Has anyone successfully used either of these?
Yes I have used both of those. FTP worked first time (using Filezilla) with no configuration other than entering the IP address. Getting access to the Samba server working took more time. For me the crucial step (using Windows 10 Pro) was turning on SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support. I did make various other changes prior to that but I think that was the crucial step. FTP will only download encrypted content; the Samba server ( together with something described as the Media Renderer) allows SD content to be downloaded with the encryption removed.

When trying an HDMI connection, picture is very good, but only lasts for 10 seconds approx., then nothing!!
Have you experimented with different Resolutions? (Menu button, Settings>Preferences>Video and then select Resolution.)
Options are 576i – 576p – 720p – 1080i – 1080p

Yes done that.Got as far settings but can not get into installation because of the second notice
Very odd. I would disconnect the box and check the aerial socket very carefully for a thin strand of wire or anything else that could be causing a short circuit. Failing that perhaps a system flush file might resolve the problem but we need to know which Humax box you have?

My box is showing the terrestrial antenna is short circuited, I have gone to settings but when I try to get into installation to turn off the power to the antenna the same message comes up over the first it will not let me in, can anybody help please?
Firstly can you clarify if you have an HDR-FOX T2 or an HDR-2000T (or something else) as you have posted in both sections of the Forum? Have you tried my earlier suggestion of turning the box off and removing the aerial and then turning box back on and seeing if you can change the setting?

No when I pressed setting another notice of short circuit showed on top of the original one
OK, have you tried disconnecting the aerial? To be safe turn the power to the box off before doing it.

Hey my box is showing antenna short circuit I can not get into the settings to turn off the power to the antenna
Was the box recording when you tried to get into settings? If so they will be greyed out until the recording has finished.

Hi Martin, I don’t believe it but after a couple of days I’ve lost all the previous days programmes again. I’ve checked the settings and they are as I set them up from your previous post. I don’t understand why this could happen.
Sorry to hear that; I am afraid I have no other ideas.

Perhaps you could precis all the writings on this subject into a short sharp ‘how to’ for the layman?
Here is a link to a report that a Firestick will enable encrypted HD content from an HDR-FOX T2 to be played https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/vlc-able-to-decrypt-hd-files.8491/ NB I don’t own a Firestick and haven’t verified this myself.

Me! I have two FVP-4000Ts, and a HD FOX T2. The FOX T2 can play HD content from either 4000T over my wired network, as can my Samsung TV.
OK thanks, now is there somebody with an FVP-5000T and a HD-FOX T2 (or two FVP-5000T)?

Having problems with HD Channels, recently had unit after getting signal issues with Freesat1000S NOW after expense of changing boxes realise must be something more difficult for a technophobe to sort. We have a good aerial on a high pole so is there anyone who can explain simply how to fix the issue please
Start by telling us the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax please (Freeview button.Settings>Channel settings>Signal test)

It has always been my understanding that HD playback on another unit was not possible. However I see that the prior thread quoted here says that the successful user has custom firmware for an HD-FOX T2 with extra decrypt packages.
When I reported that finding over on hummy.tv, all the experts said that the custom firmware on the HD-FOX T2 would have no influence on whether HD recordings could be played via DLNA. Can someone with an HD-FOX T2 and an FVP box confirm whether they can play HD content from an FVP-4000T or an FVP-5000T on an HD-FOX T2 (with or without custom firmware).

So have you actually managed to watch HD on one FVP-unit from another or not ?
If not what possible reason have you decided to post my doubts re HD are not at least credible ?
No because I don’t have two FVP boxes. However on the 2nd Nov 2018 you said “As the boxes share the same software (the label on the motherboard of my early 5000T says it’s a 4000T. Seems pretty certain the 5000T can also do this.” Have you changed your position? It may well be that Luke is right and a pair of FVP-4000T can do this and pair of FVP-5000T can’t. Is there someone with a pair of FVP-500Ts that can tell us definitively whether it is possible?

Grayham. Sorry, I just assumed you were talking about the recorder.
Your understanding of HD stuff not playing on anything else is pretty much correct, unless it has first been decrypted
That isn’t right; there have been various reports over the last couple of years of people playing encrypted content on non Humax devices providing they have DTCP-IP capability.

Suspect this works only for SD recordings. A pair of HDR-FOX-T2’s can do this for all recordings.
Really? There was a previous thread about this and more than one person was claiming it was possible for SD and HD: see https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/using-2-fvp-5000ts

Many thanks for all that. I’ve done all that you said, now lets see if it keeps the programmes, I will update you in a couple of weeks.
Good; did you find it straightforward to do (except for the oddity you noted)?
Oh by the way it wouldn’t let me change DNS server values at first.
It would not let me change the first number from 1 to 2, however it allowed me to put 0’s so I changed them all to 0’s, went out and then went back and I was then able to enter the full values starting with 208 etc.
That is really odd; I haven’t seen the problem and I can’t explain it; well done for finding a creative solution.
