@Martin: The buffer will be overwritten on the next boot anyway, so it doesnt matter.
It matters to me. The risk I perceive is file system corruption. This isn’t particularly likely as EXT3 is a journalling file system but I like to play safe.

To tell if its safe to switch off, take it out of standby.
If the glow is still red, its recording, if its blue, its ok to switch off.
I disagree. Switching off whilst it is live isn’t good practice because it will be recording the buffer. My approach is to put it into standby and feel the top of the case to see if the disk is still spinning (which it does for about a minute as it saves the EPG data etc). When it has stopped spinning turn off at the mains.

in conversation with a work mate he told me he had a 9200T which was locking up now and again I thought a simple update would deal with this looks like I was wrong
The latest version for the 9200T is 1.00.23; if he is using an earlier version then this version may help. Otherwise we need more information about the circumstances in which it locks up to diagnose the problem.

I have tried that but I don’t know what “carry out a default setting” means and I cannot find any instructions here or in my instruction manual.
Press Menu then select Installation. Enter Password Pin (default is 0000). Select Default Setting. Select Yes and enter the Pin again. It is described on page 60 of the User Manual (under Installation) I have.

Also, the FOXSAT box file size on a 2 hour recording is 190 MB and the Fox-T2 file size is around 730MB for the same recording. Can someone comment on why the huge difference?
This is a known issue; for some reason the Humax records vast amounts of additional meta data. The custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2 includes a utility to remove the additional data called (I think) stripts.

my aim was to turn the router into a switch by connecting it only by the port to the downstairs modem router, and disabling DCHP to do this, but obviously something went wrong, cannot connect to the upstairs router by any means at the moment, will keep trying,
I have already asked once but was ignored. What is the make and model of the modem and the routers?

it’s a 9300, version a4.38
a4.38 is the loader version; the main software version is shown by Menu>System>Status

On Saturday, I was without an EPG for hours! It was just blank. For some time now, the EPG will only display a full content for about 3 or 4 days, then bits & pieces for the days after that. I’ve done a few updates, & even a couple of default settings, but it just doesn’t “populate” like it used to.
Which Humax model do you have? What version of the software is it running?

The humax ( 192.168.1.4 ) is plugged via ethernet straight into the modem? Will disconnect and reconnect cable to see if that’s the problem
What make and model of modem? Is this cable or ADSL or FTTC?

Ignore the – sign and tune to 28 and 30.
Actually no point in trying to tune 30 on a 9200 as it is the HD Mux and you will not be able to receive it.

Apparently I can pause live TV with no problem now. Although this was not the case earlier today.
It sounds to me as though there is some corruption of the file system. You have two options: either format the drive which will of course delete any recordings or install the custom firmware which has a utility called fix-disk to rectify common problems non destructively.

Over the past few days the HDR player has recorded as normal but when you come to play the recording back (although it shows the whole programme has recorded) it briefly displays a blank screen and then returns to the menu, much like the youtube query I read earlier?
Can you pause live TV?

Now my 9150T is working like a goodun can I just remove the 160gig hard drive and replace it with a 500gig sarta drive and just format it, at the moment the hard drive is empty it would be a great time to make it better
Yes it is straight forward. It is best if the new drive is one that is designed for use in PVRs.
