What command do I need to use to delete the 0.av file? I can’t seem to work this out. And is it a 0.av or 0.ts that I’m trying to delete?

Sorry I hadn’t thought about it. humaxrw -D will do it.

On the HDR-2000T are you saying you can copy recordings from USB to the units HDD without taking the unit apart?

Yes on both the HDR-2000T and the HDR-FOX T2 you can copy recordings to and from the internal hard drive to attached USB storage. All recordings are encrypted but copying SD recordings to USB removes the encryption. The HDR-FOX T2 also has a custom firmware which works along side the Humax firmware to extend the capabilities in all sorts of ways. The custom firmware may appear on the HDR-2000T in the future but that isn’t certain and currently there is no timescale.

On the HDD – can I just delete both .av files as I assume the other is related to a recording?

If you delete the buffer (0.ts) the cross linking problem will go away. When you get the box working again you can then see if the other recording is playable and decide whether or not to delete it.

Finally – If I have to buy a new Humax Youview box is there anyway of transferring the saved recordings to it without opening it and invalidating the warranty?

My advice would be to avoid the Youview box and get an HDR-2000T or an HDR-FOX T2. You can certainly transfer recordings from a 9300 to either of those via a USB drive. You just need the .ts file from the 9300; the other associated files are not needed.

So I am assuming the PSU has failed??

Have you actually tried to boot the box with the hard drive disconnected? If it still won’t boot up then I agree the most likely cause is power supply damage.

,Can I replace the PSU and if so where do I buy one from?

These people claim to be able to repair them Link to Free-sat-tv

Edit. Sorry meant to add that the humaxcheck report suggests that one of the time shift buffer (0.av) is cross linked with something else. Just delete 0.av. The Humax will recreate it next time it boots.

OK, I obviously don’t understand the theory behind this. If I do a full format using my laptop, then the Humax does it’s own, won’t that undo any good work the full format has done?

What a full format will do (that may be helpful) is to map out any marginal sectors; this is done by the disk controller firmware and so is a level below the file system and hence will persist when reformatted.

Oh and there’s no need to worry about reloading any software, once the hard disk is replaced?

All the software is held in flash RAM not on the disk so nothing to worry about.

So would I expect my drive, when formatted by my laptop and then reinstalled, to be formatted again in the Humax?

Yes the Humax MUST reformat as the file system is unique to Humax (and subtly different for various different models in the range).

No release info yet as this hot off the press, I just wanted to advise prospective buyers that the loopthru’ issue has been addressed. Have no info on LED situ, will ask next time I speak with Humax Towers.

Barry, thanks; I understand the situation. My partner is the main user of our HDR-2000T and she does find the inability to decide if the box is recording or in standby very confusing.

Your serial cable needs to be DB-9 female to DB-9 female based on the adaptors I’ve seen.

What you have said is all correct but let me emphasise that the cable needs to be a crossover cable that connects pin 2 at one end to pin 3 at the other end and vice versa. The number one mistake people make is to get a cable or adapter with the correct connectors but not having the crossover.

Software – loopthru’ enabled in same way as HDR T2 – switch off power saving in standby option which has been added to power options in settings/system menu.

Excellent. Any idea when this will be released Barry? Also are the doing anything about the red and blue LEDs on the front that currently make it very difficult to tell if the box is recording or in standby (eg making the red light in standby much dimmer)?

After all ext3 is a journaled file system, which in theory, should be easier to recover files from?

It is true that EXT3 is a journaled file system but journaling is about keeping the file system consistent after a crash or sudden power loss and doesn’t keep long term data that would be needed for undelete operations. I will repeat my advice to the OP is not to waste time trying to recover the file.

The possibility would be: Unplug your box’s power, to stop any further activity on HDD. Remove HDD from the box. Connect to PC running live Linux rescue distribution, for example any of these. Recover what you can, and see if successful by playing back on your box.

Have you actually recovered deleted files from an EXT3 formatted drive? I think the chances of success are very small.

Plus; If it was recorded in HD, as I do understand, it has been encoded, which complicates a matter even further.

All recordings are encrypted when written to the hard drive (both SD and HD). Humax provide a method to remove the encryption from SD recordings by copying to USB storage (or by streaming from the DLNA server).

    1) How can I lock a file from ever being deleted (to prevent this hapening again)

Select the recording, press the OPT+ button the remote and take the Lock option

    2) Can a deleted file be recovered (a recycle bin essentially)

Not with the standard firmware. The custom firmware has a package to provide an undelete capability.

    This is getting ridicolous.

Stop changing tack. Explain clearly your suggestion that I am biased.

HI, I’ve upgraded from the Humax PVR 9300T to the HDR-2000T mainly so I could receive the Data channel, Motors TV. (which I’m pleased to say works well) But we’re only 3 days in and the noise that the box makes whilst it’s recording is awful! It sounds like a chugging steam train!

That sounds like a faulty box to me; ours makes no perceptible noise although my hearing isn’t the sharpest.

The first episode recorded fine and the second which was on straight after didn’t record…it said ‘Recording failed, unable to track program’

Had the recording failed ie was zero length or was it just very slightly truncated. We see these messages from time to time but often the actual recording is fine.

What is inaccurate about merely stating that the HDR2000T loses some capability compared to the older box ?

I didn’t say it was inaccurate; please don’t distort my comments. I said it lacked balance; you pointed out some of the shortcomings of the HDR-2000T without also pointing out the advantages.

As I see it, the HDR-2000T was designed for a lower price point than the HDR-FOX T2 and things like the front panel have been sacrificed to achieve it. People will have different views as to whether this is a good thing.
