Hmmm, maybe I should make copies of what is on the USB drive and try a format of it.

If you have no experience with Linux then yes that would be a reasonable thing to do.

I should clarify – I successfully transferred the same file from the Main HD to the USB one, and processed it OK with FTP.

I am slightly confused by your post; do you think the “Deleting” problem is related to the hard drive in the Humax or the USB drive? What file system is the USB drive using (FAT32, Ext3, …)?

I can also confirm that 11428 H,27500,2/3 is listed as that. On a search I get “0”. On signal strength I likewise get “no signal” .

I am almost certain that my problem is down to no 11428 being found. Yet I had until recently a Manhattan “Freesat” box working well until it burnt out. No problems using same cable input. It must have had a more sensitive tuner on the Manhattan.

I would guess that the problem is that the alignment of the dish is not correct to receive from the satellite providing 11428H.

Now if I have to send my My F V P 5000T box back to Humax I would like to transfer all my recording from the box on to a USB

in case they get lost,is it posible, any infomation will help.

If they are SD recordings it is feasible; if they are HD recordings the encryption which is specific to a particular box will not be removed when copied to the USB storage so the recordings will not be playable on a new box.

So I’m wondering how the recording is broken rather than completed and I haven’t made any comments on multi Gb files.

It could be broken because of problems with the hard drive or the file system or some glitch affecting the transfer of the data from the broadcast stream to the hard drive. I have no idea which. You have still failed to explain why you think that GB of data might be cached?

Are you going through the stop recording dialogue because that’s probably when it actually writes the file (probably in cache before).

That is the first time I have seen it suggested that recordings are not written direct to the disk (with the small amount of caching from the hard drive controller). Do you have any evidence for your suggestion and can you explain what advantage it would offer for a multi gigabyte file?

My new recorder has normal sound on all channels except HD. I am using the optical output from the recorder to a sound bar.

Not my area of expertise but try on the Humax under Settings>General Settings> Audio try experimenting with the options for S/PDIF.

The Manhattan box appeals, although the Aura enables more simultaneous recordings, which is a distinct advantage when several favoured programmes are broadcast in that 21:00 – 23:00 slot and all on the same day of the week. I almost never watch live TV, so the recording aspect is important to me. Even so, the Aura is that much more expensive…..

You have summed it up well, the Aura has more functionality but is more expensive; different people will come to different conclusions. I have an FVP-5000T and have been considering buying an Aura since it was launched but haven’t yet got to the point where I feel the need to do it.

I can play certain recordings but others don’t show the play icon

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you tried the age old method of putting the box into standby, waiting for the hard drive to stop spinning and then powering the box up gain and see if the problem persists?

If it fails to boot with the HDD disconnected does this point to a fault with the Humax box and not the HDD?

    Yes.

Presumably, whilst my program will not decrypt files on most machines, it could still be used to transfer files on any Humax that decrypts the DLNA playback.

Yes it should work fine for capturing SD programs on all of the Humax PVRs with a DLNA server (but so does the built in capability in Windows 10); my expectation is that HD Programs will only work from an HDR-1800T/2000T and an HDR-FOX T2.

so it’s time for me to switch to Freeview.

Can you tell me if there is any advantage in getting an Aura instead of an FVP-5000T? So far I think not, but I need advice, please.

The Aura has a much faster user interface and has had a lot of development work done to eliminate a lot of the bugs. The FVP-5000T is cheaper but has a significant number of irritating features. You might want to look at a non Humax box such as the the Manhattan T-3r which seems to be well thought of by its users.

Yes, it continued for probably another 30 minutes approximately.

What probably happened is C4 didn’t update the crid (that was for the Deadpool movie it was replacing) and the Humax just cut off at the scheduled movie end.

No that is simply wrong. The problem is that the FVP-4000T/5000T models do not check the metadata often enough for late changes to the broadcast schedule. It irritates me immensely that the HDR-FOX T2 does a good job of making recordings in situations where the schedule is changing close to and during a broadcast but the FVP models will just ignore the changes. I reported this to Humax a long time ago giving data for simultaneous recordings on both boxes and got an acknowledgement from Humax that the problem had been passed to the software development team but ultimately nothing happened.

And the decryption function works fine on my machine, so I guess it will work fine for lots of other people as well.

It will work for owners of the HDR-2000T and HDR-1800T and probably the HDR-FOX T2.

I am assuming my program will still copy unencrypted files from newer models, but that the decryption function will only work for older ones.

Again you seem to be a bit confused; ALL content (SD & HD) is encrypted. On most models (but not all) the SD recordings are unencrypted when exported to a USB memory stick or viewed via the DLNA server. On many Humax models the playing of HD recordings via DLNA is protected by the DTCP-IP (Digital Transmission Content Protection see http://www.dtcp.com/faq.aspx) and it is this protocol that makes decryption challenging. On the HDR-FOX T2 and HDR-1800T/2000T a single bit in the .hmt file controls whether the file can be decrypted. See this post from RAYDON in 2011 about his FOXY utility to get a better understanding of what is happening https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/foxy-an-hd-recording-backup-utility-for-the-hdr-fox-t2-now-released.240/

All that said, I am sure your utility will be very useful to owners of the appropriate Humax models.

The decryption in my program works by changing the bit in the hmt file, so you may we’ll be correct.

I think a brief read of the Forum will show you there is currently no known way of decoding HD recordings on the second generation Freesat boxes and the FVP-4000T/5000T; the Aura will allow HD recordings to be decoded but transcodes the quality down to SD.
