I cannot perform a default reset as per the instructions here, nor am I able to do a Humaxcheck as per these instructions.

So what happens when you attempt those two procedures? One of them should fix the problem.

I’ll probably go ahead and do a format.

I would suggest waiting until one of the users with a 9300 and familiar with the problem can comment.

As for getting the recordings off the 9300, I’ve come across this post on another site, which suggests that it can be done, even if getting them back on the pvr is not possible. Is that so?

Yes and it is exactly what I said in post #2 in this thread; why are you doubtful?

I don’t own a 9300T so am not best placed to comment. Based on what I have heard, your problem sounds like the one where certain series of programs cause erratic playback behaviour (presumably because of the way they are encoded) on the 9300 and 9150 only. Humax have sort of acknowledged this problem in the past but no fix has been forthcoming. Maybe someone who actually owns a 9300 or 9150 can comment. If it is this problem then a format will not help and the only real fix is to get another PVR.

Lost all scheduled prog entries on Sunday night/Monday morning. Anyone know why and how to stop it happening again?

Most likely the box decided to do a retune. The only reliable way to stop it happening and/or restore the schedule after a retune is with the Custom Firmware.

Thanks. How do I do that?

Tell us the make and model of the router and somebody may be able to help. Without that information the only answer is “read the manual”.

    Is there anybody out there?

    Yes.

The other possible problem is the my password contains dashes (hyphens) . there is no option to enter this character. I have tried using the underline character and leaving out the dashes altogether.

The Humax has problems with anything other than alphanumeric characters in WiFi passwords (eg spaces won’t work). I can only suggest changing the password on the router.

Some time in the early hours my HDR FOX T2 decided to automatically retune all channels with no warning. As a result all of my recording schedule has been trashed. I am not a happy bunny 😡

I don’t see any good reason why re-tuning necessarily has to wipe the schedule.

The reason that Humax choose to wipe the schedule is that if it was just left unchanged and the retune picked up a different transmitter then recordings would fail for no obvious reason. However it is possible (most of the time) to patch the recovered schedule after the retune so that it still works. This is demonstrated by the Custom Firmware for the HDR-FOX T2 which has exactly this functionality. I have no idea why Humax have not implemented this themselves and I agree it is irritating.

For months now I’ve had the skipping problem that I’ve now read is common and that might be fixed by doing a disk reformat. Before I do that, is there any way I can transfer my recordings off, then put them back after the reformat?

There are two skipping problems; one that might be helped by a format and the other that will not be. Perhaps you could describe your symptoms? The only theoretical way to copy the recordings off and replace them is with humaxrw. Unfortunately it has been reported there is a bug in humaxrw in the code for replacing the recordings on a 9300 (it works fine on a 9200). If you are desperate to do this and prepared to assist the author of humaxrw then there is a slim possibility that the bug could be fixed.

My year old Humax has suddenly stopped recording programs, including paused programs. Existing recorded programs play without any errors and live programs still play thru the box. The 1TB HDD is only 1/3rd full.

At a guess the recording partition has been marked read only because of a problem with the disk or the file system. Your options are:

Copy off any important recordings to an attached USB drive and then format the drive.

Install the custom firmware and run fix-disk which has a good chance of sorting out the problem with no need to copy things off.

Contact Humax support (who I suspect will want you to format the drive).

One other thing you could try is running the built in HDD Test (Menu button then Settings>System>Data Storage>HDD Test). This will run a non destructive test on the hard drive and may give a clue as to what is wrong. It has been reported that recent standard firmware versions do contain a disk repair tool (a bit like fix-disk in the custom firmware) but I have not seen any reports on how it is accessed or anybody having used it. Let us know how you get on.

The AV drives tend to be stripped down standard drives, no error correction and less RAM, and are cheaper to supply to the manufacturer.

I don’t think no error correction is correct but there is less error correction; normal drives will show more stutter in playback when dealing with a marginal sector. Interesting though that you haven’t seen any problems.

I’ve recently bought a s/h 9300-t with 160GB disk. I’d like to go up to 320GB and there are disks available at reasonable cost. Has anyone experience of doing this and if so, what’s the procedure with the disk in terms od partitioning and formatting?

It is straightforward and there is nothing to do with partitioning. When you switch the Humax on after fitting the new drive it will detect a blank disk and put up a prompt offering to format it. Note that hard drives should be of a type designed for use in a PVR often denoted as AV drives.

    More strange behaviour.

I did the electronic 101 fix, turn it off and on again, a retune, and the channels are there now. However, when I have the PVR on, those channels (on CH 31; BBC 4 HD, BBC news HD, etc.), aren’t being received by the TV, i.e., aren’t being passed through the PVR.

First thing I would do is have a careful look at the aerial cabling and make sure all the joints are well made, that it isn’t kinked or wrapped around a potential source of electrical interference. What is the signal strength and quality reported by the Humax now on the relevant channels?

I cannot receive BBC 4 HD (the others on the same multiplex) on channel 31 from Winter Hill on my Humax.

I have retuned several times. Currently the signal strength is 42%, the quality is flipping between 5% to 100%. On my TV, the quality is a solid 100%, and the strength is 82%.

Are you doing an automatic tune or a manual tune?

It is not advisable to try to downgrade to a 1.02.xx firmware from 1.03.xx as people have elsewhere reported having problems downgrading.

Really? The only problem that I am aware of is that boxes with the new tuner arrangement will not tune anything with version 1.02.32 and earlier. Boxes with the old tuner arrangement can use any firmware version as far as I know

Hi, I have the older revision HDR FOX-T2 which can only officially run 1.02.32 firmware,

There was an OTA update of 1.03.12 a couple of weeks ago that updated both old and new boxes so it is definitely official that all boxes can run 1.03.xx firmware.
