I would be gratetful if this could be checked out and a replacement link provided.

Yup I get a CRC error when trying to extract the .exe from the .zip. If you send me a Private Message with your email address I will email you a copy of humaxrw.

Given a PVR is constantly writing to the buffer I would expect this to affect the longevity of an SSD.

If you bother to do the arithmetic you will find a modern SSD will comfortably last five years in a PVR as I stated. I don’t advocate using an SSD because the benefits are minimal.

Has anyone done this? My HD is getting quite audible and the box is rather warm to the touch.

A good quality modern SSD should work in a PVR and have a lifetime in excess of five years. However the only advantage would be the elimination of hard drive noise. Conventional hard drives have more than adequate performance.

Is there an up to date list, so I can just do a manual tune for AJ and Dave on the specific channels (I mean the broadcats channels, not the television channels – ie 21 upwards) and not mess with anything else?

First look at http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/channels/channel_listings and identify the Mux that contains the service you want (the SD version of Al Jazeera Eng is on ARQB). Then go to http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/coveragechecker/main/index/dummy/NA/yes and enter your postcode and house number. That should bring up a list of transmitters in your area; identify the one that you are using and then look at the row that starts with “Now” and the columns for the multiplex you want. The number on the darker grey background is what you want.

On my FTP-5000T under recording options, the auto delete function is stuck at “off”. This seems to mean that accidentally deleted programmes are not recoverable. How do I switch it to “on”?

Turning it on will not make deleted programmes recoverable. What it does if turned on is automatically delete the oldest non-protected recording when the hard drive begins to fill up (very briefly mentioned on page 22 of the manual). As far as I know there is no way to recover accidentally deleted programmes.

Now Al Jazeera HD has been removed completely

Could you explain that please? According to Digital UK Aljazeera Eng HD is still being broadcast on LCN 108 on the COM 7 Mux and the main Crystal palace transmitter is broadcasting COM7. The SD version should be on LCN 235 on the ARQB Mux which is at a lower channel number and higher power so may be easier to receive.

I record BBC News at Six and when I attempt a playback I get ‘Pointless’ and this happens time and time again!

What is shown in the Schedule section of the Recordings menu for this reservation? Have you tried cancelling the reservation and then rescheduling it?

As it states this Fact in the user Manual .

I’m surprised that If Giverny read the user guide just how is he so confused ?

I think you are being a bit unfair; you need to read the user manual pretty closely and have a good memory to have that fact available.

If you are referring to the signal strength and quality, they are 95% and 100% respectively.

In my experience a signal strength of 95% may be too high for the Humax tuners. You might consider adding a variable attenuator to the aerial cabling and reducing the reported signal strength to say 80% and see if that helps.

After the last set of frequency changes a couple of months back, I’ve been getting lots of failed recordings on the HD channels (Beacon Hill transmitter, South Devon). I’m getting good signal strength, and excellent S/N ratio (62.8 dBuV and 36.25dB respectively).

Please could you quote the values as reported by the Humax when tuned to an HD channel?

I have a Humax FVP 4000T connected by ethernet connected via ethernet cable it shows on the tv after I’ve reset it that my networks ok yet it won’t connect to the internet can anyone tell me what’s wrong

Please can you tell us the following data about the Network connection: IP address, Netmask, Gateway, Primary DNS server?

I assume ypu realise that the HDR-FOX T2 will only decrypt recordings made on an HDR-FOX T2?

I should have been more explicit – it is an HD-FOX T2. I have read in another thread on this forum that others have managed to play HD from a 4/5000T on an HD-FOX T2. I have never understood how that would work by the way but always keen to experiment! I have understood from other threads that the encryption/decryption function is tied to the motherboard of the recording device (in my case FVP-5000T) but if others have succeeded it might be worth a shot!

I think the report you are referring to is from a single user. Interested to hear what you find but when the matter was discussed over at hummy.tv where the custom firmware experts are to be found, nobody believed that the custom firmware would play any part.

I have learned. I think, that 1) the encryption key is unique to each box, and 2) all recordings are encrypted but SD are decrypted by the “owning” box before copying/streaming (I can confirm that SD recordings are playable on my HD-FOX T2). The only way it would work – given my limited knowledge – is for the “client” DLNA HUMAX to be able to access the “source” server encryption key.

Access to the DLNA server for HD content is protected by DTCP-IP encryption but the HD-FOX T2 does support it. The unresolved question is whether the FVP-5000T allows access to HD content (it is believed that the FVP-4000T does).

But as I don’t know what the custom firmware plus decrypt add on modules does I am going step by step before I brick something.

    Sounds sensible to me.

What IP addresses do the FVP and the wireless connected Mac have?

FVP at 192.168.1.16; Mac at 192.168.1.11

Sorry I am out of ideas; I think you need to ask the question somewhere with specific Netgear EX3700 knowledge.

Good; are you able to download decrypted recordings?

I haven’t got that far yet. My objective, a step at a time, is to be able to watch recordings from FVP5000T on a FOX T2 with custom firmware and other modules that apparently enable decryption.

I assume ypu realise that the HDR-FOX T2 will only decrypt recordings made on an HDR-FOX T2?

Router is Draytek 2860. FVP is connected to a NetGear 2700 as wireless access point connected to LAN port 4. Mac is connected to 5G Draytek wireless. LAN port 5 is connected to my wired Mac with port mirroring 4 to5 so that I can monitor FVP5000T traffic with wireshark.

Nothing obviously wrong there. What IP addresses do the FVP and the wireless connected Mac have?

Thanks to all for help. I have concluded it is a networking problem internally. If both HUMAX and my Mac are connected to the same access point all works fine – Samba and FTP.

Good; are you able to download decrypted recordings?

I think I need to understand why my router internal wireless won’t connect through to an external wireless access point on one on its ethernet ports. Unless anyone has a clue for me!

You would need to describe the topology of the network and what make and model the wireless access point is.

Both Start Padding Time and End Padding Time are set to Auto. Can this have anything to do with it?

No they won’t be involved. Not a setting I have used previously but just tried and I can switch it on.
