The reason I want to connect the earthnet cable to the other box

is I can use catchup tv.

As everybody is telling you the easiest way to do this in your situation is with a network switch. An alternative would be to get a Homeplug with two network ports but this is likely to cost more money and perform less well. Perhaps you can explain why you are reluctant to use a network switch?

The FVP-4000T has already been reported as not always saving from just 1 transmitter on the prime logical channel numbers when auto-tuning is used. Its stored channels are not always even from the same region.

In my experience this is also true of other Humax HD boxes. There is something odd about the latest version of the automatic tuning; sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes it makes a horrible mess; I haven’t been able to identify a patten. As you say the only safe way is to check what has been stored after an auto tune.

I guess I just have to leave it at that :-(

At the very least reformat the drive from the HDD Control menu item in the Record menu.

Is the DTR for £67 with a years Humax warranty not a real bargain?

Probably not; there are an awful lot of reports of hardware problems with the DTR1000; I would suggest a DTR2000 or DTR2100.

Can anyone help – all of our recordings have disappeared and no idea if we can retrieve them.

It is a well known problem. They can be retrieved by opening the Humax, connecting the hard drive to a PC (perhaps using a USB to SATA/IDE adapter) and then using humaxrw in recovery mode (“-r” command line paramter). You can download humaxrw from Link to MyHumax Blog

Whether you can replace the recordings will be possible on a 9200 but probably not possible on a 9150/9300.

Please ask questions if you require more help.

That has raised a memory from the digitalspy forum where we corresponded. Wasn’t there some problem that humaxrw did not work on 9300? Or was it fixed?

There is an unresolved problem (because I believe nobody bothered to supply the program author with the data to resolve the problem) in putting recordings back on to a 9300. As far as I know downloading from a 9300 works fine.

I’m moving from a Humax 9300 to the 4000T. Is there any easy way to copy existing recordings from the 9300 to the 4000 please. If so, would appreciate any guidance how to do this.

I think the only way to get files off the 9300 is to open the 9300 and connect the hard drive to a PC and use humaxrw to copy them to the PC. You only need the .ts file and I would expect them to be playable on the 4000T.

Wouldn’t that be a suitable drive for our Humax Recorders too ?

The requirements for a surveillance drive are subtly different to a PVR drive. Western Digital do supply drives optimised for PVR usage and they have been used by a fair number of people particularly in the Humax satellite boxes. Personally I have a mild preference for the Seagate drives but regard the appropriate Western Digital drives as good alternative.

Any suggesttions as to the cause/solutions please? (I have re-tuned)

Did you do an automatic retune? If so try a manual retune using the Biggles instructions at Link to manual tuning FAQ

    Any thoughts?

It is an unusual problem. I think you can rule out the different loader versions. I would speculate that the most likely explanation was damage to the aerial socket on the 9300 or its connection to the tuners. 1.00.26 has been released OTA and if there was a tuning problem there would have been lots of reports at the time.

Is there any point in my trying to copy my SD and HD recordings to the new machine so I can watch them there?

    If I understand correctly:

SD recordings – you can do anything with them

Correct providing they have had the encryption removed eg by copying to an attached USB drive.

HD recordings – can be copied to a replacement disk in the same unit. Cannot be copied to the disk in a different unit.

They can be copied but the encryption is specific to a particular box and so they can only be played on the box that made them.

Can I copy both SD and HD recordings to an external disk and then load them into a new, replacement Humax FVP-4000, and play them successfully?

Yes I would expect so. The encryption chip is on the motherboard in other Humax HD boxes.

Martin, is that the correct quote in your reply?

No its rubbish. I misread the question. I thought he was talking about changing the hard drive. There is as far as I know no way of playing encrypted HD content on anything other than the box that recorded it.

When a recording is being played back does the video go out through the RF out. I’d like to use this ability to send a recording to a TV in another room.

I don’t think so; you would need a separate RF modulator to do this.

I thought the limit was 25 schedules because thats what it was on my old Humax.

The limit on the 9200 was 25 when initially released but was increased to 50 at version PGXTF 1.00.10. The limit on all the more recent Humax HD devices is much larger than 25; I don’t recollect a precise figure but equally I don’t recollect anybody complaining that they have hit a limit. We sometimes have more than 50 recordings on an HDR-FOX T2 in the schedule without problems and I would be pretty confident that if there is a limit it is greater than a 100.
