Or might it be easier just to leave it on all the time, it can’t be using that much electricity!
Easier yes but in my opinion you get better more reliable operation by putting it into standby overnight however not everybody agrees with that view.

Finally, can someone explain the difference between “switching off” and “standby”. Is it as simple that the latter is just the consequence of the former, or is there more to it?
Standby is the state reached by pressing the button on the remote and reduces the boxes power consumption but leaves it capable of making a recording when required. Switching off usually means completely removing the electrical power so the box can do nothing and is occasionally required to recover from some fault conditions.

ParticipantTry reading this thread https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/restoring-recordings-and-list-to-humax-pvr-9200t which talks about the same problem and the author had problems with a smallish percentage of the recovered .ts files.

Is there a tool to recreate good .Hre files ?
You are looking for ts2hrw.exe which comes bundled with humaxrw and is described in the README file that is also part of the bundle.

Is the Humax 1000 connected to the internet when it is on standby? I have a device on the network, named Hon Hai Precision which I do not recognise but suspect is the Humax – can anyone confirm this?
Hon Hai Precision is more commonly known as Foxconn; does that ring any bells?

At the end of the day it was perhaps you that provoked the ‘alleged sarcastic remark’ by claiming the boot process is long winded.
Maybe he has power saving in standby on?

But can I go back and go back to original settings?.
What exactly do you want to do?

Even leaving mine on 24 hrs day it sometimes defaults – usually from 720 to 576 resolution and a different frame size.
The usual complaint is that the schedule for future recordings is lost; is that being preserved for you?
Everything else seems to function okay although it is getting a bit long in the tooth now i.e not HD etc Maybe time to consider a replacement.
Could be. The only work around that I have heard of is to leave it on 24 hours a day. It is an odd problem because it doesn’t affect the 9200T which has very similar software which makes me think it is most likely a hardware issue.

I have a 4000T only bought 1 month ago. now it’s lost it’s wifi connection. tried hard wiring it and it still won’t connect to the internet. Is there some button that I havn’t pressed or should I take it back to the shop
At the risk of stating the obvious; have you tried turning if off at the mains and leaving it without power for 30 seconds and then turning it back on?

I must have a main board fault.
Yes that is my feeling; the reset on coming out of standby problem affects a lot of people.

Do the sysyem files on the hard drive only cover the recordings?
The data on the hard drive is the recordings, the time shift buffer and the cached version of the EPG.

I am not convinced that it is a low signal. I checked the signal strength and quality of each MUX with the Humax and the lowest was 93/100 and the average was 98/100. It only happens on particular channels.
In my experience those signal strengths are too high. I would suggest if the problem returns then you try an attenuator in the aerial feed and aim for a signal strength of around 80%. Anything over about 45% should work well and at one time we had a signal strength of around 30% for several months with few problems.

I have been experimenting with my 9300T in an attempt to solve the niggling issues – (reset on standby, odd black screen for a few seconds I have reloaded the latest firmware a couple of times and it seems to work okay for a day or so then problems resurface so i am wondering if I have a failing hard drive.
The software is not on the hard drive it is in flash RAM.

ParticipantWow; if they have fixed all those problems then that should reduce the level of complaint significantly.
