Hi,
I’ve noticed over the last few months that the EPG on my PVR9300T has been much slower (as in taking 3 or 4 hours) to load some channels over 3 or 4 days ahead. This is with the PVR started up from standby, with BBC1 tuned in. I find that tuning the EPG to the target channel can usually accelerate the loading of the EPG for that channel. I’ve also noticed that the EPG can, at the same time, occasionally lose the schedule for other channels that far ahead.
Are you confident that the Humax is tuned only to a single transmitter? One symptom would be channels numbered 800 above. The fix is to do a manual tune using the Biggles instructions at Link to tuning instructions

Had the PVR about four weeks the picture started breaking up, I noticed when I checked the signal the strength was 80% but the quality was up and down 100% down to 40% then 100% and then 60% etc etc, changed the old looking aerial seemed ok for about ten mins, changed the downlead again seemed Ok for about 10mins, then the same bad picture on and off, I by mistake switched on the aerial 5votls output and the quality remains constant 100% and the strenght has jumped from 80 to 100% and ideas, the aerial is a bog standard 12 element from CPC no amp etc
Assuming there is not a masthead amplifier then theoretically turning on aerial power should make no difference however you are not the first person to make the same observation. If it fixes the problem and you don’t get messages about the aerial power being short circuited then leave it on.

will check on the warranty as it came from John Lewis. Otherwise can you give me more info on the firmware please?
The custom firmware is developed by the user community. It works alongside the standard firmware and adds extra facilities. The best place to start reading about it is Link to cutom firmware wiki

One other idea struck me; could I simply run two PVRs side by side, using a Y splitter for the coax input ? I could then run the 9300-T until it drops, copying programmes to DVDRs at leisure.
Yes that should work.

I’ve noticed recently that the majority of recordings made by my Humax are skipping forward, making the programmes unwatchable. I’ve tried rewinding but its a lengthy and frustrating process and can happen dozens of times during one programme. Any ideas, Im at a point where its of no value to me?
Sounds like a hard drive problem to me. Is the box still under warranty? If so contact the vendor if not consider installing the custom firmware which has tools to diagnose the health of the hard drive and to fix common problems with the hard drive and the file system.

My PVR-9300T is getting rather long in the tooth, and I wondered if there is a way of transferring the old data. There is no USB socket of course, and the PVR isn’t showing anywhere when I connect to a laptop via HDMI or RCA.
Transfer to DVDRs works fine, but it’s a tedious process.
The quickest way would be to open the 9300T and connect the hard drive to a PC and use humaxrw to transfer the recordings to the PC. If the new PVR happens to be a Humax HDR-FOX T2 then the custom firmware allows humaxrw to be run on the HDR. It is simply a matter of using a caddy or SATA to USB connector to connect the old drive direct to the Humax and then files can be copied en-bloc or one by one when required.

If your suspicion that the programme index on the hard disk drive has become corrupted, how could this have occurred? Does this mean that I will need to format the hard disk drive?
It is a common problem but nobody (as far as I am aware) knows the root cause. Yes the only realistic way of fixing this is to format the drive from the HDD Control item in the Record Menu.

power links work on that so it must be the Humax.
What make are the Power links as some of them require a firmware update to cope with UPnP devices like the Humax?

Thanks, Martin, that sorted it out. Any idea why it would have done it, though? I’ve had the box for nearly five years now, and I’ve never seen that behaviour before.
I don’t know for certain but the suggestion has been made that the box manages to get confused about the encryption keys which are held in hardware. I have seen this on the Freeview HDR-FOX T2 and it happens to us about once a year.

Hi, I have a 9150T, just like vinylrulesok, it just keeps going round in circles, “loading” then “please wait”, it had been fine until we had a power cut, now it will not start, have tried removing the aerial, switching on and pressing the menu button, nothing happened, also tried holding standby button and turning on, still nothing,
Assuming the Humax is out of warranty, try opening the case and remove the lead to the hard drive. If the box will now boot normally then the hard drive needs formatting in a PC.

It would seem that something is going awry with the encryption / decryption process. Does anybody have any ideas?
Have you tried putting the box into standby, waiting for the disk to stop spinning, turning off the power, counting to ten and then turning the power on again.

I have it connected via a powerline form a BT Home Hub 3 and I got iplayer etc for the first couple of weeks,
Have you tested the Powerline adapters by connecting something other than the Humax eg a PC?

I installed some custom firmware but could see no new functionality offered in the device menus.
You will not see any change in the menus. The magic is revealed by using a web browser on a computer to access the Humax.

OK thanks, so that indicates MS_Boffin simply has the clock problem with no other complications.
Certainly what I think.
