Itv signal the switch from one programme to the next in the middle of the ads. The broadcaster would have to transmit two versions of the programme otherwise there would be a blank period in every ad break.

I think what is being suggested is a special service for PVR users (financed by subscription) where an additional signal is sent to flag the start and end of advertisement breaks and the PVR would not record those segments. I think it is theoretically possible but so fraught with problems that I can’t see it happening.

Sorry alanf, this is a friendly forum, Martin is a well respected member but in this case could have chosen more friendly words.

I was simply trying to refute the point that the change of hard drive would mean that the motherboard has to be redesigned which is still how I interpret the original comment. I know nothing about these models and happily accept that the motherboard has been redesigned to make the unit more compact BUT that is not what was said initially.

So the EPG is actually quite fluid and is kept constantly up to date. So a pragramme originally planned due to start at say 5pm might be updated to start at say 4.59pm or 5.01pm?

    Correct.

Thanks, so it is an alphanumeric sequence that is read and translated by the box?

It isn’t necessarily alpha numeric; it is usually more efficient to use binary data that is interpreted by the box.

I don’t think I implied that the motherboard redesign was simply to accompany a change of HD form factor; a change of mounting hardware would achieve this.

Really; then your choice of language was unfortunate. You said:

“I’m guessing that this means the latter’s 3.5in HD has now been replaced by a 2.5in. This must mean that the motherboard has been completely redesigned” What else did “This” refer to?

What form does the signal take from the broadcaster to the box that the broadcast is about to start? Is it a sound frequency or visual, signal for example?

It is part of the same digital metadata that provides the EPG.

I’m guessing that this means the latter’s 3.5in HD has now been replaced by a 2.5in. This must mean that the motherboard has been completely redesigned, so hopefully the components responsible for the failure of the HD functionality have been isolated and designed out!

Why would a change of hard drive size require a motherboard redesign?

I have a missing program list on pvr9300t.

I know humaxrw will fix this index with pvr9200t , but am unsure what I can expect from humaxrw 1.15 running on a pvr9300t

q1 will I only be able to copy ts files to pc, or can I re populate the pvr9300t program list index?

I would be confident you will be able to copy to the PC. There is no known way of repopulating the program index other than formatting the disk.

will humaxrw 1.15 support all the same read write features it enjoys on the pvr9200t model?

I have never owned a 9300T so can’t give definitive answers. Some people have claimed success in restoring programs to 9300T, some have claimed problems. You might want to read this thread https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/9300-t-drive-corrupted-recordings-invisible (but there are several others if you search the forum).

I have lost 5 years of programs so any help much appreciated

I hope you can recover them.

While I was out today my Son thought he would take the hdmi cable out to check something on his computer. It has now been returned but I can’t get the Freesat box to work. Just get no signal message on tv. Tried changing the source on the tv between ext1 and ext2 but nothing is working.

It might help if you tell us the make and model of the TV.

Someone above talked about which channels I’d been tuned to. I tried to work out which – it’s CH23 for BBC4. But when I went into signal strength, I got a reading of 99-100 for CH23 on Tuner 1

That could well be contributing to your problems; it sounds to me as though the signal strength could be too high. The fix is to install an attenuator in the aerial cabling (or if you have an amplifier turn down the gain or remove it).

You make a good point Martin. I just went to one of my new recordings on the 5000T and found it had the very same problems regarding signal pixellation on recordings that I had with my Fox T2 and which failed completely a couple of weeks ago.

In what way did the HDR-FOX T2 fail completely?

I hope this doesn’t mean that I’ve trashed one of the tuners on the 5000T

I don’t recollect anybody ever reporting tuner damage due to overloading (but lots of people reporting recordings breaking up or failing which are usually resolved when the signal strength is reduced).

Have been working with the 5000T for a few days now. I think I have found an unintended bug. I record a programme that’s broadcast at 7pm on Beeb4 daily. because I’ve switched padding on (tested recordings without and they still miss the first 60 secs or so)

I am surprised that recordings made without padding are missing the first 60 seconds; my advice would be to investigate this issue first before resorting to padding. What channels are these recordings from? Are you confident that the box is tuned to receive only from a single transmitter?

when switched back on all the recorded programmes had gone

The HDD Control shows 60% used so it knows the programmes are there is there a way to get them back or would I need to use Humaxrw and if so any tips for use in my case

As far as I know the only reliable way to get the programs back will be to use humaxrw in recovery mode. Try reading this thread https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/9300-t-drive-corrupted-recordings-invisible and then come back and ask questions.

I wonder how many other houses are still using amplifiers from the analog days and suffering from signal distortion when the signal is already very strong ?

Thanks for posting some actual measurements. Lots of people come here (and other Humax forums) puzzled as to why they have picture breakup when the signal strength is reported by the Humax as a 100%. In almost all cases turning down amplification or fitting an attenuator resolves the problem.

Note to Moderators: could we have a FAQ on signal strength please.

I still cant get my head round why a kink, bad connection, or water in the cable would just lose channel 30 DVB T2 so specific to that frequency when a 100+ other Tv channels come through very well.

It can cause a notch filter effect. This link http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/kinked_cable.htm describes the problem and cites a specific frequency being wiped out as a possibility.

Those channels were working for months and its the group that moved from channel 54 to 30 so something is going on

Im more inclined to think its a transmission problem or an aerial issue.

If it was a transmission problem I would have expected more reports; it could be an aerial problem I agree.

I think the Humax over rates the signal strength.

It is an arbitrary rating but as we get more reports of people with problems with high signal strengths than low signal strengths I would need to be convinced that it is “over rating”.

Until I eliminate every possibility I will not know.

    Sounds sensible.
