It shows as being recorded but nothing there when I check

I would guess that the most likely cause is that the file system is corrupt. The easiest fix is to format the drive from the HDD control menu; this will of course delete all recordings.

I’ve tried to upload the hdf file via RS232 cable and it just doesn’t seem to be able to establish a link to the serial port on the back of the PVR. I’ve verified the cable as best I can using the upload software (and connected the paperclip at the pvr end of the cable) and the software reports the cable looks OK.

I assume you are using Flash9200. The cable test will check the continuity of the cable and the functionality of the adapter. The usual problem when the cable test passes but communication cannot be established is that the cable is of wrong the type and does not have the required crossover from pin 2 at one end to pin 3 at the other end (and vice versa for pin 3 to pin 2). Where did you obtain the cable? Do you have a manufacturer part number or description that we can check?

Have you checked that the box is correctly tuned? The presence of channels above 800 is one sign of incorrect tuning. If necessary do a manual tune using the instructions in this thread: http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/9200t-not-recording

Should I try returning to default settings( eg as new ..says Cambs and Beds which I assume is Sandy Heath)?

If you haven’t done a default settings since acquiring the box then that would definitely be a good first step and I would also suggest formatting the drive from the HDD control menu.

I have a sign in the top left of the screen, which says “AV1 input” and as the TV is in a bedroom with only a 20″ screen, I find this message a bit of a distraction.

The message is coming from the TV not the Humax.

the installation menu is greyed out so I cannot select it.

Is the box recording (the installation menu will be grayed out when it is)? If not put the box into standby, when the disk has stopped spinning turn off the mains power, count to twenty and then turn on the mains power and see if the installation menu is now available.

please point me in the direction of the modding software and it’s details. def. interested in pushing the box to the max.

Try starting at http://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Main_Page#VFAQ but the pace of development has been ferocious and the documentation struggles to keep up.

Watching bbc1, switched over to bbc1HD which I was recording to rewind to the start, got bored and tried to watch another recording and got the scrambled message for everything in the media folder.

We had another occurence of this last night. The box was making two recordings (BBC2 and Channel 4+1) and playing back a recording made earlier. 34 minutes into the playback we got the scrambled message and no other recordings would play. According to the user interface the two recordings were still proceeding but looking this morning they both stopped at (or about) the scrambled message. After a bit of fiddling I stopped the recordings; put the box into standby and then power cycled the box. Normal functionality was resumed. Currently running standard firmware but I do intend to install the custom firmware this week to allow me to back up the recording schedule and for the new maintenance mode.

Was there an update recently as we now have picasa on our media options. Have any MUX changes been made?

Humax can change available content on the portal at will without there necessarily being any other changes.

We have seen this problem twice in 12 months of ownership.

My Humax does not run the new update from my USB stick, I have followed the instructions to the word and tried two different USB sticks.

The most common update problems are a) using the wrong update file (HDR instead of HD) b) not unzipping the file (if downloaded as a zipped file) c) not renaming the file correctly. I take it that none of those apply to you?

But last night I was stuck with an error message saying that I could not change channels while recording (why not I asked myself) – does this suggest a fault with the machine?

I doubt it but you should monitor the situation.

I thought I understood the 2 Mux thing but last night about 9pm I had the Yesterday channel and BBC 1 HD recording at the same time.

That would certainly significantly limit your choice of channel.

I’m sure this limitation didn’t affect me on the old 9200 or is my addled brain remembering wrongly?

Your brain is remembering wrongly (or there is something wrong with your box). If any twin tuner PVR is recording from two channels on different multiplexes then the choice of channels to watch live will be limited to those from the multiplexes being recorded. Perhaps you could tell us what channels were being recorded so that we can check that you don’t have a faulty tuner?

I can get remote working for a time sometimes 1hour,but if I then go into standby it locks again and I have to switch off for another hour or two and repaeat the reset. Are any other 9200T affected.

I am not aware of similar reports. You might try opening the box (with the power off) and disconnecting the hard drive. If the box then behaves properly (as a set top box) the problem is with the hard drive; if it still gives problems then it could be a hardware problem with the power supply or the mother board or an unusual software problem.
