I think I know the reason now, Martin? Do I need to write a short program with the folder to enable it to play?
So go on tell us the reason please. Have you found something on the Internet; if so please share the link.

Maximum individual filename letters/numbers is 10.
File size and name length all seems perfectly reasonable to me. Do the photos open on other devices?

Hi, trying to view jpg photos on my HDR 1100S but although it can see my files it says the format is unacceptable. Photos are 816 x 612 pixels. I’m wondering if it is because of filename? Is there a limitation on permissible name or number of alpha-numerica letters? I transfered them to my Humax HDD in the photos folder. Is that a problem?
What is a typical file size for the photos?

I’m upgrading from my Panasonic Freeview HD PVR, and I was wondering if Humax has devices with CLM.
Please forgive my ignorance but what is CLM?

Will that be an SD version?
It is lower quality than HD; there are settings available in Settings> ‘Record & Share’ to set the bitrate, resolution and frame rate so you can optimise for the device you want to play the recording on. To me, using the settings that produce higher quality images, they look perfectly acceptable but that is certainly one of those things where everybody will have a different opinion. It isn’t perfect but is better than previous Humax boxes where HD content could only be played on the box that made the recording.

ParticipantOne other thought, it might be worth capturing the network traffic using something like Wireshark from an FVP-5000T connected to the WAN and where instant recordings fail and comparing the network traffic with an FVP connected to the WAN where the instant recordings succeed.

It sounds as if I’m barking up the wrong tree. Do you know if any EPG type information at anytime is sourced by the machine from the internet or even if it’s capable of doing so perhaps elsewhere in the world?
Let me be clear, I have no inside information on how the FV-5000T software functions. I have some knowledge of how the HDR-FOX T2 software works because of the knowledge accumulated by the developers of the custom firmware. It just seems to me that a large enough percentage of the potential users would not be expected to connect their boxes to the Internet to mean that the developers wouldn’t be able to rely on Internet based functionality. I am fairly certain that some boxes that do not comply with the Freeview Plus standard do rely on Internet supplied epg data and possibly for other functions.
Is everything scraped from OTA transmissions other than Software Updates and IPTV?
I think so but who knows.
Thanks everyone for your input into my issue, I’ll stay tuned in case there’s a breakthrough or Humax relents. In the meantime I’ll decide whether I’m going to buy an Aura or not!
I have just had eye surgery but when my eye settles down I’ll try playing about with the network settings on my FVP-5000T and see if I can induce the problem. For what little its worth, I sat on the fence about the Aura for a long time but finally took the plunge a couple of months ago and I am pleased with it. The responsiveness is much better but there are a few irritating bugs that it would be nice to see fixed by Humax.

To be honest, I’m not sure that our network arrangements have anything to do with the issue.
I am not saying that the network arrangements definitely make a difference but it remains true that instant recording works properly for me and doesn’t work for you and several others. So I am simply trying to find if there is anything obviously different.
I honestly have insufficient knowledge of how the machine works but it looks as if, when in instant record, the machine frequently poles an external database to check to see if the programme is ending earlier than scheduled, as the EPG does, and unfortunately, when able to access that database due to an active WAN connection, gets an instruction that says it has finished or misinterprets an instruction that way.
My understanding is that instant records don’t look for an end of programme signal; they should run for a fixed length of time set by the data in the epg (received via the aerial) at the time the recording is set. I assume that is why there is the option to extend the time of the recording.

Is it something that can be fixed with software or is it a hardware issue i.e. the tuners they are using?
COM7 multiplex has its own set of problems that might relate to it being broadcast on a single frequency (channel 55) across the whole country. It isn’t relevant to your case as you appear to have no access to COM7 (neither do I).

Good to hear, it’ll be interesting to see if it works for anyone else.
So if it is a networking related issue, can we establish anything that is different between the people for who it works and those who get failed recordings? I am in the it works for me camp.
I use FTTP broadband supplied by Plusnet (a trial product that isn’t generally available).
I don’t use an ISP router (I am currently using an Asus RT-68U router).
I specify a third party DNS server rather than relying on the router.
My network doesn’t use IP addresses that start 192.168
What other network parameters might conceivably be significant?
Anybody else care to share their set up?
NB I have absolutely no clue about what might be happening.

I will give that a try thank you.
How do you do manual tune of those channels specifically?
The automatic tuning is OK for the majority of the channels.
It is difficult to mix automatic and manual tuning as you aren’t deleting the incorrect multiplex. As I suggested above you might give the automatic tuning a second chance otherwise try reading the FAQ on manual tuning for the FVP-5000T which I think will be similar to the Aura. https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1 It might sound difficult but is actually fairly straightforward and with a bit of practice is quicker than an automatic tune.

Do Freesat HDDs have the capacity to be used with Freeview as well, maybe if the settings are changed?
There is a Freesat/Freeview threade but it is a few yearsw old and the internals may have changed.
I don’t know of any Humax PVRs that have that capability probably because the tuning hardware is completely different.

If I disconnect my machine from the Network, both wired and wifi of course, the instant record works perfectly again.
As a matter of interest, do you normally use WiFi or wired?

Sorry I used an arbitrary BN14 postcode but that shows me that coverage in your location isn’t straightforward.
OK I have now received the full postcode by PM and it does look as though the local transmitter (described as Whitehawk Hill by the Freeview Coverage Checker) should give good reception. Two provisos: it is a low power transmitter 4kW (as opposed to 200kW) so might be more susceptible to interference and secondly the Aura seems to have its tuning mixed up. BBC1 on multiplex channel 24 is probably from Rowridge whereas ITV on multiplex channel 35 is from Whitehawk Hill. My suggestion is that you try another automatic channel search then select BBC One (LCN 1) and do a signal test and see if the multiplex channel is 48, repeat for ITV (LCN 3) should be 35, Sky Arts (LCN 11) should be 34, Quest (LCN 12) should be 32, Yesterday (LCN 26) should be 33, BBC One HD (LCN 101) should be 36. If any of the values are wrong, the next step would be a manual tune.

If anyone has a solution I’d love to know.
I don’t think anyone has got a solution; it works perfectly for me but a number of other people have made the same reports as you about failures and I have seen enough evidence to fully believe it is a genuine problem.
