Hi, since the upgrade on 9th Nov (i am in Eastern Region) I retuned my 9200T humax box. Channels ok – but none of my recordings will play – they show in the list, but when I press play there is a short delay then black screen. 19% free on HDD so they are there.

Hard to be sure but my best guess would be that the file system is corrupt; the fix is to format the drive from the HDD control menu but this will of course delete your recordings. I suggest wait and see if anybody else has a less destructive suggestion.

Only possible on a box with a cached epg. The complete data starting from scratch takes around 15 mins to get to where you started. A few boxes like the Topfield can speed it up by using two tuners but even then the theoretical best time is 7 to 8 minutes.

Are you sure about that? I recollect TallDave (who seems very knowledgeable) had stated over on DigitalSpy (some time ago so it may have changed) that the complete EPG was broadcast in less than 5 minutes.

    It’s a HDR Fox T2.

When it is recording one program are you able to watch (via the box) any channel or is the choice of channels available limited? If so then the most likely explanation is that a tuner is faulty and you should contact Humax.

I have several months of recordings on my 9200T and the HDD control shows 39.9% free (so 60.2% used) but I cannot see any of the recordings in the recorded programs list. Also it is not now recording any new programs. Is there any way to recover what is lost or do I have to re-format ?

The only reliable way to recover the recordings is to open the box, attach the disk to a PC and use humaxrw, see http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/HumaxRW NB in these circumstances humaxrw must be used in recovery mode (-r command line option). After recovering required programs reconnect to the Humax and format the disk.

not shore what you mean by HD mux,

You must be in a region that is currently receiving High Definition (HD) broadcasts; i.e. Post Digitial Switch Over (DSO).

but have noticed the green screen flash when the box is syncing with the tv.

I think that is normal; certainly we see it from time to time.

Somebody over on DigitalSpy had exactly this problem with an LG TV and fixed it by upgrading the TV firmware. Might be worth checking if there is a firmware update for your TV.

The HDR is running version 1.02.20 (came with it pre-loaded). I changed the IP addresses to 198.162.1.10 and (.11 for the gateway) to avoid conflict with other devices on the network.

    1) When I select the Humax TV portal option it says ‘connecting..’ but eventually times out saying it failed to launch the portal application followed by a URL. Any ideas what causes this and what I need to do to fix it.

Try putting the box into standby, turn it off at the mains and then restart it.

    2) The HDR says connected to the network and selecting ‘Network’ on my PC shows an icon labelled ‘HDR-FOX T2 Media Server’ but I don’t seem to be able to get access to the files on the hard disk. (Should I be able to!). I would like to FTP soem of them them to a backup.

Have you used an FTP client (Filezilla is free if you need one)?

It seems to me that the safe thing to do would be to change the frequency for the FOXSAT because we know the procedure works.

There may not be many people in this forum with the Humax 5050 but there might be one or two with 2 Humax boxes in the same room. I just wanted to check whether what I am thinking of doing makes sense, or if there is another way.

    Perhaps this FAQ helps http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/multi-code-function-hdhdr-remote

“Using Ubuntu 9.02 Live CD, I was able to boot up my HTPC (which has an eSATA port at the front and at the back) and connect the internal HDR’s HDD to the front eSATA port to transfer recordings to my external HDD drive.”

That is referring to the modification applied to a FOXSAT HDR whcich like the other current Humax HD models uses Linux EXT3 file system. I will say again that the Humax 9300 uses a similar file system to the 9200; see the note against version1.14 of HumaxRW HumaxRW

I haven’t yet tried it with our newer 9300 but I also understand that it uses a Linux FS

To the best of my knowledge it doesn’t use a Linux file system.

Another thing to try with the 9300 would be to download and burn a Linux “Live CD” such as OpenSuSE 11.4 – KDE Live

What do you think that will achieve?

If you check this – 9300T / 9150T mods at humaxDisk, the problem is that with these using SATA drives rather than EIDE, and a Linux file system rather than DOS, the old 9200 mod doesn’t work.

What makes you think it is a Linux file system? As far as I am aware it is Humax proprietary and very similar (but not identical to the 9200). Humaxrw will read and write to it.

I will probably add Raydon’s bundle as I am used to extra software on the Toppy. The option of taking out the encryption swayed me toward the Freeview Humax instead of the Freesat version

Careful. Raydon’s bundle is specific to the Freesat model.
