that will capture them (either the client built into Windows 10 or VLC are obvious candidates but there are other options). The HD recordings are trickier but this Forum doesn’t allow discussion of removing the encryption; try https://hummy.tv

I have an old PVR-9200T and I would like to copy some of the recordings from it.

I tried following the instructions here, http://www.andrewdsmith.plus.com/hummy/, but could not past the Run “qmake humaxGui.pro” stage.

I also tried humaxrw, https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/humaxrw, but could not get it to work.

My best guess is that your Ubuntu is a 64 bit distribution and you don’t have the necessary 32 bit compatibility libraries installed. The Linux version of humaxrw is certainly 32 bit and something from 2006 is highly likely to be 32 bit.

Any advice on what method I should use would be greatly appreciated.

Humaxrw is probably quicker and easier but would need the IDE to USB adapter.

Also, currently I am attaching my Humax via USB cable to my Ubuntu desktop.

Would the better approach be to find a powered IDE to USB adapter? If so can anyome recommend a cheap one?

This type of adapter should do what you want https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384235394942?

Just an update, I found a superb website / shop as below & went with a yagi10k wideband aerial, I now have full coverage & excellent signal strength, result

    Excellent; thanks for updating us.

The majority will be in HD

That will be tricky. Maybe an Aura user will have some thoughts on how to do this?

Seagate Skyhawk, 4TB, Video Internal Hard Drive, 3.5

My brother has just bought the above for his FVP500, any comments regarding its suitability woud be appreciated,

Seagate Skyhawks are suitable for PVR usage; I am not sure whether the FVP-5000T will allow a drive bigger than 2TB to be formatted to its full capacity. Interested to hear how he gets on.

I’ve been trying to copy some programmes on my FVP 5000T to my HDR 2000T.

According to a helpful guy at Humax I need to use a USB stick or separate hard drive formatted to FAT32. Then plug that into the HDR and move them into the flies I use in the HDR. I’ve used a correctly formatted 32GB USB stick and the 1TB hard drive I’ve just purchased and both times, when I try to copy a programme it recognises the added memory, but I get a message saying. “Cannot copy files due to lack of storage space.” I’ve reformatted both drives and re-booted the FVP but I’m having no success.

I am puzzled that Humax suggested FAT32. Both the FVP-5000T and the HDR-2000T support NTFS for both read and write which is what I would suggest you use. Be careful that the drives must be formatted with an MBR style partition table; GPT which is the default in Windows 10 won’t work.

I’ve performed a factory reset, manual tune to the mux’s listed, but signal strength on the this mux is 50% at best whilst others are 75% plus (initially when I manually tuned the fvp5000t didn’t pick any channels up on 29 or 55). Reception checker says we’re in a Good reception area for all.

I get zero channels on 55 & poor strength on 29

The fact that 29 is the lowest frequency transmitted by Winter Hill and 55 is the highest does suggest that the problem might be that your aerial isn’t wide band.

It would be good to hear from a ‘signal expert’ about what is the best signal strength range, upper and lower for the Aura, if such a person exists.

Interesting what you say about much lower signal levels being ok as long as quality is 100%. I just don’t know. But surely you want it as high as you can get it but below 90% in the Aura?

I can’t speak for the Aura but with other Humax devices the signal strength is a secondary issue and all that matters is that the signal quality is 100%. I operated a Humax recorder for several years without problems on a 30% signal strength. With analogue broadcasts there was an advantage in having the highest workable signal strength but with digital broadcast streams, that have built in error correction, I don’t think there is much to gain by maximising signal strength.

My HDR 2000T was working great until recently. Now it just goes from power on to Humax splash screen then reboots. It never loads in the software so I can’t reset anything or even check any settings.

First thing I would try is to disconnect the hard drive and see if it boots and performs as a set top box; if it does then the issue is with the hard drive.

I did search to see if there was anything similar to my problem and tbh was disappointed that there were so many faults with the 2000T! Learned a lesson there to look a bit closer in future.

I am puzzled why you think there are a lot of faults with the HDR-2000T? Users come to this forum when they have problems but I don’t think there are significantly more issues with the HDR-2000T than other Humax boxes. Ours must be approaching 8 years old with zero problems (other than a faulty early production remote which was replaced by Humax free of charge with no fuss).

I have found how to do it now sorry :)

Might be worth outlining the procedure for anyone else who comes along with the same question.

Since writing the above I have received a new Seagate Constellation ES 2TB with the date stamp of 12062, which I think translates as manufactured in 2012 it is 7200 RPM

I came to the conclusion that buying second-hand hard drives was such a lottery that it was a waste of time after receiving three completely useless drives in a row (all went back and I got refunds). I agree with SSThing that the evidence suggests that the drives you have purchased are all faulty. It is certainly possible with the appropriate software to reset the SMART data to erase all the history of a hard drive.

Well, typical, I was going to try that and now I can’t get any channel to exhibit the pause problem 🙄 if it happens again I’ll try this.

It might have been a problem with a small are of the hard drive with a significant number of faulty sectors; hopefully they have all been mapped out now.

Hi, mactoshb again, the drive is new and came in a sealed antistatic envelope from a dealer on eBay—-I have recorded about ten full programs,

What is the date of manufacture printed on the label on the hard drive?
