Thanks for the tip. The fact every other TV in the house can receive all channels on COM7 and COM8 though, means this doesn’t make any sense, and points to a possible firmware/tuner problem with the 5000T.
Just to rule out any problem at your end, could you temporarily move the FVP-5000T to use the feed for one of the TVs that does receive COM7 and COM8 and see if they are still missing when retuned. Tuner sensitivity is a tricky issue; make them too sensitive and people who live close to the transmitters have problems with tuner overloading.

I eventually found a setting on the TV ‘HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour’ which was turned on for all three HDMI ports: with nothing to lose, I tried setting each one off (1 by one with a TV re-boot in between) and, suddenly, I had sound.
Thanks, that is an interesting observation. I wonder if that could also be implicated in the sound blip problem that I and a number of other HDR-FOX T2 users have found when connected to recent LG TVs; I will experiment.

Now cannot get access to recorded programmes at all, button on remote just won’t take me there. Having looked at other messages in this forum, I tried to factory reset. It, in due course, returns to a “do you want to format a hard disk drive” Y/N screen (I answer no, as I presume recordings will be lost, but if that is the easiest solution, I’m happy)
If you don’t mind losing the recordings then that would be the obvious thing to try. It may be the file system has become corrupt which might be fixable or it might be that the hard drive is approaching end of life.
Also the sound playback (and some vision) could get corrupted, I always assumed this was a symptom of using the fast forward through ads, but maybe just because some were relatively old recordings
There is a known issue with the 9300 (and 9150) that causes playback problems on certain programs.

My PVR is repeatedly loading, indicating its on Channel 4 and then showing on screen that I have a hard disk error. When I hit “OK” it repeats all of the above. I am unable to move it from this mode. I have turned it off and taken out all leads and restarted.
I think the only way you will get this working would involve taking the hard drive out and connecting it to a PC. If you have the inclination then I can provide further instructions. However I suspect there is a good chance the hard drive may require replacement. Someone over on Digital Spy posted about having a brand new drive for sale https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2300286/pensioned-off-9200#latest or you might take the opportunity to update to a more recent PVR that will preform better than the 9200T.

Tv is a jvc lt-50c750
I suspect this wasn’t actually manufactured by JVC. Ttry the codes for Technika or Seiki. Let us know if you find a code that works.

ParticipantBarry, what made this Forum stand out from other Humax Forums was your knowledge and contacts within Humax. You have also helped me on a number of occasions and I very grateful for that assistance. Best wishes for the future.

I used a battery tester (handheld one for aa batteries)with continuity tester, and touched the bottom two contacts of remote control battery compartment with batteries out untill tester beeped and my problem was solved
I think that is just a minor variation on the normal remote reset procedure of removing the batteries and holding down a key until the activity LED stops working.

Most ISP’s assign non routable IP address via DHCP, unless your public IP address is a static routable address there would be no way to do this. Even with a static external address you would need to route the packets to the internal address of your Humax.
You could use an ssh tunnel to a server with a public IP address. I use this a lot (in a non Humax context) for making connections at various locations where I have no control over the router but want people to be able to initiate connections from elsewhere.

Made me wonder just how many examples of this failure there may have been?
First one I can remember being reported here for an FVP model. Bricking Humax boxes of any model during updates is pretty rare; I can only recollect a handful over the last ten years.

I find it strange a later model doesnt have previous model features !
Upgrade to an FVP-5000T and you will find yet more missing features but offset by new capabilities.

1899t, Can i go straight to a Chosen Time, say 5min 25 seconds ..i recall i could on my old Humax 9300, by entering numbers on remote, to specify time i required ??
No. You can navigate along the time line with the left and right arrows (either side of the OK button).

1800t – Can i ‘Bookmark’ a program ??
No, the functionality was available on the HDR-FOX T2 but was removed as part of the dumbing down for the HDR-2000T/1800T.

I do think if Humax or this forum had a feature request section with voting, would save duplicate requests and help gauge how popular ideas were…….
I don’t think there is much point in having feature requests for a design that is several years old and unlikely to receive major updates. What might be interesting is a thread on what new or improved features people would like to see on new designs.
