Any ideas where I can find the “best” LNB?

I am not an expert on LNBs but perhaps this article will help https://www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/how-to-pick-the-right-lnb-for-my-satellite-dish

Here lies the problem. My HD is 95% full. Apart from working through hours of recordings, is there an easy way, Networked FTP or plugging the HD into a PC and backing up that way, for example?

Are the recordings SD or HD? FTP will be fine for backing up SD recordings but I assume you are aware that you can’t put them back on the new box so that they will play via the Humax software but they should play via something like VLC. HD recordings will be a problem because of encryption unless you transcode them first to a lower resolution format.

It depends on the model and, I think, software version. One of the software versions on one of the Humax models auto-retune function would only delete the previous tuning if it found anything on an auto-retune.

Luke that is interesting; I don’t suppose you can remember which Humax models this applies to?

Full proceedure UNPLUG aerial feed from the pvr, retune channels to clear memory in tuner (could be a bug/confused etc!)

The tuning data isn’t stored in the tuner; it is held in a sqlite database. I think retuning without an aerial and deleting all channels will both produce exactly the same results. Biggles FAQ on retuning https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/week-old-9300t-and-epg-wont-fill-up-for-week#post-7097 suggests deleting all channels.

Does anyone know if any clever bods are working on ways of doing it like they have done on the older boxes? I was thinking that tweaking an Android box might be easier than some of the older boxes.

I am not aware of anybody seriously looking at custom firmware for the Aura. I agree that being based on Android might well make things easier. I think people who want non encrypted HD recordings are tending to look at things like HDHomeRun tuners and non Freeview certified recorders.

Has anyone had this before? I have seen it before and it does start to mess with multiple recordings as the box fails to record everything as it seems to lose access to all three tuners. Not sure if this a hardware or firmware issue. I don’t think it is operator error!

I haven’t seen that error and I don’t remember it being reported here previously. IF you have only seen it once then I would assume it is a Humax quirk.

Also, has anyone managed to figure out ways of accessing HD recordings yet like with the 2000T, Fox T2 and Foxsat boxes etc?

Please don’t ask the same question twice in different threads.

Wondering if there is any work being done to be able to copy HD recordings in a non-encrypted format? I’ve used the solutions on the HDR-2000Ts and Foxsat boxes but would love to be able to copy the Aura recordings too.

I take it that you are aware that out of the box, you can convert HD recordings to a lower resolution format that can be downloaded? Neither of the solutions you mention will work on the Aura and I don’t know of any way to get the HD recordings without encryption.

Have you installed VLC on the Aura and tried playing the files with that?

II have copied a couple of files from my old HDR FOX T2 to a USB, using the FOX’s in-built menu commands. These do seem to play OK, using VLC on a PC. I am assuming, therefore, that the encryption has been removed.

    Good.

So, now I want to move them back onto my new Aura. However, wherever I put them (Using FileZilla from the PC) on the Aura, they don’t show up when I click on the ‘recordings’ button on the remote – the menu only shows me the items recorded by the Aura itself.

I don’t think any body has found a way to do that

Browsing the folder structure, it looks a bit of a nightmare and I still have no idea how I can make my own folders so that I can keep my files organised the way I want (e.g., a folder called ‘Films’ etc). Even if I can do this, will they show up in the Aura’s ‘recordings’ section?

I would speculate that the problem might be that the Aura doesn’t use the sidecar files that most of the earlier Humax recorders use. This makes me think that the information for recordings it makes is held in a database and if this is true, I don’t see how you can enter information into the database to make the external recordings visible along with the native recordings.

I would say that around 30% of my recordings re start fro the beginning when using the skip function.

Are you watching recordings that are still in progress or recordings that have completed?

Thanks, I have hardly any HD recordings due to disk-space considerations. I’m not sure I’ve fully understood you when you say: “With SD content you can remove the encryption by copying to SD storage.”.

Sorry my mistake; trying to do too many things at once. What I meant to say was “With SD content you can remove the encryption by copying to USB storage.” ie you plug in a USB memory stick or USB hard drive to the HDR-FOX T2 and copy the content on to the USB storage. There are faster and easier ways to do it but they are outside the scope of this forum.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I wasn’t aware that they were encrypted. In the case I mentioned above, the ‘film’ was just a recording of one shown on terrestrial TV some time back. So – is the encryption something the Fox would have applied to the files? I don’t see that mentioned in its manual.

Yes the HDR-FOX T2 and many (but not all) of the Humax recorders will encrypt all SD and HD content with a key that is unique to the particular box. With SD content you can remove the encryption by copying to SD storage. There is a lot of knowledge about encryption on the HDR FOX T2 but discussion of removal of encryption from HD recordings is frowned upon on this forum. Pop over to https://hummy.tv for more information.

As far as I can see the Aura does not encrypt SD recordings.

I repeated this process a couple more times, using different folders, but I’ve been unable to locate my files on the Aura. I then installed VLC player on the Aura, and, although I could then find my transferred files, the VLC player doesn’t seem to want to play them. I should mention here that these files are SD, not HD.

So what steps did you take to remove the encryption (both SD and HD are encrypted) from the HDR-FOX T2 files before transferring them to the Aura?

Hi I can use AV button to see source but how do you select 1 pressing ok does nothing.

For me, each press of the AV button moves a highlight over a potential source. When the required source is highlighted then pressing OK will cause the TV to connect to that source.
