I have Just bought a second hand HDR 1800T and can get no lcd or lights on the front. Should this occur as soon as the Power Supply is plugged in???
Yes.
Should my first call be to replace the power supply, or are there other things I might check?
If you have a voltmeter check the voltage from the power supply. I think it should be 12V.

Not sure if they would, but if they did, the 5000T, at least, can be switched between 6 RC code sets. Don’t know if you can for the Aura,
Yes they do interfere with each other out of the box but you can change the remote code set on either the FVP or the Aura remote.

Just for clarity what format do I format the drive as before I reinstall into the Humax. I am using a Mac, but I think I have a choice of how to initialise/format.
It doesn’t matter what format you use (because the Humax will hopefully reformat the drive automatically when reinstalled) but you want to do what Windows calls a full format; not sure what the Mac equivalent is but if it formats the drive in a few minutes you can be pretty confident it wasn’t a full format.
I think I read somewhere that the operating software isn’t on the main storage HD.
Correct, the firmware is in flash RAM on the motherboard. The hard drive has the recorded data, the cached EPG data, time shift buffer and space for use by the various streamed content players,

(2) Can I control the unit remotely using an app on my mobile phone, e.g. set up recordings, NOT from within the vicinity of my house’s wi-fi, by instead over long distances across the country using my mobile signal?
Certainly when the boxes were launched that functionality was available. I have seen reports that it is currently a bit flaky but no harm in trying.

I want to reformat the drive but unfortunately it is saying that it can’t do this due to an unknown error. Is the only way to remove the hard drive reformat on a computer and then put back in the device.
I can’t think of any other way to do it. Whilst you have the drive removed it would be worth looking at the SMART data from the hard drive (using something like Crystal Diskinfo) to get an understanding of the health of the drive.

The model number is
HDR-FOX12
Hope this helps
Thanks. The parental guidance setting is
MENU Button> Settings > Preferences > Parental Control
and I suggest if it is anything other than set to “off” you have found the culprit.

I updated the channel list and now have to enter 4 digit code to watch a recording,
What do I do to be able to watch recordings without constantly pressing 0000,
It sounds to me as though you have inadvertently turned on “parental control” on all recordings; the fix is to turn it off again. If you can tell us which model of Humax PVR you have then more precise instructions can be provided.

Humax 2000t
Have quite a few files I cannot delete.
Try playing one of the files for a few seconds, stop it playing and then see if you can delete it.

Yes I would urge anyone having problems get the box changed via retailer or Humax as I did. Do not waste any more time trying to get it right!
https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/fragmented-picturelack-of-signal
I think that advice is a bit extreme. The symptoms can also be caused by incorrect tuning or cable/amplifier faults. If they have been ruled out then I agree that the supplier should be contacted.

At least I think I’ve found the workaround but it really needs fixing.
If you want it fixing try raising a complaint with the BBC, I think there is an online form on their website. They may may pass it on to some other organisation but usually the BBC are better than most at least giving some response to a complaint. Give as much technical detail as possible.

Now in the habit of recording some TV episodes, giving me more freedom to do other things I will look into investing in in another make.
For clarity, the only models exhibiting this problem are the 9300T and the 9150T; so you could just get a different Humax PVR.

Pretty much convinced now that the remote recording facility relies on a Humax server.
Agreed.
The Humax server gets recording requests from the Live TV app (or from the My Humax portal on a PC), then sends out instructions to the FVP for the recordings to start at the set time – except it isn’t doing this.
I think it is the other way round; the instructions are stored on the server and the FVP polls the server at specified intervals to check if there are any new requests. I take it that you have checked that the settings on the FVP for remote recording are still correct?

I am tuned to an HG multiplex but how would I know if it’s BBC B HD Multiplex?
Look it up at https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management/channel-listings-industry-professionals
Martin Liddle
ParticipantThere is a discussion going on over at hummy.tv about a somewhat similar problem that is affecting the HDR-FOX T2 and in that case the boxes affected are those that are continuously tune to the BBC B HD multiplex. Are the FVP users on this thread normally tune to HD multiplex?
