We’ve 2 rather elderly Humax boxes – HDR 2000T and HDR Fox T2. Both are set up to record the same programs. Have learnt by experience that for them to record and playback accurately it’s a good idea to reset to defaults and retune every year or so.
For what little it is worth, my boxes very rarely get a rest to defaults but do get an occasional retune when there are significant changes to the EPG (I don’t bother with the endless changes to minor channels that I am unlikely to ever watch).
Recently despite a retune and reformat the 2000T has missed a couple of recordings (BBC2 and Ch5) with the recording in media as ‘0 minutes’ whereas the Fox T2 has recorded them fine.
Really difficult to speculate based on those incidents. You might try doing a manual tune on the HDR-2000T to ensure it is receiving from a single transmitter see https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/transmitters#post-2336
Also on rewind the recordings can stop on x2 and we have to keep pressing the rewind button to x4 & x16 before it will move. The picture is then pixellated on rewind but not on forwards. Have also had issues with both when a recording will play but won’t rewind or fast forward – just get the circle with a line through in top RH corner.
Do the skip forward and backward buttons work? I find the much more convenient to use in general.
Are these machines getting past their use by date.
There are plenty of both models still in active use although there are an increasing number of reports about hardware related issues with the HDR-FOX T2 simply due to age. I expect the reports for the HDR-2000T will begin to ramp up in the next year or two.

This includes the irritating habit of the Aura to start up on the Home Screen instead of Live TV.
I think you probably will still see this happening but very infrequently.

It is when using the All4 App. I don’t know if there is mileage in that? Is the App causing the operating system a headache and boom ….
I would say it is highly likely that the App is causing the problem. I would try reporting the problem to them; viewerenquiries@channel4.co.uk is the contact address listed on the All4 website.
In my view, a lot of the reported Aura crashes are related to apps and the rather obsolete version of Android used by the Aura may be partly responsible.

How do I do this?
I’ve looked through the settings but can’t seem to find anything labelled ‘Bluetooth’.
I think you want the last option in the settings “Remotes and accessories” which opens a Bluetooth pairing screen. Please let us know how you get on.

Apart from that the app worked fine and I returned home to find that all the recordings were present and correct.
I am glad that worked out pretty well. I take it you are now a convert to not putting the box into deep standby?

Do you know of any new Humax satellite receiver which uses GPT and will allow external drives to be added say up to 32 TBytes in the future.
Humax lost the contract to produce Freesat boxes so there is no Humax box that will meet that requirement. There is a 4K Freesat box produced by Arris but I know nothing about it. There are threads about it over at DigitalSpy and AVForums so it might be worth asking in those forums about GPT support. Another alternative might be a non Freesat satellite box; somebody popped up on another forum recently and recommended the Zgemma H9. NB I know nothing about this box or non Freesat satellite receivers in general; you certainly won’t get the Freesat EPG. However it does use the Linux operating system so I think there is a very good chance that it will support GPT drives. You will have a lot to learn. Do your homework and buy from a supplier such as Amazon with the ability to return if not suitable if you go down this route.

It’s a FVP-5000T which is about a couple of years old. All I’ve done is do a manual retune
First thing I would try is to use the TV remote (not the Humax remote) to turn up the volume.

Do you think I can format my 8Tbyte drive as 4 x 2Tbyte MBR style partitions ?
If I can how would the box see each partition ?
I am very doubtful that it would work but partitioning is a dark art and you need to find a forum with partitioning knowledge to get a definitive answer.

The Freesat box does not recognise the drive, any ideas e.g.
Is there a partition limit of say 2TB and if so can I partition the drive as 4 x 2 TBytes
The problem is that as far as I know, the Foxsat will only recognise an MBR style partition table which is limited to 2TB and to format an 8TB drive you must have used a GPT style partition table.
Would ext4 work ?
No.

I reckon it’s a hardware component or hardware design issue. To fix this would require a recall and rework on existing Aura boxes.
What hardware component do you think is associated with what problem?

It really makes me wonder if the issues that are still to be fixed, just can’t be by a firmware update, and they just won’t tell us that?
I am pretty sure that most of the issues that irritate me are software issues and could be fixed if Humax dedicated the necessary resources. My guess is that the Humax management don’t think the PVR market place is big enough in the UK to justify more financial commitment.

ParticipantThanks. The user manual suggests that the SLx can supply power to a masthead amplifier but the power would be on the aerial in socket. https://www.philex.com/products/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/27820R-4-way-Aerial-distribution-amplifier.pdf Does that throw any light on the problem?

Finally found a valid address and email them.
For a large tech firm, their online presence is awful.
This page on the Humax UK website has the details https://uk.humaxdigital.com/contact-us/

Just set the Humax box up on another TV,
No message now, so it looks like the problem is possibly the ariel feed on the other TV?
Anyone?
I think you have demonstrated that the problem is with that aerial feed. I think you said you have a four way amplifier but are using only three of the outlets. Try connecting the problem feed to the unused output and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn’t then you need to examine the run of the aerial cable to see if there is anywhere that the voltage is being injected. Also it might help if you could give us the model number of the SLX.

Are these forums monitored by official sources ?
I certainly wouldn’t rely on it; notify Humax of the problem directly. My impression is that the volume of complaints they get about an issue has some influence on what they are prepared to do about it.
