If it’s not the hard disk, could it be a software issue corrupting the recording? Heat related, it’s well-ventilated but these units do run a bit hot?
Have you considered the possibility of interference? What is the signal strength and quality as reported by the Aura when tuned to Channel 4 and Channel 5HD?

Does the Aura have these tuning problems too or have I just been unlucky and should just get another 5000T?
I don’t recollect any tuning problems with my FVP-5000T providing the Smart tune option is off and I have been really pleased with the tuning on the Aura. If you favour the FVP-5000T I think you should try getting the box replaced. Personally I prefer the Aura but it certainly has some issues that are irritating.

Okay, cannot see any partitions, guess need to get some kind of software Windows based that can run Linux and go from there?
I have just connected a hard drive removed from a Humax HDR-FOX T2 to a Windows 11 computer and using the Disk Management tool I can see all three partitions. I can’t access any content but I could delete the partitions if I wanted. If you are not familiar with the Disk Management tool, right click on the start button and select Disk Management.

Problem is that I cannot get at it too format, it see’s the drive but does nothing else, device manager recognises it, even uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. Tried all the usual Disk Management stuff, as well as trying to access through DOS. Is Humux used Linux operating system?
Yes the Humax uses Linux. The Humax will have partitioned the drive with an MBR style partition table. Have you tried deleting all the partitions?

On a few random mornings we have found that the Sony TV has turned on by itself. When this happens, the Aura box is running too, so I assume that the Humax box has turned itself on, and then the TV.
However, disabling the function that turns the TV on automatically with the Humax power-on button has not solved the issue.
I have seen this a few times but not recently. I agree that the Aura will be culprit. Are you using normal standby or deep standby?

It is a foxsat HDR.
Thank you.
Admin, please could this post be moved into the FOXSAT section of the Forum to attract the attention of the FOXSAT users.

We have Freesat not Freeview, so I would go satellite receiver.
It is the model we need. Is it a FOXSAT-HDR or a Freesat HDR-1000S or an HDR-1010S or an HDR-1100S?

Have uploaded a photo. It is a TVtech Humax compatible remote
You uploaded a link. The link is for an HB-1100S remote. Is your box a satellite Freesat receiver rather than Freeview?

Bad enough it randomly reboots when turned on (sometimes daily, sometimes not for a week).
I take it that you are aware the Aura reboots on startup every 4 days by design?
but to do so when in use… Not seen that before. Anyone else?
I see an occasional reboot when in use.

I have a 500GB external drive connected.
When I’m browsing my recordings it tells me 3% available.
When I view the disk in Settings>Storage it tells me 50GB available.
Why is there such a large discrepancy and which number is correct?
I don’t know for certain but Linux reserves 5% of the storage space for use by user “root”; different routines will include or exclude the 5% figure. Also you have the problem of not knowing whether the calculation are being done in GB or GiB. Interesting to hear from other users of the HB-1100S whether they see the same issue?
I was wondering whether the disk has become fragmented after 3 years of use.
I don’t think fragmentation is the issue.

My Humax remote got eaten by my dog, so had to buy a new remote, but it is not a Humax remote. It has no opt+ button and I would like to delete old programming I schedule. Is there another way to delete them.
Which model of Humax box do you have please?

So I’ve come on here to see what I can do and it seems that I need to do an automatic retune without doing the smart option. Will I only lose my scheduled recordings ie it won’t delete my existing recordings will it?
Correct; existing recordings will be preserved.

While it was not working I could not pause TV suggesting the box could not access the disk.
Thanks for explaining; I agree there must be an issue with accessing the hard drive. There has been recent discussion concerning several different Humax models having problems accessing the hard drive and one suggestion is that contamination on the SATA connectors is to blame. Next time this happens you might want to open the box and have a careful look at both ends of the SATA cable.

What fixed it was deleting some recordings to free us space on the disk. I only had about 20 hours HD space and that seemed to be causing the problem. Once I had 40 hours HD space all was well.
If the box was reporting no recordings how did you delete recordings?
