I converted two laptops and a desktop from 7 to 10. Absolutely no issues driver wise. In fact a 17″ MSI intel core I7 I never got the HD webcam working in HD now works fine.

I have updated about a dozen computers from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Mostly they have gone without issue however I had significant issues with a Samsung RF510 laptop. The Windows 10 installation would abort with an obscure and unhelpful generic error code. After a lot of googling (and trying a few unlikely sounding fixes that unsurprisingly didn’t work) I discovered that the issue was an incompatibility with the Broadcom mini PCI Wifi card. Changing that for a card with an Atheros chipset fixed that problem. I then found the hard drive performance had dropped dramatically (it is an SSD) because the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver wasn’t compatible. The latest version of the driver doesn’t support the chipset in the laptop and I had to experiment to find a version that supported the chipset and would run with Windows 10. I did find a suitable version and now everything is working under Windows 10 to my satisfaction including my software development environment and various virtual machines (using VirtualBox). So in summary, yes it is usually straightforward but sometimes requires a fair bit of effort and in some cases will just not be possible.

JOhnh77: With luck it may not be a problem in this situation. I met it with PCs where if for instance you are copying a large file on then it becomes apparrent as the time to write the new file is increased if the new file has to be written in seperate chunks all over the disk instead of sequentially.

You are thinking of the old FAT based file systems such as FAT32. The Linux Ext3 file system used on the modern Humax boxes has a different design and fragmentation is nothing like as much as a problem.

Tonight it looks like the hard drive has formatted and I’ve lost all my recordings. There was 17% used now it shows “less than 1%” All my planned recordings are still showing and one show is being recorded now but it’s not showing in the most recent or still to watch.

Has anybody also got this problem?

Quite a lot of people. Take a deep breath and start reading at Link to one of many threads on missing hard drives

Is there a way to get all my recording back or are they gone?

The consensus view is that it is not (in most cases) a hard drive problem. A number of the boxes seem to recover. Currently best advice seems to be unpair the Freesat App, remove any internet connection from the box and leave it with no mains power for a few days.

I found a similar post where it was posted that custom firmware 2.12 has a fix disc facility on it. I have been searching for this to download to a usb to upload to our box but the link that was on the forum is no longer available. The latest I can find is 1.02.32.

Have you read the FAQ item on this Forum about fixing these problems (Link to My Humax FAQ on fixing hard drive problems)? Are any of the links in the FAQ in correct? You are looking for custom firmware HDR_FOX_T2_1.03.12_mod_3.10.zip ie 3.10 is the latest version of the custom firmware and works alongside Humax standard version 1.03.12. Please ask questions if anything is not clear.

if you cant receive correct transmitter after manual installation press default then go straight into manual install with correct channel number

Why do a default? A better idea is to following the manual tuning FAQ by Biggles see Link to manual tuning FAQ,

But would wear on the hard disk interfere with normal viewing..?..

It could do because the box is continually recording the live stream to give the ability to pause or rewind.

The HDR-1800T does not go into deep stand-by if the next recording’s start is scheduled within the next 40 minutes.

    Thanks; I didn’t know that.

Hi, trying to solve this problem for my Dad – he can’t record while the machine is on standby. I have checked the power save options in the setting menus and they are all set to off. It is running UKTFAC 1.01.13 so I think it has received the necessary update but I’m not sure.

1.01.16 is the latest available from Link to Humax support but 101.13 should be alright. The power saving options should not matter as the box will should come out of standby to make the recording. What exactly is happening when a recordings fails (is there a failed recording symbol in the relevant folder; if so what does it say)? Can you try an experiment by setting a recording half an hour in the future and then putting the box into standby and observing; 15 minutes before the schedule time the box should wake up (you can tell by touching the case and feeling the slight vibration from the hard drive); does this happen?

This is the external hard drive, though I don’t know the model of drive itself which is hidden inside

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-Drive/dp/B00UNA1ICQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470286709&sr=8-1&keywords=3+tb+hard+drive

    I formatted it as 3TB, EXT3. That didn’t work

Then tried 1TB Ext3, that isn’t recognised by the Humax either :(

I used mini tool partition wizard free to do the formatting.

    https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

What partition style is it using? Minitool Partition Wozard doesn’t make it very clear but if it is Master Boot Record MBR (which it needs to be) then there will be an option to convert to GPT.

Hope someone can help. I upgraded my wi fi connection to a wired connection the other day. Humax settings Network Connection under Settings still shows a Wi Fi conn. No associated problem, just a niggle

Which Humax model do you have?

Your icecrypt pvr no doubt uses Linux, file deletion on Linux actually deletes the data.

What makes you think that? As far as I am aware deleting on an EXT2/3 file system leaves the data in place but deletes the links to the data. There are tools like extundelete to attempt to recover deleted files. The delete is slow because “The ext3 filesystem makes use of an indirect block mapping scheme, which has to keep track of all block mappings”. Humax work around the problem by doing deletion in a separate thread so the user can continue to use the PVR whilst the deletion completes.
