Also, does the box have to be set as a DMZ to work from outside the home network?
I thought (but could well be wrong) that there is an intermediate server involved. So the ios device registers the recording requests on the intermediate server and the Humax polls the server from time to time. Assuming this is correct there are no incoming connections to the Humax so it doesn’t need to be in a DMZ nor does it need port forwarding rules.

freezing
Care to tell us a little more about your problem?

Participantis it all a single volume? I don’t know about the built in NTFS support but I think I read recently that the Linux kernel on the Humax is limited to 2TB volumes.

I have a new HD tv but my 9150T does not have a HDMI port and so cannot get HD. Can I get around this or will I have to buy a new Humax with HDMI port. I don’t want to give up my Humax!!
If you want a recorder capable of recording HD broadcasts then I highly recommend the HDR-FOX T2. It does everything the 9150 does (and a lot of it rather better) plus HD recording plus BBC iPlayer. In addition all sorts of other things are possible if you are given to tinkering.

I found if I just turned it off from the mains, when you turned it on again it’d let you manually tune it, but you lost any planned recordings.
You shouldn’t need to turn it off at the mains unless it had got into a state where the box thought it was recording but was not. Any retune that deletes channels will unfortunately delete the schedule of future recordings.

We have noticed that occasionally shows that are set to record on series link simply don’t record. It seems to be just on BBC2 and ITV.
Any ideas what could be the problem?
There is a known problem with that software version where if there are more than two successive recordings (eg 8:00 to 8:30,8:30 to 9:00, 9:00 to 9:30) and the unit is in standby then one of the intermediate recordings will be dropped. Could this explain your problems?

Then, rembering that the save-epg-info-to-disk feature was only introduced with v.23, I tried installing v.21 (which doesn’t have that feature and would therefore not use epgsave.dat) and as hoped/expected, the freezing prob is gone.
So the question is, is it possible with humaxrw or any other utility to delete epgsave.dat so that a new installation of v.23 would have to write a fresh one on the disk rather that trying to use the corrupt one?
Interesting observation. I have notified the humaxrw author (xyz321) of your question. Which Humax box do you have (I am guessing 9200)? If it is a 9200 then you could do it the hard way by using humaxrw to download everything to the PC, format the disk and then upload again. However I would wait and see what xyz321 has to say; there is certainly an undocumented command to delete corrupt buffers which is a similar type of problem.

When you push and let go the P up button the channels start changing upwards at a rate off more than 1 a second until you push the p up or p down button.
I believe there are two common causes for the problem: the easy one is that there is another remote in the room with a key stuck down eg under a book or a source of interference such as a fluorescent light; the difficult problem is that the infra red receiver in the Humax has become faulty and there have been a few reports of this which involved replacement under warranty. Let us know what happens.

I do not have an aerial amplifier and I fail to understand how a 2 year old Panasonic can have a perfect picture etc. and yet the Humax cannot cope.
The Humax has a more sensitive tuner so that people in marginal areas can receive Freeview. The fact that you started to get problems on the Panasonic when fed from the Humax, when there will be a small amount of amplification, suggests the Panasonic is also near to its limit.
Am I expected to somehow reduce the signal strength?
The usual fix is to fit an attenuator such as Link to eBay seller You didn’t answer my question about your proximity to a transmitter?

Hi A few days ago my Humax 9200T appeared to delete all scheduled recordings and all recorded programs.
Classic signs of a corrupt file system which is a common problem. If you don’t want the recordings back then the fix is quick and easy; format the disk from the HDD Control menu item in the Record menu. If you want the recordings back then it involves opening the Humax, connecting it to a PC and using a piece of software called Humaxrw to copy the recordings off and then copy them back after formatting.

but as I recall strebgth was 100% and quality was 80%.
When the signel is too strong the Humax shows a strength of 100%. This will be a direct cause of the quality not being 100%
I agree with Chris, if the signal strength is 100% then it is too high; the Humax slightly boosts the signal which may explain the problems you had with the TV. Do you have an aerial amplifier or are you very close to a transmitter? With digital TV the signal strength is not as important as with analogue. Once you have 100% quality there will be no further improvement in the picture with increase in strength. I would suggest 50% signal strength is more than adequate; in our location with direct line of sight to a transmitter 30% signal strength is adequate.

when I hear of people downloading auto updates and everything freezing etc I start to worry,
I don’t recollect reports like that related to the HDR-FOX T2; don’t get confused by people discussing other less mature boxes.
ps signal strength and quality are good
Could you quote numbers for signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax?

Tell me honestly, is this a one off, these scored well on the which report so I bought one but I don’t know if I want another,
These are very good PVRs that don’t give many problems. I suspect you have been unlucky.

I purchased an HDI Fox T 2 yesterday and have connected it to my Panasonic Viera TX-L32G10B and although I initially used the HDMI lead I found that the picture quality was not as good through the Fox as without it, also the sound had to be set really high for the same volume.
Odd. Panasonics have, I think, picture quality settings for each input source. Did you adjust the settings on the TV for the HDMI port you used? It is quite normal to have the volume on the Humax set to near maximum; it is the way all Humax kit I have used seems to be designed to work.
