Most likely explanation is that the file system is corrupt. Watch any important recordings and then format the disk from the HDD Control item in the Record menu. Default password is 0000

Perhaps change the remote control operating frequency see http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/multi-code-function-hdhdr-remote

…do your 594 posts consist of you defending moderators too? If they have a hard enough job, then perhaps to criticise someone’s buying habits such be avoided.

No they mainly involve trying to help people. You don’t like the graphics which is reasonable. However expecting that Humax will do something about it is not rational. The 9200 has been out of production for some years and the 9150/9300 are going out of production now. Simple financial logic says that Humax are unlikely to make a significant expenditure in updating the graphics at this point in time. My guess is that the majority of the users would prefer to see any resource that Humax choose to devote to these products used to fix known bugs in the software.

If you dislike the menu screens so much why did you buy a 9300T last month (a unit from over 4 years ago and one which you cannot readily transfer recordings from) instead of one of the current models ie the HDR Fox T2 or the DTR T1000?

You would probably find their menus more to your liking.

As a moderator I am somewhat insulted by your comments,

It appears to me that it wasn’t a comment but a question which you have chosen not to answer. People who moderate Forums have a hard enough job with your uncalled for criticism.

My question is, do i need to pay for “You View”?

No you don’t have to pay a monthly subscription to access YouView. The TalkTalk cost you quote is the cost of a broadband package and included in that price is the option to get a YouView box for nothing (but there is an installation cost). You can stick with your existing ISP but will have to pay for the box.

So when I get the decrypted .ts onto the USB I then need to convert it to some different format or can media players, as Graham seemed to suggest, read ‘.ts’ as-it-comes ??

Many can deal directly with TS. You can make significant savings in file size by converting but it probably isn’t worth it for things that will be watched once.

One very last question if I may … having got the ‘.ts’ file on the PVR-HDD, when I copy it to the USB-HDD does it auto-convert to a (different) readable codec so that the laptop media player can read it, or, is ‘.ts’ a generic (dare I say ‘standard’) format that (?most/all?) media players can read anyway ??

The copying removes the encryption but doesn’t change the format. It would be quicker to use the FTP server on the Humax and transfer to the laptop with an FTP client but pointless as it doesn’t remove the encryption.

shows the Read/COPY formats for the various disk formats (FAT/NTFS) with FAT showing XviD, which is why I assumed this was the output format when writing to USB-HDD.

Wrong assumption but as you say it doesn’t matter. Probably not relevant for your purpose but it is possible to install custom firmware that would allow HD recordings to be played externally.

I’ve been trying to update the software by downloading on to a usb stick, have tried 3 different usb’s in all, but the pvr can’t see the software. Is it because I’m using a mac to download? Has anyone else had this problem? Automatic update doesn’t work either…

Automatic update needs the software to be broadcast OTA which it hasn’t been so far but will be later this month. The download from the Humax site is in a zip file. Have you extracted the software from the zip file? Is the software in the root directory (top level) ie not in a subdirectory? Any other USB devices plugged into the Humax need to be temporarily removed.

Equally, it states that the video output format is XviD, which I believe to be an MP4 compatible format.

Where does it say that? As far as I know the format is TS (which Graham has described above).

Could this be a worn out Remote and if so are repairs or replacements available does anyone know?

Could be. Did you have a two year warranty? If so ring (not email) Humax support. They have been known to send out new remotes. Otherwise you can buy them eg Link to Remote seller

I have read about putting the software on via a usb stick, I have downloaded the file but now I can’t open it to send it to the usb stick. It says cannot open a hdf file.

You do not need to open it; just copy it to the USB stick and make sure the name is correct.

Recently I’ve had problems recording successive programmes on the same channel. The first records and the second doesn’t.

Sorry my mind reading module won’t boot up this morning; which Humax box do you have?

In Oxford area when I retuned box it started giving me London news, rather than Oxford from the much closer Oxford transmitter

Sounds as though your box is not tuned correctly which will give the problem you describe. I suggest manual tuning to correct the problem. If you tell us what box it is we can point you at the appropriate set of instructions.

Thanks for this. I’m no expert in this area at all, but does the Player you suggest include BBC iPlayer?

I wasn’t really recommending the Western Digital device; my intention was just to point you in a different direction. You can get a lot more information at Western Digital UK web site Yes it does IPlayer and a whole heap of other things. Somebody else may have suggestions as to other similar devices.

Could Edimax have changed the chipset as 2 users are unable to detect any wifi signal, and both within days of each other, whilst this problem doesn’t seem to exisit on older postings?

Clearly it is possible. Did it come with a driver disk? If so are the drivers the same as Edimax website (in which case it is probably the same chipset as previously) or different?
