I assume that it works in the other direction too, but not tried that yet.

I suspect you will be disappointed. I would expect the HDR-2000T files to encrypted when copied of by FTP.

Hi Martin, just to confirm, I believe MS_Boffin is saying this blinking display happened with the 9200 switched ON?

That is correct and exactly what I saw. Blinking clock whilst on was a prelude to clock failure in standby which at first was intermittent and then became permanent.

I’m a bit puzzled about this behaviour, I don’t recall anybody reporting it before.

I have seen that behaviour and I believe it occurs at an intermediate stage between the clock board behaving properly and not working at all in standby.

Also, why do you have to run it from C: root, couldnt i use my larger drive E: as it is 1TB

Use any drive you want. I didn’t say you had to use C:, my example specifically says eg.

You say any USB to SATA Converter, but do you mean one with power like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-TO-SATA-IDE-HARD-DRIVE-CD-ROM-LEAD-CORD-FR-HDD-POWER-ADAPTER-CONVERTER-/390676707586?pt=UK_Computing_Drive_Cables_Adapters&hash=item5af6257902

One with a power supply is a safer option; if you use the Humax to power the drive it is very easy to touch the power supply and destroy it.

Can you explain how to do this and what cable i would need, as there are a lot of usb to sata connectors.

Any USB to SATA converter should be OK or if you have a desktop PC you could connect it to a spare SATA connector temporarily. You need to download humaxrw from Link to humaxrw download. You connect the drive to the PC NB don’t let Windows initialise the disk when it notices it. Copy humaxrw.exe to a directory immediately below root eg C:humax.

Start a command prompt (NB if this a recent version of Windows you need to run the command prompt with Administrative privileges.

    At the command prompt type:

    C:

    cd humax

    humaxrw 2: -r -l

With luck this will provide a list of programs. If not try changing the 2: eg 3:, 4: etc until you find the correct drive number. Note that because the record list has been lost the files will be named recover_0010.ts etc. When you have the correct drive number then to copy recover_0010ts file to the PC try

    humaxrw 2: -r -g 10

The readme.txt file that comes with humaxrw will give more information. Let us know how you get on. Good luck.

The file system has become corrupt which is a well known problem. The only way to recover the recordings is to open the Humax and attach the hard drive to a PC and use humaxrw in recovery mode.

Haven’t tried installing the firmware yet – presumably with would give a more detailed check of the drive.

Yes it will show the SMART data and if there appears to be a problem which based on your symptoms, I think there is, will allow a judgement as to whether the disk is nearing the end of its life or there is a problem with a few sectors which can be corrected with the tools in the custom firmware.

Have had HDR Fox t2 for a couple of years with out any problems but in the last few weeks I have had problems with playback recordings where the image freezes / becomes pixelated and loses audio for probably 5-10 seconds and reoccurs probably half a dozen time during a one hour recording.

I would agree that this is probably a hard drive problem. The only way to be certain is to install the custom firmware and have a look at the SMART status of the disk. If the count of reallocated sectors is more than about a thousand then the disk is definitely on the way out. I would suggest you consider changing the disk rather than getting a new PVR. A replacement 1TB disk of the correct type will cost a bit over £50 (1TB is the largest drive that the Humax itself will format) and is very straightforward to change. I was suffering a similar problem to you and fitted a new 2TB drive (which is fiddlier to format) and have had no further problems.

Thank you. So to be precise – there shouldn’t be a problem with the recording of the program, just that there is a problem with playback on this machine.

I believe so. What is recorded is more or less the digital transmission stream without any modification.

If Humax are never going to solve this problem should I consider buying a new model? Do you have any recommendations?

Obviously the choice of whether you buy a new machine will depend on how much this problem irritates you. The HDR-FOX T2 is a mature machine that doesn’t suffer from this problem and would allow you to play back recordings from the 9300 (providing you can get them off the disk). The HDR-2000T is a new machine that seems to be intended as an HDR-FOX T2 replacement and has some improvements but I don’t have one so can’t comment on whether there are any downsides.

If I managed to copy the file onto a new Humax PVR, might the recording pay OK?

Yes or you could download the recording to a PC (this involves opening the Humax and connecting the drive to the PC) and play it from there.

the problem is when it goes to stand-by the clock time goes we have just four small lines no time

The clock board needs cleaning which isn’t particularly difficult see Link to DigitalSpy clock board thread

Tonight, most of the 1 to 5 channels are there for the next week, but it’s a bit “iffy” with the other programs from Tuesday on.

What software version is the Humax running? Do you have any channels numbered above 800?

I’m wondering if it only records when left on rather than standby.

When the Humax is in standby does it display the time on the front panel display or –:– ?

I am getting a mesage saying that cannot get internet links now on my screen when I try yo go to portal to get BBC i player or other internet links – any ideas?

It is likely to be something in your network setup. How is the Humax connected to the router?
