The next suggestion was to purchase at my own expense a cable (an RS232 serial cable) that was not supplied with the Humax and use a Windows XP PC or older (I have only Windows 7 which Humax do not support!), to upgrade from software version PGXTF 1.00.21 to “the latest version” whatever that may be.
I agree with the suggestion that this is probably a software issue and updating to 1.00.23 is likely to fix it. Flash9200 will run under Windows 7 and the necessary hardware would only cost a few pounds; see Link to Flash9200

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, being over 70, there is no way I would be able to sort that so it’s on with the motley!
It really isn’t that difficult (and you aren’t that many years older than me). If you supply your postcode then we can tell you the channel numbers to use.

Is there any way I can force the box to move the Anglia programmes to 1,2,3,4,etc?
You need to do a manual tune. These are some instructions I knocked up but are probably not perfect:
1.Go to https://www.freeview.co.uk/help scroll down to the “Check Freeview at my home” section and input your postcode and house number. When the initial results appear, scroll down past the available channel icons and you should find a “Detailed view” button. Click it to get the results that are useful for tuning purposes. Look carefully at the information returned for each transmitter; don’t blindly accept the recommendation for the most likely transmitter. You are looking for the single transmitter that will give you the best signal strength across the range of multiplexes you wish to receive.
2.Having decided on a transmitter, note down the broadcast channel numbers for the available multiplexes (shown in the white column headed N (the N is white on a black circular background)). Carefully mark which one of these channel numbers carry the HD multiplexes (at the time of writing these are BBC B HD, COM7 HD and COM8 HD); you can check by hovering the mouse over the channel number; if the popup says DVB-T2 it is an HD multiplex (although it may carry some SD channels) otherwise it will say DVB-T and it is an SD multiplex.
3. On the HDR press Menu>Settings>Installation. You will be prompted for a password which defaults to 0000.
4. Select Automatic search for channels and immediately stop it; save the results. This deletes all previously found channels.
5. Select Manual search. In the Channel field press right arrow, scroll up or down and select the first channel number from your list. In the Transmission field leave it on the default DVB-T for all the SD channels. For the HD channel it must be changed to DVB-T2. Press Search. This should find a number of channel names. Save the results. If you find zero channels go back and make sure you have the Transmission field set correctly and if not repeat the search.
6. Repeat the manual search for each channel previously noted.
7. You will then need to re-enter your schedule of recordings.
Edited by Admin 13/11/19 to reflect changes due to a merger between the Digital UK and Freeview web sites. Thank you Martin for drawing this to our attention.
Corrections gratefully received (perhaps this could become a FAQ) and I acknowledge the prior work of Biggles on manual tuning the 9200/9300.

After formatting, decided to look for new channels (a couple more porn and shopping it seems). That went fine, but then the EPG took far longer to load than normal, don’t know if that’s related. Will see tonight I guess if it’s a one-off.
That is expected with software version 1.00.23. Once it has populated the EPG initially (which could take some time) it will be stored to disk and retrieved when the box restarts.

Where do you set “Server Capability Enabled”
I have set “Share Content to – “On” FTP to “On”
Sorry “share Content on” will enable the server capability. Sorry I am out of ideas.

Refering to the definition “Servers” in documentation that I have seen it states the the Humax HDR-Fox T2 cannot be a “Server” only a “Client” can this be the source of the problem???
Which documentation are you reading? The server capability was only added at version 1.00.20 in July. I assume both boxes have 1.00.20 and have the server capability enabled?

The bad thing is, didn’t want to format, but needs must, I guess. How long do the discs last before failing; it doesn’t seem very long? Or is it more a case that most of them live a long time, but that a few will give up after 3 or 4 years?
Nobody wants to format but in this case nothing else will fix the problem. The disk manufacturers statistics would suggest a few percent failure per year. In the real world I would suggest a failure rate might be closer to 10% per year so after 4 years of use I would expect 30 to 40% of disks to have failed but my statistics are based on a very small sample so may be complete nonsense.

By ‘800 range’ do you mean the channel number? I have an aerial, not a dish, and the TV channels go up to about 120 or so.
Yes he meant the channel range. If the box finds channels from more than one transmitter then it will place the first instance it finds in the normal numbering range and the second instance on a channel number above 800. If you have no channels above 800 then that indicates the box is correctly tuned. I will say again your problem is a classic case of a corrupt file system and you need to format the hard disk drive. If you delay then ultimately all recorded programs will vanish.

Also, if 2 items are recorded at the same time, one doesn’t show on ‘recorded programmes’ until the other is deleted. But, it has the letterbox logo, and won’t play.
Also also, I have 2 or even 3 copies of the very same item on ‘recorded programs’. When this happens, if I delete 1, they all disappear.
In my opinion what you are describing are the classic signs of the file system being corrupt (which is a very well known problem). The fix is to watch any recorded programs and then format the disk from the HDD control menu. This should fix the problem but if it reoccurs quickly then it could indicate that the hard disk is failing.

Software is UPTTF 1.00.18 I have tried to update to .26 but no new update found
The update is not broadcast continuously; the next date is 26th September (from 10am) to 28th September (until 9am). It should help with your problem.

I haven’t got a spare port on the router, so will have to get another one.
You could put in a switch which would be cheaper; unplug one of your existing devices from the router and connect it to the switch; run a cable from router to switch; plug Humax into switch. Job done. A suitable switch might be Link to switch on Amazon. This would leave you three spare ports for other equipment.

No joy though it only ‘saw’ the three programmes recorded after the ‘lock up’ problem.
I am guessing that you missed the significance of the phrase “recovery mode” in my post. If you don’t use recovery mode ( -r command line option) then you won’t see the lost programs. Too late now; so near and yet so far.

The router was originally supplied by Talk Talk but that must be some 2 to 2 1/2 years ago.
Will try as you suggest discuss with them, nothing to loose.
I suggest you raise the matter on the TalkTalk members Forum at
http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37 (that is the Broadband Connection and Stability section). It is monitored by TalkTalk UK staff and I have found them knowledgeable and helpful. I suggest you explain the problem and mention that it has been suggested that the routers UPnP implementation is at the root of your problems and that you would like to try a different router. Don’t expect an instant answer as the staff only work 9 to 5, Monday to Friday but I think you will get a better response than by ringing technical support. Good luck.

Martin – I suspect that you are right, all the problems I think must be centered on the Router!
If I were to get a new one what make / model would you recommend?
Did you buy your existing router or did it come from your ISP? If the latter then It might be worth discussing the problem with them and see if they will send you a new router of a different type free of charge. We are with TalkTalk and they are prepared to do this sort of thing.

if I can’t recover 9200T recorded programs that have vanished, even though only 20% disc space free!
The only reliable way to get them back is to open the box, connect the disk drive drive and use Humaxrw in recovery mode: see http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/HumaxRW
