Will humaxrw work even if windows doesnt see my hard disk drive ?

If Windows is offering to initialise the disk (do NOT accept the request) then yes humaxrw will work fine.

also have you heard of something called Humax Media controller ?

Yes it was for the 9200T and connected via the USB port. As the 9300T doesn’t have a functioning USB port it wouldn’t help you.

Is there any way in windows of seeing the HDD and accessing the files ? or any other way of getting the progammes off

The only way I know of is to use humaxrw. See for instance this thread https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/where-to-download-humaxrw-for-windows

Just SD content and the other TV is not a smart TV.

One way to do it would be to enable the DLNA server on the FVP-5000T and use something connected to the TV to give a DLNA client; the something could be a secondhand HD-FOX T2 (or HDR-FOX T2), a Raspberry Pi, a small PC or a media player like a Roku with a DLNA capability. I am sure other people will have further suggestions.

If so is there any way to connect a FVP-5000T to a tv in another room?

Is it HD or SD content that you want to play? Is the TV a smart TV?

Ok, the time has come for me to install a bigger drive, which I understand should be a straight swap. I.e remove the old drive, replace the new one, and the rest should take care of itself! If that isn’t the right way to approach it- let me know!

I suggest you tell us which model of Youview box you have?

The T2 is on FHTCP 1.03.12, update 07/02/2014 Nicomm Version 9.3, loader Version a7.33

The TV Portal takes ages to load, hangs on with a grey letter box, been like that for over a couple of years.

Sorry for delay in replying, been away on holiday so couldn’t test on my box. Now back home and as I thought iPlayer works fine. First thing to check is that the Internet connection is OK, if it is then try a reset to default settings.

Whilst on the HDR_Fox T2, is there anyway of getting the Apps on the ‘TV Portal’ updated, or working ?

Which Humax firmware version are you using on the HDR-FOX T2? Last time I tried iPlayer was working with 1.03.12 (but not with early versions) but that will be a few months ago.

The Humax does start up and work as a setup box, the channels are showing.

    Is this correct:

    1. The disk has a Humax format. It can’t be seen by the Humax or Windows, so it’s fried.

Hard to be sure but that seems a plausible interpretation.

    2. i need a new disk, format it in windows, then install it in the Humax, and format it again on the Humax. What’s the max disk size for the pvr900t, please ?

You should be able to just put a different drive in the Humax and it will format it. I think in practical terms 300GB is a sensible limit but I have known people fit drives as large as 750GB. Be careful about the drive you choose; the 9200T is quite fussy about which drives will work (I tried a Western Digital drive and the box wouldn’t boot up reliably). The safest choice would be a Seagate drive designed for PVR usage. I doubt that you will find any brand new IDE drives and in my experience it is a bit of a lottery buying secondhand or reconditioned drives.

You might consider replacing the 9200T; a secondhand HDR-FOX T2, which is a much better PVR, can be picked up secondhand for less than £50 if you look around.

If Windows doesn’t see the disk as a drive, how can I format it, do I need a specific disk utility ? CrystalDiskInfo can’t see the humax disk either.

    Doesn’t sound good to me.

If the panel is showing 4 dashes, is it even trying to boot off the disk, or is stuck in a firmware loop ?

Try starting the Humax with no drive installed. It should boot up and function as a set top box and would demonstrate the problem is with the hard drive.

Yes, it’s a Windows 7 laptop, I’m using. Do the utilities work better on Linux ? I have a linux mint distro I can try, if so.

Do you get any error message from humaxcheck 2: ? Are you running the programs with Administrative privileges? I would say the Linux versions of the programs run equally well; note that the syntax for the drive is different in the Linux versions.

It should be on port 2, as ‘Devices Properties’ tells me it’s attached to device id 2.

any thoughts on what do I try next ?

Everything you have tried sounds OK to me. You mentioned Windows 7 in a previous post; is that the version of Windows that you are using?

Are you sure your PVR isn’t a 8000T? The later PVR-800Ts came with an 80GB IDE drive.

Good spot Luke. The Seagate documents on the ST3160022ACE date from 2003/2004 which would fit with an 8000T.

I’ve got the 4 dashes on the left hand side of the PV9000t. Looked up the FAQ, downloaded, humaxrw front-end and the humaxrw command line tools for windows 7.

I am not very familiar with the humaxrw front end; what parameters are you inputting to it?

Right, just got 39% of the way through the update and it suddenly had a patch of multi-coloured bleugh and went black. I’m guessing this is ditch again and buy another territory unless anyone can suggest anything else.

This is a fairly common problem on the DTR-T1010 and can probably be fixed by changing electronic components. If that is not a solution for you then yes time to buy something else. Don’t buy another DTR-1010, the later Youview boxes seem to be more reliable.

I think I’m just going to stick with the T2 for now. The 5000T can go back to JL. Not fit for purpose IMHO.

In my experience the FVP-5000T isn’t quite as slow as you are reporting but it certainly isn’t rapid. What irritates me more is the lack of consistency in the way the UI behaves. However for me (a long term HDR-FOX T2 user), the killer advantages of the FVP-5000T are that the sub-titles work properly and an irritating sound blip issue with an HDR-FOX T2 connected to a modern LG smart TV doesn’t occur with an FVP-5000T.
