I have a 4000T in the lounge and one in the bedroom.
I was wondering, in this day and age, if I can operate and watch either/both in either/both rooms, what with wifi, SMART etc.
You can watch content on one box from the other box using the built in DLNA capability which works OK for me. There are probably other possibilities but if you can explain what you want to do somebody who uses more of the functionality can explain how to do it.

Its a Virgin Media Hub3
OK lifted from the Internet are the instructions for reserving an IP address on a Virgin Media Hub3 as follows:
==========================================
First make sure the PVR is on.
The easiest way is to use DHCP reservation on the router.
Navigate to 192.168.0.1 in your web browser and log in.
If you are using a Hub 3 go to Advanced->DHCP.
Scroll down
Select the PVR from your list of connected devices.
Scroll down and you’ll see the Add reserved rule Box is now populated with the PVR MAC and IP address.
Click Add rule
You may be kicked out of the Hub interface at this point – but if you go back in and check you’ll see the PVR has now been added to the list of reserved devices.
From now on the PVR will always be assigned the same IP address.
============================================
Note down the IP address that has been reserved.
Now on the FVP press the Freeview button>Select the Settings tab and select “Configure LAN”.
The first item “Configure IP” should currently be set to DHCP; press right arrow and select Manual.
Check the following:
IP address should be whatever you wrote down previously
Netmask should be 255.255.255.0
Gateway should 192.168.0.1
you then change the DNS server values to:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Those IP addresses are for Open DNS which is what I use
Alternatively you could try Google DNS which is
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
When done click Apply and you are finished.
Check that you can use one of Players to demonstrate the Internet connectivity is working properly and then wait and see if your problem is resolved.
You can revert the change by going back into LAN settings on the PVR by changing “Configure IP” back to DHCP.
If Virgin send you a new hub, then you will need to redo the process, first setting the PVR back to DHCP and then reserving what will probably be a new IP address and then repeating the process on the PVR.
Please come back and ask any questions or point out errors in my instructions. Also give us an update on whether it helps after a week or so.

Anyway I’m back online but still having problems so I will try what you say about changing DNS servers, however I will need help in specifying a manual IP address.
OK it is pretty straightforward to set a manual IP address; start by telling us what make and model of router you are using?

Not sure about the 5000T, but the T2 requires the ‘sidecar’ files as well as the *.ts to have full transport control etc. The sidecar files can be rebuilt on the T2, but whether or not they are suitable for the 5000T, I’m not certain.
No you can’t use the sidecar files from an HDR-FOX T2 on an FVP-5000T.

Most of the recordings are sd. Can I move folders over to the usb or is it just the individual files in the folders I can move over
It is a while since I did it but I think you can move folders.
What would I do for the hd recordings?
The policies on this forum don’t allow discussion of the methods involved; pop over to the forum at hummy.tv to get a whole range of options.

I’ve recently updated my freeview recorder to a humax fvp 5000t and would like to take my recordings from my old humax hdr Fox t2. Is this possible and if so how would I do this
Are the recordings HD or SD? SD is easy, simply attach a USB drive to the HDR-FOX T2 and copy the recordings to the drive which will remove the encryption.

On my Win 7 Pro SMB 1.0 is not available in Windows Features. I looked in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesLanmanServerParameters
SMB 1 was not there to turn on or off which I believe means it is off.
I’ll dig out a Windows 7 box and see what it has available.
Also isn’t SMB 1.0 a Wanacry vunerability ?
There are certainly security issues associated with SMB1 which is why Microsoft are keen to kill it. However the problem is that the later versions of SMB are significantly larger which is an issue for things like PVRs with limited RAM and CPU capability. You have to evaluate the risk/reward on your particular network.

I’m not convinced you need SMB1 since my Win7 discovers all my devices, although I do not have a 4000/5000.
I can only say that without SMB1 my Windows 10 system won’t recognise the Humax FVP as device from which content can be decrypted..

3. Tried to ping Humax which worked! 1 ms ping time.
Good. So do you have SMB 1.0 enabled in Windows Features?

At present the PC still does not see the FVP-4000.
The first thing to do to diagnose the problem is to open a command window on the Windows 7 PC, look up the IP address the Humax is using and in the command window type:
ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the Humax. If you get no response the problem is with your network; if you get a response then we need to delve deeper.

now can we make the EPG jump forward one day at a time as on the T1010? I thought it might work in a similar manner, but no luck so far.
Whilst in the guide, hold down the right (or left arrow) and after a short delay a popup menu will appear allowing you to select which day you want to move to.

Unfortunately I have just bought a Humax FVP-5000T as a replacement, but the T1010 has some nice features missing on the later box – specifically the step forward through recorded adverts

The FVP will step forward through adverts see the FAQ https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/how-to-use-skip-function (so one extra key press compared to the earlier Humax boxes).

Last night the issue returned effecting UK HD broadcasts only except now, it’s more pronounced with the video freezing/pixilating and the audio blanking, appears to be classic indications of poor signal, indeed, this dialogue will periodically appear on the screen.
What compass directions and distances are the two transmitters you are receiving from? Now the symptoms sound more like some sort of co-channel interference.

When I go to programme guide there is no information of previous programmes on same day or previous days.
Some people have seen this problem resolved by changing the DNS servers specified in Setting> network settings to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 rather than just pointing at the router IP address (note you will need to specify a manual IP address; please ask if you need advice to do this). If you do try this experiment I would be grateful if you could report back if it helps.
