I have Humax Aura box I have the same issue no subtitles on commercial tv stations but ok on BBC channels… My Toshiba TV shows subtitles ok there and my other humax youview box shows subtitles ok….. i wonder if theres a software issue?

Clearly it is a software issue, the question is whether the broadcaster has changed something so that the meta data doesn’t conform to the standard or whether the Humax can’t cope with the change. Personally it doesn’t bother me as most content I watch is recorded and the subtitles work. I suggest you report the problem to ITV and Humax. The more complaints they get, the more likely they are to do something about it.

Just tried mine and have subtitles on the following SD channels

    0001 0002 0003 011

So looks like the main three have them, but not on 0004 or 0005

I have just checked and I don’t have subtitles on 0003 (ITV1 SD) on live TV but they are present on recordings. I receive from the Chesterfield transmitter. Could you check channel 0003 again please?

It boots up OK when the Hard drive is disconnected.

I’ve seen other posts saying replacing the hard drive with a new one won’t fix the issue.

Have you actually tested the hard drive?

I haven’t got anyway of connecting it to anything else at the moment, to test it

A USB to SATA adapter is the cheapest way of doing it; note you would need one with a 12V power supply. Something like this will do the job https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Adapter-Converter-Standard-supports/dp/B08Q3932NM/ref=sr_1_5?crid=27ORT8XL6G9GZ

You might want to read this thread https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/humax-hdr-1000s-not-recognising-hard-drive about using a heat gun to resuscitate faulty boxes with a heat gun. In my view the explanation of “resets the hard drive overload in the humax chip” makes no sense but for several people the heat gun does seem to have been beneficial.

Are just the HD recordings encrypted? ie, If I put my hard drive in another box,is there a chance the SD recordings will play?

Let me try again, in post #2 I said “all recordings are encrypted” and yes that means both HD and SD. Some Humax models do not encrypt SD recordings but the FVP-4000T/5000T certainly do. if the box is usable the encryption on SD recordings can be removed by copying to USB storage or capturing the DLNA stream.

If this works you may be able to play the SD recordings, I have never tried this so can’t speak from experience

On the FVP-4000T/5000T the recordings are encrypted so this simply will not work.

I can certainly play SD recordings from my 5000T on my Aura connected via ethernet, as I described earlier in my post.

Agreed but that is using the DLNA server on the FVP. The OP reports “no lights on box at all”; I very much doubt that the DLNA server will be functional.

As for popping the HD into an enclosure and seeing if the Aura can play the 4000T/ 5000T SD recordings

via USB using VLC or similar I don’t know as I have not had any cause to try this method, but thought I would it include it

It is well known it won’t work because of the encryption so why suggest something you haven’t even tried? Note that as far as I am aware the Aura doesn’t encrypt SD recordings so it should be possible to play SD recordings from the hard drive of an Aura on other devices.

yes everything returned to normal after “it happened again for a second or two then returned to normal

It might have been outside interference of some sort; I wouldn’t be too concerned at this stage but do come back to us if the problem becomes more frequent.

I’ve taken the box apart and removed the HD hoping to be able to save my recordings by putting the HD into another Humax box, obviously I’m preferring an FVP 4000t but to widen my possibilities, maybe an FVP 5000t (second hand ebay or FB Market Place)

Just wondering if this plan has a chance of working or will a different box want the HD reformatting.

Sorry but your plan has no chance of working as all recordings are encrypted with a key that is unique to a particular box. Your only chance of retrieving the recordings is to get the old box working again.

We have had the DVR-5000T for about 2 years no problems. Now we have an issue where on playback of a recording playback would stop multiple times throughout the recording. Each time we notice a pixelated band appear momentarily on the recording each time the playback stops.

It could be an issue with the hard drive; best way to find out is to take the hard drive out, connect it to a PC and use something like Crystal Diskinfo to look at the SMART data. We can help with interpreting the SMART data.

So if I unplug my existing one, to change across to the new one, will the recording definitely remain on the old one?

As far as I know then yes it will remain until there is a component failure.
