Snap Martin re: posts – we are both on the same page. My link is for a switch with Gigabit ports though – I always prefer the redundancy. :-)

I use Gigabit Ethernet where it will actually help (in my case moving large files around my internal network) but why pay more in this specific application where it will not make one jot of difference?

They are called network splitters on Amazon, one wired feed from the power line adaptor into the splitter and two out.

Do you mean something like this Link to Amazon? If so that simply will NOT work for what you are trying to do. You need a network switch such as Link to a suitable network switch on Amazon. To convince yourself plug the Humax into the port on the splitter used by the Now TV box. You should find it now works and if you plug the Now TV box into the other port it will not work.

All I can say as posted by Barry, that all units that Humax have looked at with the issue had recovered when examined.

I am sure that this “recovery after a long period without power” behaviour is giving a very strong clue as to the problem. Unfortunately I don’t have enough background in this sort of electronics to work out what is going on. I remain sceptical that it can be corrected by a software change which to me sounds more like Humax playing for time.

Okay, folks; I assume one of you good people on the Humax end of things reset something or pressed a button

There is nobody here (as far as I know) from the “Humax end of things” so that isn’t the explanation.

We will be watching a programme. Then a message flashes up on screen saying that there is no signal being received on this channel. It does this for various amounts of time. We quite often go to tv and watch there. Come back in 10 mins or so and the signal is back.

We had thought of re-tuning the machine. What makes it more curious is that:

When the signal is lost the remote freezes as well and we are not able to change channel.

The box also seems to freeze and it isn’t possible to move up and down channels from the box.

It is not recording or recording only partial programmes as it looks as if the signal is being lost.

It is an unusual problem. The first thing to try would be to try a reset to default settings (which will also force a retune). If that doesn’t fix the problem then I would suggest installing the custom firmware and looking at the health of the hard drive using the Diagnostics>Hard drive function see Link to custom firmware

After a few days’ good behaviour, the problem is back again, which shows I suppose it’s not a terminal one.

I would say that there is a very good chance that formatting the drive will fix the problem. This will of course delete your recordings unless you download them first.

I have been looking at sources for the humaxrw software in case the problem returns for good, but without success.

You can download it from this site; see https://myhumax.org/blog/?file_id=44

My 9300T will no longer record a scheduled or current programme, although the temporary Time Shift function still works, as do the other functions I use. The hard drive contains many historical programmes which I can still watch and want, above all, to keep.

Humax offer no practical help for this model but suggested I try reformatting the disk which would, of course delete the stored programmes.

The first thing to try would be a reset to default settings which will clear the schedule of future recordings but leave the existing recordings in place. If that fails then the only other thing to do would be a format. If you really want to preserve the programs then it can be done by connecting the hard drive to a PC (typically using a SATA to USB adapter) and using the humaxrw software to copy the programs to the PC where they can be played with something like VLC.

Only one thing left to try is hard wiring the network through my powerline rather than wifi. BUT if that works I will need a new 2 port Powerline (one for Xbox and now one for Humax) Who’s going to pay the £40 for that, eah???? We shall see how this goes.

Why would you need a new Powerline? Just get a cheap 5 port switch to supply both devices from the existing Powerline; cost about £5.

Pen-drive suggestion not especially helpful as I have 2 x 500 Gb of programmes on hard discs.

I think the intention of the Pen-drive suggestion was so that you could demonstrate to yourself that the functionality works and then find a solution to why your hard drives are not recognised.

Good. Were the recordings from the 9150 visible or did you have to format the drive?

Start > all programmes> accessories> right click command prompt and left click run as administrator. Brings up screen ‘do you want to allow this programme to make changes, left click yes.

From the resulting command prompt window I tried what we’ve discussed above.

For absolute clarity I’ve done it again from the start and got exactly the same result.

Fair enough. It is a long time since I have done this and I am out of ideas. Maybe if you wait someone else will be along who has done it more recently. It still sounds like a permissions issue to me.

For the sake of clarity; did you run as Administrator using the procedure I specified? Being a user with Administrative rights is not enough.

Having got into the right directory, the command humaxrw 1: l gives the response ‘partition table: permission denied’. Couldn’t see a way to overcome this in the readme file, any ideas?

Did you run humaxrw as Administrator? Did you try numbers other than 1:? What version of Windows are you using?

Have got the SATA to USB cable, connected it up, I get the usual ‘double bleep’ USB connection noise, but it doesn’t seem to be able to see the drive?

HumaxRW won’t load at all – it just opens a command prompt window then closes straight away, literally under 1second.

I would guess you are double clicking on it which will not work. If you are running a recent version of Windows then you need to start a “Command prompt” with Administrative privileges. Start>All Programs>Accessories then instead of left clicking on Command Prompt, right click and select “Run as Administrator”. Once you have a command prompt cd to the directory where you have placed humaxrw.exe and type

    humaxrw 1: -l

Note that the -l is a lower case “L”. if that doesn’t work then replace the 1: with 2:, 3;; etc until you get a response. Try reading the readme.txt file that comes with humaxrw.
