I tried manually tuning as per the link many times, however I still cannot receive freeviews channels from VHF 31. Sandy Transmitter is where we are pointing our aerial. Channel 31 appears to be a BMUX on this transmitter so not sure if this is messing up things.
I have no idea what a BMUX is? According to ukfree.tv Sandy Heath is currently transmitting at very low power on channel 31 which may explain your problem. All I can currently suggest is you wait for the switch to channel 51 on the 9th May.

I have the Humax PVR 9150T – 160GB Digital TV Recorder Twin Tuner
A suitable disk drive is the Western Digital Caviar AV WD1600AVJS. Unfortunately these are currently expensive because of the floods in Thailand where they are made. Typical cost for a new one is currently about £65 to £70 but I would expect that to halve in three months time. However there is an eBay seller offering drives that he claims are essentially new for £39.90 with free delivery see Link to eBay

thanks for such a fast reply. Sorry for the confusion over model numbers.
Don’t worry it happens all the time but as there are crucial differences it is important to clarify at the outset.
But if I then copy recordings to an external USB drive from the HDR, are you saying I can only view SD recordings and not HD ones ? And that I can then view these SD recordings using other hardware, such as a laptop and/or a suitable TV ?
Yes you can view the recordings on a PC using a suitable player such as VLC or Splash. You need to research whether the recordings will play on a particular device but they will play on many other devices.
Do I also understand you correctly that the HD ones be transferred but cannot be read by any other hardware/software combination ?
There are ways of viewing the HD recordings but you are then getting into slightly choppy waters about DRM issues. If you want to understand the possibilities then you need to head over to hummy.tv as such discussions are frowned on in this Forum.

well i carried out another default setting and it only worked for an hour then the unit has froze again – i think your right about the hard drive, will this be expensive to replace and does anyone know where to get them from,
I don’t think you have said what model of Humax you own and the answer is model dependant.

I’m thinking about upgrading to the HD-FOX T2 with 1tb disk.
Do you mean HD-FOX T2 (which uses an external USB drive for recording) or the HDR-FOX T2 which has an internal drive like the 9200T? All content on the HD is encrypted and it is not particularly straight forward to persuade the HD to remove the encryption. With the HDR the encryption for standard definition recordings can be removed by simply copying to an attached USB drive.

so i did this and it seemed fine, however a few hours later it started crashing with the error message – Hard Disc Error and kept switching off and rebooting itself back on again and continued to do this every 5mins. I now have the inital problem of not being able to press buttons on my remote or the unit and it doesnt give me enough time to try and do another software update as it just freezes.
when i first updated the software and defaulted the setting was i supposed to search for the update again?
No; the update will not be affected by carrying out a default settings. I would try another reset to default settings but you may have a hardware problem that will not be foxable without replacing something (possibly the hard disk). Let us know what happens after the new default settings.

You’ve just interrupted me composing my competition entry, you’d think Humax would have given me a FOX for providing a simple repair for all their duff 9200s and maintaining their good name, lick lick.
😉
Not a chance. I think you will find that my flash9200 software has saved Humax a fortune in reduced support costs whereas your clock board problem fix has merely deprived them of sales revenue for replacement clock boards so clearly my competition entry is more deserving

do you not think that formatting the drive with windows will sort issue out?
I think formatting it with Windows is a good idea. The hang at boot time is usually associated with a minor corruption of the file system but I guess there must be a possibility that the USB mod is causing the problem.

will it all be the same with the external hard drive as i will have the hd and and not the hdr….
There are two fundamental differences between the HD and HDR. The HD model does not have any native capability to unencrypt recordings, neither SD nor HD; the HD does not have a DLNA server but the HDR does.

You cannot record to is straight from the box you record to the internal drive first then use the move/copy to move anything you wish to keep.
The title says HD-FOX T2; are you saying that you have an HD (rather than an HDR) with an internal drive?

I’ve copide a lot of .ts, .epg, etc files but cannot accessthe .hre files.
Understand that I need to use ts2hrw to create .hre files.
Greatful for info on wher I can get this and how to use it.
ts2hrw comes as part of the humaxrw package, see http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/HumaxRW

ParticipantThis is a well known problem with the HD and HDR and occurs when a recording exceeds 4GB. Humax are aware of the problem and I assume a software fix will appear at some point but I have no idea when.

I’m not fussed if the T2 can play media from a media server on my network, more that the wife can watch her recording of Corrie, upstairs, without multiple Humax’s in every room, from the T2
Can this/will this work? I would like to know before I buy the T2
The HDR has a DLNA server but not all devices can play output from the HDR; High Definition recordings are particularly difficult. The most reliable solution at the moment is to use an HD-FOX T2 (which is much cheaper than the HDR) as the client. If you list the exact make and model of the existing devices then other people may be able to say whether they are known to work (or not work).

Am I missing something fundamental here as each time I try to play the ts file the player just freezes every time.
Yes you are missing something fundamental. Removing the encryption flag does not decrypt the file, it just means that it is possible to decrypt. You still need to do a copy to USB storage or one of the methods provided by the user community firmware.

Just got my PVR yesterdays so all still new!
How do I record prgrammes from the schedule for the days ahead please? I cannot make the day/date change.
Just keep scrolling right (Press right edge of centre button) is the hard way. You can jump in increments of two hours using the fast forward/backward keys and in increments of a day forward/backward using the ad skip buttons.
