I retuned on Saturday and since then all channels were pixellating. I spoke with Freeview yesterday and we went through a manual retune to Heathfield and I can now only get decent reception on the HD Channels.

What is the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax on an HD channel and a channel with poor reception?

My remote control stopped working after about a week. I replaced the two AAA batteries, and it started working again, but only for about another couple of weeks. I bought a replacement remote control, but the same thing has started to happen. I can’t believe a remote control chews through batteries this quickly ! Is there a known problem ? How can I tell whether it is the remote control or the unit itself ? Any ideas ?

Is this a new Humax? If so talk to Humax support. The batteries (assuming decent quality) should last for a long time.

trying each loader.. but still getting the issues.

Does anyone think installing an earlier old software version might help? or would that just make it worse or no difference?

    im so fed up :(

Sorry that didn’t help but in my first post in this thread I did say the symptoms you were reporting suggested a hardware failure. In my view it is time for you to give up.

Ah yes Ive just checked and I have 1.01.20 dated 8th Jan.

I doubt it was the 8th January; I suspect you are looking at the software release date which will be well before the phased rollout of the software update was started.

I decided to put in a 2.5inch 5400rpm HDD I’d got laying around just to try it. Formatted and re-tuned again.

What make and model was the drive you removed?

However, if the designers neglected to provide a means of converting in the other direction, to enable recording of analogue sources for people wishing, for example, to transfer their VHS tape library to their new PVR as you would expect, then I am certainly snookered.

The problem is that the digital encoding is a more compute intensive process than the decoding so to provide the capability to encode analogue sources would significantly increase the cost of the box for functionality that not many people would use.

Yes I think it might have been BBC – the last one was BBC4 and others might have been BBC2.

I suggest you post here next time it happens with the details.

Just in the past few weeks my humax has stopped recording the ends of programmes, it cuts out about 3 – 5 minutes early. Incredibly annoying.

Tell us which programmes are being truncated? The BBC have been having problems with a new playout system which was giving the sort of problem you describe but it does gradually appear to be improving although not perfect yet.

Humax is on my T drive. I have a folder called Humax and humaxrw.exe is in that folder. My Humax HD drive is showing as disk 6 in computer management. I've attached a file of the message i get from Power shell when i type in the commands.

I think you need to launch Powershell with administrative privileges. What version of Windows are you using? Also where you have type 1 (numeric 1) it should be l (Lower case L).

I cant understand when there are spaces in between characters.

Im typing this but getting nowhere

    cd humax

I take it you have a directory called humax and within that directory is the humaxrw.exe file?

    I get

    j:humax

    I type

    .humaxrw 1-r

    I think that should be

    .humaxrw 1: -r -l

(I have used double spaces to try and make it clearer)

Thanks Martin could you give me some more information on using the command line please. I presume that’s in dos?

Try reading this thread; particularly the last post https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/recording-list-blank-help

I have taken my drive out of Humax to try and download recorded programmes using HumaxRW Front-End but the only programmes that are listed are ones that I recorded after the set went haywire after the re tune.

As I said in post #2 you need to use recovery mode in your situation. As far as I can see the version of the Front-End that I have does not support recovery mode so you need to use humaxrw from the command line and include the -r argument.

Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this? and why it’s suddenly started happening every day?

The fact that it worked for a long time and got worse suggests a component gradually deteriorating so the following suggestion may not help. Some people have found that changing the loader firmware (rather than the main firmware) can help with HDMI handshake problems. You can download the full set of loaders from:

    http://hpkg.tv/rpc/cfwget.html?file=loader.a730.hdf

    http://hpkg.tv/rpc/cfwget.html?file=loader.a731.hdf

    http://hpkg.tv/rpc/cfwget.html?file=loader.a733.hdf

    http://hpkg.tv/rpc/cfwget.html?file=loader.a734.hdf

One by one rename the file to HDR_FOX_T2_upgrade.hdf copy to a USB memory stick, put the Humax into standby, wait until the hard drive stops spinning, plug in the USB memory stick and it will update the loader fairly quickly (much faster than a standard firmware update). Then remove the Memory stick and try restarting the Humax and see if things are any better.
