Incidentally, before installing the new HDD I ran two zero-fills (doesn’t matter what kind, but I did a long Windows format and a simple erase with Seatools).

I advise this with all new HDD’s, in any context, if at all possible. Run with the drives in a physical environment that keeps them under c. 42 degrees if possible.

Run Diskpart > Clean in Windows CMD before installing the HDD in whatever its home will be.

That is a wise thing to do with a cheap “new” HDD but I don’t think it is necessary with brand new drives.

Thanks for your help. Looking at all the answers I think we are stuck with London local news unless we aim the aerial at another transmitter.

Before you abandon hope, there are two things you could do. Firstly you understandably only posted the first part of your postcode, the data will be more accurate if you send me a Private Message (Top right of the Forum page) giving your full post code. Secondly you might try talking to a local aerial installer to see if he knows a way to get South East region.

    Hi Martin,

    My Postcode is CM21

Sorry but I can’t see a way to get South East region news from that postcode. However I don’t live in that area and may be someone who does can suggest a solution. Have a look at the results I have used at https://www.freeview.co.uk/help/coverage-checker/detailed-view?postcode=CM219JX

Hi, I have just bought a Freeview Humax Aura box and it is showing London News on BBC and ITV. Our old Virgin box gave us BBC and ITV news for the South East region which we would like to continue to receive. Is there a way to change this on the Humax Aura box? Our Aerial is pointing towards the Crystal Palace transmitter.

I suspect you will need to do a manual tune. What is your postcode?

Error message was storage not available.

Have you tested the Toshiba drive to see if it really has failed?

Sad news but I suppose inevitable as the PVR market diminishes and users switch to streaming.

Please let me know the contact details for someone near Bergerac that could repair a Humax about 10 years old that has stopped recording.

An idea of the likely cost would be very useful.

It might help if you tell us which model of Humax box you have.

I tested the aura indoors on my roof aerial and it tuned fine no problem.

I missed this the first time; what aerial are you using to feed the Aura?

I am trying to use an Aura box in a motorhome. When the aerial is plugged into the TV I get 90% signal strength and 90%+ signal quality when parked at home.

If I plug the aerial cable into the aura box then to the tv the tv’s signal drops by a few % but pictures are fine.

What is the Signal Strength and signal quality reported by the Aura?

The settings told me LAN was okay; it was the router that was at fault. Yet all else connected to the router is working fine.

Try turning the power to the router off for 30s, then turn it back on again and see if the Humax connects. Over the years I have seen a few odd things happen on my network which were fixed by power cycling the router.

Would SSD drives work with my HUMAX then so long as they are MBR and Ex-FAT?

Are you sure that Ex-FAT is supported by the HDR-2000T? The manual only lists NTFS, FAT and ext3?

Has freesat turned off the search on Humax dvrs?

If you look at the link in post #2 of this thread, it clearly says the search functionality has been removed.

by “bus-powered”, do you mean powered by the USB port on the HDR-2000T

yes – drives which are USB powered. I attached a bus-powered SSD drive but it was invisible to the HUMAX

Was it using an MBR style partition?

That drive’s 4TB version does come with a power supply. If I format that 4TB one correctly and connect it to the HUMAX , attach the drive’s power supply etc,.. will the HUMAX allow me access to 2TB of that drive or simply not allow me to use it at all?

My expectation would be yes with a separate power supply and an MBR partition style.

I think your problem is not file system related but is to do with the partition table. The HDR-2000T only supports the older MBR partition table which can only handle drives up to 2TB.

I am not sure what you mean by “bus-powered”, do you mean powered by the USB port on the HDR-2000T? If so have you checked the power requirement of the hard drive? If it is a 3.5″ inch drive you are using you will also need a 12V power supply.

She has had the unit for a couple of months and she has mentioned recently that she is having issues with pausing / rewinding TV.

Sometimes when she uses rewind it seems to jump to beginning of the previous program? She says she then tries to wind forward and it doesn’t seem to let her?

She also feels it is very laggy when it comes to using the time shift feature.

In my experience, the most common cause of the rewind problem is that the button has been pressed before the programme has actually started to play; this is worse with HD recordings that typically take longer to start playing. My advice is to wait until the time line shows the programme is playing.

I did connect to the Aura via FTP in case I would be able to just wipe the ‘time shit’ file(s) but can’t see them via FTP, and having done a little fiddling it looks like it should be purged every 2 hours / upon changing channels anyway.

So – just asking – is the time shift on the Aura known to be a bit… glitchy? Or is there potentially some other thing afoot?

As far as I know there is nothing you can do to change the size of the time shift buffer.

I should add that I had terrible problems with trying to jump over adverts in this evenings episode of Coronation Street which I have also seen previously and I will report to Humax.
