Signal strength varies between 46 and 54, quality between 0 and 70, (at the moment it is 10).
Signal strength is OK (but not brilliant); signal quality is the problem. You say in your first post you manually tuned; what multiplex channel numbers did you use? What is the first part of your postcode?

Our Humax is connected to the incoming signal via the antenna in port, and the TV via the loop out. Is there a rational explanation for this, please?
Start by telling us the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax when viewing ITV3.

ParticipantIt is not being transmitted OTA which explains why a software search fails. Download the software from the link in the post above yours and then follow the procedure in this link Updating software link

Had 9300T for years working perfectly on 16:9, now suddenly 16.9 setting produces picture stretched vertically so top and bottom of picture not accessible, so no “bottom line” text notes visible on news channels any more. Have Humax sent out a patch that would cause this?
No. Have you checked whether a button has been pressed on the TV remote to change the TV settings?

When I installed the customized firmware for my HDR Fox T2 which the system did run, when I view the system details it still states it is FHTCP 1.03.12; update7 feb 14 which I wonder if the system has accepted the customized version. I downloaded the first one on the list dated the 01/07/14 I would have expected it to show the new update version date!
So have you actually tried to run fix-disk? The custom firmware provides you with tools to repair some disk and file system faults but you do actually have to use the tools.

Anyone else had this issue?
We have had an HDR-2000T for just short of a year and have never lost recordings and the older but similar HDR-FOX T2 for approaching four years and that has never lost recordings. There are a few reports of similar problems but they are not wide spread. You may have a hard drive with a minor fault so you might consider getting the box exchanged. On the HDR-FOX T2 you can install custom firmware which amongst other things, has a tool to repair minor hard drive problems (force mapping out of marginal sectors) and to repair file system corruption. Unfortunately the custom firmware isn’t available for the HDR-2000T at this point in time.

ParticipantI agree with MontysEvilTwin. Try installing the custom firmware and check the health of the drive first. Then consider replacing the drive which is a straightforward procedure. I fitted a 2TB Seagate Pipeline HD ST2000VM003 over a year ago and have been very pleased with it.

What software version was the box using before you updated? How did you update? What is the new software version?

take a look at Humax’s own info:
https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/Direct/Why
towards the bottom, Note all new boxes come with a 2 year warranty, no mention of having to register
But surely that is for units purchased from Humax Direct not other retailers?

Quote:Here is the link to the list of channels and frequencies.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannington_transmitting_station
Ch32 is definitely there… as I’ve said, my TV tuner picks it up fine.
So what is carried on Channel 32? DigitalUK doesn’t list it either see Link to DigitalUK. care to share the first part of your post code with us?

but the fact that the TV receives the signal without problem suggests the cabling is OK.
Experience suggests that is not correct. For some reason I don’t pretend to understand the Humax boxes are more sensitive to cabling problems than other makes and there is plenty of empirical evidence to support the claim.

The puzzling thing is that it worked fine until recently, which is what is making me think it may be a fault on the box.
Have you carefully inspected the aerial cabling looking for badly made joints, kinks or evidence of water ingress. You are assuming that the problem is the box but I think you first need to rule out other possibilities.

So contrary to what I thought, and have read elsewhere, it does not start from scratch, merely updates what is already there. Poking around more of the forums I found one comment that intimates that on the latest software the unit saves the EPG to hard disk on switch off and restores it on switch on.
I am surprised you only found one comment about this. If you look at the firmware release notes in the Wiki on this Forum you will note that storing of the EPG to disk was added at version 1.00.23 Link to Software release notes I think it was done because the performance of the box (eg response to remote) was not very good whilst it was populating the EPG from scratch.

Whilst there is no warning of schedule being wiped, it is a consequence of a channel rescan which does have a warning i.e. a pop up on boot of unit.
Yes but it is not much use when you several hundred miles away from the box and it auto retunes when coming out of standby. Because I was aware of the 1st October retune I had installed the custom firmware remote scheduling package and was able to restore the schedule. Barry do you know why Humax are so reluctant to modify the software so that the schedule to be patched up after the retune rather than deleted? To my mind this is the major failing of the Humax software across quite a few different models.

I replaced the original 320 GB, 32 MB disk with a new WD AV-GP 1TB 64MB SATA 6Gb/s IntelliPower Hard Drive.
What is the power consumption of that drive compared to the original? I don’t recollect anybody fitting that particular drive to a 9300 before although people have fitted 1TB drives. Depending on what you record, you may well not be able to use the full capacity because of the limit on the number of recordings of 512.
